I’m not sure I have the ability to articulate much right now, just wanted to check in! We just got home from our whirlwind trip to Charleston – I’m exhausted and still trying to get my bearings. We had a wonderful time, but suffered brutally from the humidity. Living in Austin for a while and now Dallas, we are NOT used to 80-90% humidity anymore (we both grew up in Florida), and weren’t quite prepared for it. I was generally comfortable, but we couldn’t just wander around outside as much as we’re used to.
Anyway, we had a wonderful anniversary trip, ate lots of great food, and were totally smitten with Charleston. I’ll write more about it later this week, but here’s what I wore home on the plane. I wore these pants with my sandals and a black tee walking around Sunday. I also wore them four times last week. I LOVE them. The color drew me in first, but you know I can’t resist slouchy pants, so the fit was a big plus too. They’re best worn low on the hips – ON ME – so they’re longer, and hang straighter. Nili Lotan pieces tend to also run slim in the thighs so they start out snug there, but with a few wears loosen up.
Happy Monday all!! Hope you had an enjoyable weekend.
OMG, Grechen, I LOOVE those Nili Lotan pants on you – the drape is perfect! As a matter of fact, I dig the whole outfit — it’s cute and casual and so nice to see a gentle pop of color. I’m trying to incorporate more color into my wardrobe and that goldenrod is great ’cause it’s not too bright. Dang, the pants are expensive, though – I’ll have to stalk them and see if they go on sale and still have my size by some miracle.
Btw, I whipped up a batch of those vegan, gluten free garbanzo bean blondies you recommended, and they’re delish. So satisfying with a cup of coffee. How many squares do you eat a day? You’ve gotten so tiny 🙂
Oh, that color is sooo good! And I really like the fit. I’ve always been curious about Nili Lotan clothes but not enough to spend the money…can you comment on the line or your general opinion? They seem like a New York cool girl style if that makes any sense. ?
I love those pants – I just clicked through and I’d never buy them based on the model fit, but much like so many Everlane pieces, I like them much more on a body that looks more like mine. The color is to die for (and better in real life than the bright it appears on the store’s website). Really love the mustard with the soft grays.
Does the seat sag much? I love linen, but have donated or sold many a pair because the backside looks like I’m wearing a diaper after a day of stretching out.
yes, nili lotan is really expensive 🙁 i’m very lucky to have bought these with credits at shopbop in exchange for the ace & jig dress 🙂 BUT, therealreal is a GREAT place for secondhand nili lotan at really good prices. i would keep an eye out there for them, maybe not this color right now, but the style?
so glad you love the blondies!!! i eat one a day, and one recipe for me equals 24 squares, so they last me about a month. – if you didn’t see before, i make a batch, divide it into four and put three sections in the freezer for later, and cut one up into six squares each week . if i ate them any other time of the day other than the AM, i would probably want a lot more than just one square, but i’m not usually very hungry in the morning. i LOVE them so much…
Those trousers fit you really well!
What is you go-to outfit for those hot, humid summer days. I’ve been living in sleeveless linen dresses and sandals. But it’s still really really hot.
i’ve only ever tried one other pair of nili lotan pants and i loved them also, but her stuff runs very slim in the thighs so they don’t really work well for me. these are a linen/cotton blend and have loosened up really nicely with wear so they do well on my thicker thighs. at first, they’re tight.
i really love the line, but the price sometimes confounds me. these pants are incredibly well made, with important details, and it’s not easy to get a drop-crotch to drape right (and i think these do), so for that reason, i think they’re sort of worth the price? maybe not more than $300 though. ugh. that’s a lot. i am fortunate to earn credits at shopbop i can use for them, but as i mentioned to holly below, therealreal is a really good place to look for secondhand nili lotan – i go there often to search for nili lotan and rachel comey.
here in DFW we’re not as humid, but at home, i’m always wearing my eileen fisher sleeveless linen jumpsuit or an ozma tank top jumpsuit with wide legs. i’ve come to the conclusion that it doesn’t really matter what i wear, i’m still going to be hot…so i just wear what i’m comfortable in! that said, sleeveless linen tops are good, and wide leg pants are THE BEST i’ve found. stuff that doesn’t touch my body very many places LOL
Thanks! I love cotton-linen blends; they’re so comfortable and I love the texture. Kinda hard to come by though! I also love cotton-silk blends and those are rare too. after your foray into ace&jig, I’m really curious about their textiles since so many people are fans, but I still have yet to find a pattern I really like. Really I just want to feel the fabric! Lol.
Wow, those pants are so great–they look terrific on you. I love the color and fit! The heat and humidity here in N.Y. is terrible too. Hard to believe I used to enjoy “sunbathing.” Honestly, I can’t think of anything I’d like to do less. I’m really starting to look forward to fall.
yes, the seat does sag, but it’s meant to LOL
5 days in a row is too many days to wear them without washing though – this is pretty stretched out. but they still keep their shape better than my cotton/linen JP pants did i think…
Misa, that made me laugh because you hit the nail on the head! She’s got a really cool shop in East Hampton and I always stand and gaze with envy at the pieces they have hanging in the window (Literally HANGING…by a hook on a rod. 🙂 ). My husband calls it “that really expensive store with 4 pieces of clothing”!
Nili Lotan’s pants are definitely meant to hang at the hips! I could not wear them the way her models do in the photographs. I love them, tho! Super-cute outfit!
i did not like the way they look on the models – too short, mostly – i think they should be a little slouchier. and the color in person is so much better than they look online. anyway…
i really enjoyed your “new” username on that last post 😉 haha…
and thank you.
The thing about Ace & Jig that I didn’t appreciate until I saw it in person is that every textile is woven, rather than having the pattern printed onto the fabric. So every piece has texture woven in as well as color that you can’t see online. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s easy to get sucked down the rabbit hole because the textiles themselves are basically works of art.
You’ve got a loyal fan base that loves you! And I’m not going to allow someone to attack a friend. If that makes me an “Amen Charlene,” I’ll wear it proudly!
Yes to this outfit- not only does it fit well, but everything is just right, as far as amount of drape, fabric, etc…. not too loose or clingy so it looks very classy! Also so great to see that mustard color tamed with the soft gray. Oh yes!!! More like this. Even if the pants are $$ you usually get what you pay for. One or two expensive, well made pants are far better on you than 5 cheapo ones that fit poorly……..
Dear Grechen – This is a great everyday comfy combo; looks great on you. Im with Mama V as always we do love you – I found Eileens’ linen tees on sale at her Soho, NYC store and got the green V neck a teal tank also linen and a cream w a gray piping in silk yum yum. Be happy 🙂
Love xoxogena
Thanks, Grechen! I’ll divide them up like you said. They are so yummy so I have to work at only having one square, LOL.

🙂
I should get a few – we’ve got a Greece trip planned in September!
