I’m done complaining, but I was having a crappy morning this morning. Luckily, I was out of moisturizer so I had to go to Sephora 🙂 And while I was there, I played with lip color. Which usually scares me A LOT, but I was feeling kind of “why not” today and wanted to try on the new YSL VOLUPTÉ SHEER CANDY since they finally had it in stock. I really ended up loving the “mouthwatering berry” color, which you can see a better picture of here:
I didn’t buy it because even for me, $30 is a lot for lip “gloss” – but I really love it. The color has stayed on really well, and it’s incredibly hydrating; it feels amazing on. Does anyone have one of these? How has it held up for you? I also tried on the YSL regular lipstick in the “rose paris” color which is VERY VERY bright for me, but I kind of liked it. It was also very hydrating, and I definitely didn’t need much to give the amount of coverage I wanted, so it seems as if this would last for quite some time.
Anyway, nothing like pretty lipstick to cheer you up, no? And a smile 🙂
I also read this blog post this morning on one of my new MOST favorite blogs, out of the bag, in which she examines her style and gives some very helpful suggestions, I think, for achieving the effortless chic look – similar to the Parisian chic idea IMO. I love what she says about keeping your hair cut/styled because when your look is generally minimal, your hair cut is very important & “obvious.” I also extrapolate from that, that since I tend to wear/carry neutral colors, along with minimal makeup, a brighter lip might be appropriate. Especially for Summer.
Getting back to my closet…I feel better than ever now about weeding out my bright & printed clothing. My look today is my ultimate look – and years ago when I talked about my uniform, it was always a dress/cardigan or a long skirt/top. This is what I gravitate to, this is what is easy and comfortable; this is what is ME. Why I keep trying to mess with a good thing is beyond me.
So, if you’re in Austin, or close to Austin and you like any of my brighter/printed pieces (like my polka-dot skirt, bright pink skirt from Anthropologie, H&M printed skirt..) they’ll be for sale at the hunt.gather.style pop-up shop on July 16th along with tons of amazing vintage pieces and accessories from Sharon & Sydney. Come and get ’em!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!!!
Grechen, you look fantastic!
Clearly, embracing your authentic self is really working for you. You’ve never looked more confident or beautiful. Keep it up! 🙂
Isn’t it always the most fulfilling when we are authentic? I love the lipcolor on you. As an MUA, I’d say, “Get it!” (It meets my requirements for buying makeup: Makes you feel super, looks great on you, “pops” your eye color, and it costs enough to be special!).
Sephora is like a vaccuum in the way it sucks people in. I was also playing around with lip color recently and fell in love with Bare Escentuals lip color in gelato. It pretty much goes with anything and is a great day color. It’s also so smooth and creamy, but does not smudge. And it’s 100% natural. I might have to go back and splurge the 15 bucks for it…
thanks susan!!
i’m going to get it…definitely, but it’s already gone at one sephora near me…i may have to order it 🙁
