Admonish custom leather tote
Weirdly, I’ve been wearing jeans quite a bit lately. Yesterday I wore my Genetic jeans with this Zara top (over a tube top) and was pretty comfortable, in spite of the 98 degree heat. Usually when it gets this hot I just want to pull a dress on over my head and forget about it, but I’m beginning to appreciate jeans/pants for those days I don’t want to shave my legs. Which is pretty much every day, let’s be honest.
Anyway, these AG tomboy jeans are pretty much perfect for me and exactly what I was looking for in a pant: an ankle length fit with a slightly wider opening than skinny at the bottom. I wanted to find a pair of black or olive green pants that fit like this, but jeans will do. Since I didn’t want them to be lose at all, I sized down to a 28. If you want them to fit like boyfriend jeans, I’d take your normal size. They’re ridiculously comfortable. And made in the US.
The Madewell Oaxaca tank was a very spur of the moment purchase – I got it at the same time I got my sleeveless chambray top – with my 20% off coupon. I love it, but I haven’t quite figured out what else I can wear it with besides these jeans. The top has no shape at all, which means it hides my shape underneath it…getting a size small helps; I originally had a medium and it was just way too big, but this top will be a challenge to work with. I’m up for it though š
Do you have any pieces in your wardrobe you love, but are a challenge to work with?
Even better, the Camper sandals are on sale for $119…I need to get these now!
yes! you must get them. they’re fabulous.
There are times when I wished you were into color because this top would look great with a pop of something on the bottom. š The model on the website is wearing the other colorway with a straight gray maxi skirt. I know there’s one in your closet that could work with the top (which looks great on you, by the way). If you find those olive green pants anytime soon, that would totally work too.
There have been plenty of things in my wardrobe that left me challenged. I don’t have a ton but I do have a sheer-ish, printed, pleated midi skirt in my closet that I’ve probably worn once or twice in the 2+ years I’ve owned it. I never know what to wear underneath to not leave me all exposed and I never know what top to pair it with because it’s this gauzy kind of material. You’d think I would have gotten rid of it by now, but I love the colors in it so much and it’s twirl-worthy, lol. I try not to have too many stumpers in my closet and if I find I’m not wearing them, I try to let them go UNLESS I absolutely love it and would feel my closet is less complete if it weren’t there. š
I have my eyes on the perfect olive pants: I don’t think I can wait for a discount….. The rag and bone brigade pants at shopbop!
I have some cute items that are “orphaned” because I’m not sure what to do with them, or maybe it’s that I DO know what to do with them, but I’m not sure they’ll work on me: One is a “lace” 3/4 sleeve tee in ivory from J Crew, and the other is a floaty chiffon midi-length skirt in a peachy/pinky color. I know I could wear them together, I could wear a denim shirt with the skirt, the top with anything! But I think what it comes down to is this: I bought the trend, rather than what I felt totally comfortable in. So do I challenge myself and find a way to wear them???
You are looking great, lady! I’ve been a reader for a while and have been meaning to write to you for so long now. Love your style and your personality! It all really comes through in your writing. x
thank you!
i have been looking at those too! love them…probably not a great splurge for me right now when i still have weight to lose, but in the fall, i’m ALL over those!!
tell me about it…i would probably wear some color with this top – definitely olive green if i had some pants. i do have an olive green skirt from H&M and i wore the top with it once, but i have to tuck it in, and it really blouses out a lot. i do have a gray long straight skirt, but since i have such a short waist, the shirt + skirt together just swallows me up and makes me look completely shapeless…
if you were very brave, you could wear a body suit with your pleated skirt š i bet it would look cute, tank on top, still covered a bit on the bottom…
this happens to me all the time, and i just end up selling those items i buy that aren’t “me” but I wanted to try…if they don’t feel right, i never wear them. you know that about me š
“True dat” (as my 15-yr. old, Anna, cringes in the background…). I think I always like the way they look on Pinterest, as shown in someone’s “Street Style” post, such as Scott Schulman or Garance Dore. And then I wonder why they don’t look like that on me….Hmmm….time for a reality check?
I think your shape may have changed more than you are seeing right now. That top looks great to me, and the look overall is very crisp and cool.
you’re right lisa – i do still see some of my “old” shape and am clouded a bit by that. it’ll take time š
The tank is really pretty. Very architectural. You wear it well.
