It’s okay to wear sweatpants in public if they’re James Perse, right? Haha…you know I don’t believe in fashion rules, except that leggings aren’t pants. I do think there’s a way to style almost anything (sweatpants included) to make it look more “put together” and slightly more chic than just throwing on whatever is clean with sneakers and calling it an outfit. Not that I necessarily achieved that here, but I do think it can be done.
I did wear this out yesterday to run to Target, but otherwise, I’ve generally stuck to wearing these at home. Although I’m considering taking them to San Francisco in a couple weeks, either for wearing on the plane with a t-shirt and cashmere cardigan, or for lounging at the hotel. They do stretch out A LOT, but not so much they look a mess, or are TOO slouchy, like my crepe surplus pants do. I am wearing a size 2, which are pretty tight when I first put them on, but give with wear.
And here’s a little glimpse of my office, where the blogging magic happens LOL. It’s pretty much together in terms of furniture, but I desperately need some art on my walls, which is something I have a very hard time spending any money on.
Have a great weekend!!
Darn straight it’s OK to wear JP sweats in public! I think your idea of taking them to San Fran is great. To me the trick to keeping sweatpants from looking too casual is to make sure the rest of the outfit isn’t too slouchy and casual. So, the upscale Vince sneaks, a designer bag, a statement necklace, a cashmere sweater, a swish of lipstick, a designer scarf–they will all elevate your look to be travel-worthy.
BTW, I went thrifting this morning and got a James Perse taupe U-neck long-sleeved T-shirt for $3! I am absolutely giddy.

It seems lots of sweatpants are now so stylish that they can be worn outside the house and gym. Oh and I love your hair.
JP for $3? That is a find, Laurel! I’m totally OK with ,”chic” sweats or yoga pants worn in public. I mean, seriously, are we supposed to dress-up to run errands after the gym or on a stay-at-home day? No way! Sweatpants wearers, UNITE!! ( I almost typed “UNTIE!”…but that would defeat my whole argument.)
And I’d say your office looks comfy, but you do need art. Think of it as an investment for your quality of life. And find something meaningful or special to you on your travels. That’s the best kind!
I love your office! I am sort of in the same boat. We’ve got all of our rooms in the new house furnished, but no wall stuff. For some reason I’m having trouble committing to anything. Wish me luck….

thanks cathy!! i’ve never been good at picking out art – everything we do have on our walls were gifts, or photographs…i think it’s time to start investing in actual art. which scares me! but feels very “adult” LOL
yes, i know i really need art – and good point about finding stuff as we travel, but i have never really been one to shop a lot while traveling. which is strange to admit, but again, maybe it’s because my husband really hates it. unless he’s shopping for himself 😉
thank you maryann!! i love my hair too. i think i’ve finally found a style i can stick with!
uh…great buy!!!
your sweatpant outfit for me sounds wonderful 🙂 but a swish of lipstick? who do you think i am?? LOL – i do need to wear color on my lips more often. i have that great MJ color i got but have never worn. and those great maybelline lippies…i don’t know what’s wrong with me…
