What to wear when it’s 100 degrees and you’re bloated? This Oak dress. Without a belt this time…
Remember when I first wore it here and mentioned that I’d been thinking about ordering the gray version as well? I still haven’t. And although every time I put the dress on (I wear it ALL THE TIME) I think I’d like to have the gray version, I remind myself that I’d rather use that money for something else.
I actually do have a gray dress on my “things I need” list, but I want one that’s fitted, so I can layer it during fall/winter. The oak dress isn’t easily layered; it’s more a wear as-is dress, so it wouldn’t suit my needs. Sure, I’d wear it if I had it, and I’d love to have it, but I’d rather have this James Perse cashmere/cotton dress instead – it’s much more practical for year-round wear.
So, yes, I am an advocate for buying multiples of things you love, but within reason, and only after some trial period. If I’d ordered the gray dress immediately after receiving the black one, I’d have less money in my budget for the James Perse dress (which I will order, but not now). And now that I’m working on minimizing my wardrobe, I am much more aware of what I choose to add and why. Whatever I add to my wardrobe must fill a specific need and I prefer things that I can wear for multiple seasons.

I love that dress, but I just can’t go out of the house in something that isn’t form fitting anywhere. I think it’s the boobs. A dress like that goes out. And just keeps going out out out away from the body on me. You look so cool (temp & style!) !!!!

Grechen, I bought this Oak dress and wore it to two birthday parties yesterday–one cousin turned 50yo and my uncle turned 70. Anyways, i got TONS of compliments on the dress! I love the simplicity and comfort of it and I also love how you can dress it up or down. It’s a perfect piece for my “minimalist” closet! Thank you so much for telling us about it 🙂
