Five months this week!! And legit sitting up on his own now. Amazing.
What a rollercoaster lately! I heard the two week rule lately (or maybe that was just something my mother made up, I can’t remember), which is: whatever is happening now, just wait two weeks and it will change again. Accurate.
Hawk is such a beautiful boy. He is sweet and happy. He loves to sing with me (so f’ing cute) and jump in his jolly jumper. He sits up and watches the fire in the fireplace and plays with my napkin (above).
I did try and “sleep train” him for naps recently, to no avail. I mean, it works sometimes, but more often I end up just nursing him to sleep because I’ll put him in his bassinet and he’ll cry for longer than I’m comfortable with. He will sleep for hours on me, but that isn’t working for me anymore; I need a little independent time, and I want him to be more comfortable sleeping on his own for naps. He was sleeping 8-9 hours at night, not waking up at all, but lately he wakes up about an hour after he goes down, and then a couple more times during the night. I’ve doubled up on the white noise and increase the Snoo’s motion a bit when he starts to stir and that gets him back to sleep most times. And now, when he wakes up at 5 or 6 I nurse him then put him back to bed, where he sleeps for another hour or so about 50% of the time (which is what he’s doing right now…).
Ah. The adventure.
We’ve started to go for a little socialization at the JCC, which is fun. Why didn’t I do that earlier? The other ladies there had been coming since their babies were six weeks old. I just felt more “normal” and understood when I was there with other moms, even though they’re younger than I am – I still got that sense of community I needed. This coming week we’re going to his first STEAM babies class there, which is weekly.
I did also stress shop a bit after a particularly difficult night with Hawk last week haha. I am NOT IMMUNE.
I ordered some pieces from Eileen Fisher’s new non-gendered collection at Nordstrom. Have you seen that? I love it – it’s very Comme Des Garcons IMO and slightly more affordable. I will receive them on Monday and hopefully get to post a quick review next week to let you know my thoughts if you’re also interested.
I didn’t order anything but want to let you know that Entireworld is popping up at Nordstrom also. I LOVE all my Entireworld pieces to death and recommend them highly. If you aren’t a fan of their website (design and music!!), the ordering experience at Nordstrom is much better LOL – so now might be a good time to try if you’re in need of colorful basics. I have this tee and wear it a few times a week right now because it’s perfectly cropped and fits just right. I’m tempted by some of the colors now…
I did also order the Gabe culottes in Nova from Ace & Jig during their sale on sale. I’m afraid I’ll never learn with Ace & Jig…I have bought and returned/sold a couple of pieces lately for fit/textile issues, but I just can’t resist!
Now, I just need shoes. I’m afraid my feet have widened a bit so that I need a half size bigger in some shoes, and several of my current pairs aren’t comfortable. My white Dansko clogs don’t fit me anymore, and they’re what I reach for most often lately, so I will probably just replace those and call it a day.
I’m feeling a little better lately – not so much pain. I’m learning to really appreciate and revel in the little moments here and there. The ones when Hawk is singing with me, or holding on tight. When he sleeps for a bit and I get some quiet time (like now). And when I feel a little more comfortable in my body. Who knew a baby was just what I needed to start being more present? Haha. probably all of you with kids, that’s who 🙂
How are you guys? What’s going on in your lives?? I miss you!!
HI GRECHEN!
Just rec’d an email that you had a new post. I cannot think of a better way to treat myself then to spend some time catching up with you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. But TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED:) We’re here and, many of us (myself included), have been where you are. Hawk is so cute. But that’s not a surprise. He’s part of you!
Apologize for all the upper case. Just trying to let you know how happy I am to hear from you.
So so happy to see your post! I miss you! But I can understand, when I see this adorable, sweet little boy, why you are “otherwise occupied.” 😉 You look FANTASTIC, btw. And I’m really glad to hear that the physical pain level is better. Do you know what made the difference? PT? Yoga? Time?
I’m VERY interested in seeing the new Eileen Fisher collection. I haven’t even heard about it. I finally finished “Kondoing” my closet, with my youngest daughter’s help, and while my middle daughter was home from Colombia, she helped me sort my beauty closet – WHEW! What a job. I’m donating to the women’s shelter because I’ve got so much STUFF! But it’s such a great feeling to have organized, emptier closets.
You look fantastic
So happy to hear from you! Hawk is the sweetest and I love his name so much!
Good to hear you’re feeling better. You look great. When my kids were that small I was a mess — sleep deprivation is not a method of torture for nothing!
Oh my gosh. The entireworld website is a wreck. That being said, I looked at the Nordstrom collection and there weren’t enough of the items I was looking for so I bit the bullet and spent like one whole hour clicking around the entireworld site and ordering like 5 things. I am so excited for basics that are COLORFUL. I’m sick of monochrome.
yes, the entireworld website is so difficult to navigate…but the clothes are worth it, i promise!! i can’t wait to read/hear what you think of your pieces.
