James Perse crepe surplus pants | sold out
Birkenstock Arizona Sandals

The James Perse sale is ending soon!! Who’s placed more than one order? I stuck to just one this time, and I’m happy with that. I’m realizing lately that I bought because I COULD and because I wanted to, not because I needed anything. Sure, I could rationalize all I want that I needed this shirt or that skirt, or whatever, but with few exceptions, I didn’t.
Now, that I actually have ALL My clothes hanging in one closet, I know what I have, and what I need. I’m also really going to force myself to wear the things I love more often. Not that I really need to “force” myself, it’s more like reminding myself that I have so many things that make my “heart sing” as fshnonmymind (Angela) likes to say, that I don’t wear for one reason or another.
These two James Perse pieces are a great example. I put these pants on and think to myself “damn, I love these!!” Same with the t-shirt, although you’ll notice it’s not a typical color for me (wild rose), but it’s still rather neutral, and I think it looks wonderful with my skintone/hair color. I do wish I’d purchased a size 3 in the shirt though, so it’s just a bit looser; I think I’d wear it more.
Also, there are quite a few items in the James Perse sale that are the wild rose pigment, so you can get a look at how the color looks on me here. As I said, I love it, and you know I don’t normally love ANY color!! Don’t forget to check the James Perse summer sale fit guide and leave a comment with your suggestions or items you’d like to swap from the sale.
You look gorgeous and that color is really beautiful. Pink is my favorite color, though I don’t wear it often. This is a great, subtle color.
Well, I placed a second order for the black funnel neck cashmere sweater because my first sweater was so wonderful. :-0 This is a clear stretch of my honest desire to cut down on expenses and clothing items. It hasn’t arrived yet, and I am sure it will be a useful piece. I have a “rule” that if something comes in, something must go out so maybe I’ll find something to sell on eBay, though I haven’t had much like with eBay lately.
The flip side to this is that I really would love a few other pieces that I haven’t ordered. The shipping fee holds me back, thankfully. I covet the Clean Chinos, but I have butt issues so am scared to order pants without trying them first. I covet the Vintage Fleece Drape Neck Pullover in black! And I would love a piece of wild rose Vintage Fleece, either the hoodie or the sweatshirt. There is a bright pink version in the sweatshirt that I wish I could see in real life…sometimes I look better in brighter. My own vintage fleece sweatshirt is a kind of military green, and I am pretty sure if it is the best color on me.
Someone was asking about the Relaxed Shirt. I have the black version from last season (winter) in a size 2. It has a different name, but looks to be very similar or the same as it has the same fabric content. It doesn’t look great on me and I can’t quite figure out what it is. Maybe it’s a tad loose? In the relaxed tshirt I go down to a size 1, so maybe I need to do the same with the other relaxed items? I’ve worn it for about an hour around the house and it has stayed in my closet ever since. I am not great at wearing blouses, but am trying to get better.
thank you catherine! i like pink also, but just a little 😉 – not as much as i used to. i had hot pink patent tory burch reva flats that i wore OUT, and a few pale pink bags, and a hot pink skirt!!! as an accent color, i loved how it went with black/white/gray…but i just can’t do that bright anymore. this is a good compromise, i think.
That color is lovely on you! It’s pink, but really reads as a neutral, if that makes you feel better. 😉
I am not purchasing anything from the James Perse sale, because I am making a conscious effort to not buy anything final sale unless I’ve tried it on, or it’s a low enough price point that I don’t mind eating the cost. I love the tuxedo shirts, but have no idea how they will actually fit, so am resisting them.
Of course, I’ve recently bought probably $150 worth of final sale stuff from J. Crew and Madewell that I’m now trying to sell on eBay because it doesn’t fit etc., so maybe would have been better off buying one shirt for $99 that I really liked. 🙁
you know, if i’m being totally honest here, i definitely would have ordered more if i was spending money wily nily like i was just a couple of months ago…i could have easily spent $500 or more. and i would have worn everything i got, and loved it. what held me back this time was mostly financial constraints. i just DO NOT have money allocated for spending on clothes anymore (aside from my Shopbop & Forzieri credits). as it was, i had to take a “loan” on my personal “allowance” for next month to get the pieces i DID get. which was worth it. but i didn’t want to push it. if i didn’t have such a strict budget in place, i’m sure i would not have been able to restrain myself. So i’m glad i DO have that in place, because i also KNOW that i do not want to add too many things to my closet right now.
a word on jp pants: i love all the pairs i have, but i would NOT recommend buying them online without trying them on first – DEFINITELY not on final sale…they stretch differently, fit differently, etc., that it’s really hit or miss with most of them. i’m going to do a better job of trying on more pairs in store in the coming seasons so i can give a better assessment of the styles and how they fit. (again..thank goodness for my budget, or else i would not be able to go in there without buying SOMETHING!!)
not to enable or anything, but the vintage fleece drape neck pullover is so great 😉 i was able to wear mine over the weekend because it was so cool here, and i was so happy. i do wish i might have sized up though, so it is longer. but then it would have been much larger around my waist, so i’m not sure i would have been as happy with it…now, i just try to layer over a tank top.
i’m not good at wearing blouses either. which is why i didn’t get the relaxed shirt, although i loved the striped one i tried on in the store. blouses just feel too fussy to me. i’m THAT casual !!!
I think that was me, Christina! I really want that shirt, but I already bought the Madewell oversized cotton shirt (identical to the one Grechen has in white) in black, plus I have a black silk J Crew blouse and a black “Tucker-style” smocked silk blouse, so I obviously don’t NEED another one….or DO I?!?!?
OMG, Jen…it’s like you’re telling my life story! I can’t tell you ( No, seriously, I can’t. If I think about how much money I’ve wasted, I’ll feel sick!) how much money has gone toward the “great deals” on final sale items that don’t fit.
I’m feeling more empowered by you all, though. I CAN stick to a budget. And I WILL!
Grechen, I love the rose color on you and I think Jen is so right about it reading like a neutral. I think it would look great with your grey or army green pants/skirts, too. I love the neckline!
Aww, thanks for the mention. 🙂 And I definitely had that thought in mind as I cleaned out my closet/drawers on Monday. Granted there were some things that I wasn’t completely in love with that did stay but all I could do was shake my head at the pile of things that I probably shouldn’t have bought in the first place.
I want you to continue putting on things that you love even if you don’t have what you feel is the appropriate occasion to wear them. At the very least you will have on something that you feel good in and that you love to wear!!
It’s always a shock to my system to see you in color lol. This rose color is very pretty and looks great on you!!
haha! i know how much you love color on me.
i will keep doing that, and i think i can MAKE occasions if i want to, or screw it…just wear my silk pants to target. who cares??
oh. twins!!
oh man. sorry about your madewell/j crew stuff! i just don’t do final sale at all unless it’s james perse. i have been burned SO MANY times! i feel like with JP i know my size, etc., well enough to know that it will work, and if it doesn’t, i’ll make it work anyway 😉
Grechen, that color looks great on you!
Thank you! I love how subtle it is…
I bought 3 more of the black drape black top in a 2 (5 ft 6, 130 lbs, 34dd). I wore the first one I purchased it in a work video and as usual i felt I looked 40 lbs heavier but once I ignored myself, I loved the easy modern look for work. It is now a staple for me, My sister is visiting this week, she may take one if it fits her.
