Everlane scarf
James Perse casual tee
MiH Paris jeans (on sale at Barney’s Warehouse, size 30 – I think these run at least one size small)
Vince Kia flats
J Crew field jacket
Gerard Darel Bowling Plum bag (gifted by Forzieri for review)
So, I took the dog out this morning and it was around 70 degrees, left for my Pure Barre class an hour later, and it was 50. Now it’s 44 and rainy – the perfect day for my J Crew field jacket and new Everlane scarf, which I’ve been dying to wear, but it’s been too hot for! I love the one I got, but looking at my outfit now, it could use just a bit of color, maybe I should have gotten one of their more “colorful” scarves, which of course I debated. Perhaps the essential scarf in “hazelnut”? I’d also love another pair of the Vince flats when they go on sale – they are so comfortable, and while I love the neutral pair I got, if I had an actual color, I probably would have worn it today – maybe this blue is next on my list?
Now, I need some help. Tomorrow if you’re a VIB, Sephora is offering 15% off, and the only time I ever shop Sephora is when I get some kind of deal, so I try to stock up. I’m going to replace my Hourglass eyeliner, get a full-size of Living Proof amp (I’ve been using a trial size for a while and I really like it) and I’d like to try this Halo powder by Smashbox. Has anyone tried it? I’m desperate for something to reduce redness that doesn’t dry my face out. I’m intrigued by this because it’s a powder; I don’t normally use powders because they make my face feel dry, although I do like the “matte” finish they give to my face. I tried this new Dr. Brandt stuff and I’m pretty sure it made it worse – my cheeks broke out, which is weird because it’s supposed to be pretty gentle.
Any suggestions? What have you tried and loved at Sephora lately?
I just did a little post extolling my love of the new(er) Bare Escentuals READY foundation- I don’t find it drying or notice that it accentuates flakes. I am just trying to cover redness around my nose and sun spots/discoloration and feel that it does that well without feeling like a full layer of foundation.
I am also raving about the Urban Decay Naked palettes. I have never been particularly skilled at putting on eyeshadow and they make it extremely easy. There is definitely a reason these palettes hundreds of rave reviews on Sephora/Ulta/Makeupalley.
Also, the Eileen Fisher store is calling me as soon as they get more harem pants in stock! LOOK what you have done, Grechen π
omg, jinx!! i was totally over at your blog reading your makeup bag post π
i have used bare escentuals before, and i did like it, but it felt drying on my skin. maybe i’ll give this newer version a try
and i love the naked 2 palette – i play with it in sephora, but i never ever wear eye makeup! i literally have no idea what to do. well, besides apply the lightest color all over LOL
i am SO EXCITED!!! i hope we’ll see an outfit post soon π
Haha! Too funny. I was the exact same way- I just wore the same light Stila eyeshadows, every day (Starlight or Kitten, still love them!). But with the palette you can get adventurous by smudging different colors in the outer corner, using them as eyeliner, or eventually getting brave enough to use them all over your lid. Definitely consider it!

I have Essential scarf in Hazelnut and LOVE it. I’m actually debating if I should get another one in Plum as I just found out this scarf is discontinued (form their CS person). It is the softest scarf I’ve ever owned and is also warm, and I love how it is so easy to style, too.
that’s it, i’m ordering one right now…
thanks for your input!!
how are you liking your sweatshirt? i’m wearing mine right now at home π it held up nicely to washing/drying
I wore it all day yesterday and quite liked it! I really like how it fits. I’m a SAHM and do not like wearing typical sweatshirts (I’m not from the U.S. originally), so this one fits the bill of being somewhat classy and sort of hides all the right places. π Was also happy it didn’t stink after a day of pushing a stroller through the mall.
Oops! Hit the wrong Reply button. Sorry!
I LOVE the Everlane scarf and now I want one! I’m big on scaves and will even allow myself to overheat, as long as it covers up my turkey wattle. So cute. Love the outfit, and I think if you introduced color, it would be cute, but would change the whole mood of the outfit. I see it as kind of minimalist. And I love it. Now, makeup. You know I could talk all day about that. I’ve got a Nakeds Palette that I won and never use. I’ll send it to you! (a gift on me! You do enough for us!) Also, I used to sell Halo at the boutique I worked at in MN, and I LOVED it. It give moisture, takes care of redness (which I know is a biggie for both of us), looks completely natural, and is worth getting on the discount cuz it’s pricey. But I think mine lasted almost a year and I used it almost every day. I would suggest trying it on in-store. It runs dark. You’d probably take the lightest shade, and I was a “Light.”
Hi Grechen,
The Dr. Brandt item is terrible. I have never had issues with my face and it made me get red, itchy and blotchy. Please advise your readers against it (unless it is for non-sensitive skin), however my skin has also been combination.
How do you like this striped scarf? Is it soft and does it drape nicely?
it’s very nice – it’s still a bit stiff, but i think it will soften up over time and become more drape-y…i love the neutral colors. but i’m definitely getting that essential scarf in hazelnut – placing my order today!!
