James Perse Workwear pants (size 27)
James Perse wool/cotton tee (size 1)
James Perse denim jacket (size 1) | seems to be sold out
I mentioned last week that I ordered these two pieces from the James Perse sale (free shipping has ended, sorry!). I already owned the cotton/wool tee. I received the jacket and pants on Tuesday, and although I haven’t worn them out yet (it’s been hovering around 100 degrees here…), I can give a preliminary review of each.
The jacket – it appears to be sold out? But it may pop back up, or be a mistake? I like the jacket fine, but as usual, it’s not cropped enough on me, although I probably could have gone down a size, and it would fit better. I love the weight of the denim, and all the interesting details. I appreciate the 3/4 sleeves that roll up nicely, and the slight pleating in the back that gives it a little balloon shape. I’m not crazy about the lack of collar (I think that’s now firmly something I DO NOT like on me), and I don’t love the distressed denim at the neckline as much as I thought I would.
The pants are really great – and fit me well in the size 27, although without so much drop-crotch as on the model. If I was wearing a size 28 and my legs were thinner overall, perhaps the pants would fit me like the model, but I’m happier with the way they fit my body, honestly. They’re loose, but not too loose, and I can tighten them up in the waistband with the built-in belt (LOVE THIS). The best thing?? The contrast ribbed knit at the cuff. I’m not always a fan of visible contrast on a garment but for fall/winter I think I will REALLY appreciate this for keeping my ankles warmer. I can also wear the pants un-cuffed without their being too long on me.
The pants are definitely not summer-weight pants. And they are more olive than brown in real life, which I’m grateful for; I had been looking for a pair of olive pants to replace my ES clyde pants and Raquel Allegra pants I sold recently. They do loosen up with wear, but the adjustable belt in the back keeps them from falling down on my hips like my other JP pants do.
I highly recommend the pants, and sizing down at least one size in them. But then again…I wouldn’t normally recommend buying JP pants on final sale because they’re sort of tough to fit. If you don’t mind taking the risk to find an excellent well-fitting pair of pants, then do it. If you’re just “meh” or don’t need pants, then pass.
Did anyone else receive their James Perse orders yet? They will be adding new items to the sale on Sunday, and I will try to post about it Monday, but we’ll be at the beach by then, so maybe not? haha.
Oh, and update on my sister and I if you’re still reading: My sister came home yesterday and is still doing well. She needs to take it easy and rest, but she can go on vacation. I felt horrible yesterday and today am feeling a million times better. I credit first, the neti pot (I got so much gunk out of my nose it’s not even funny), and also the homeopathic sinus tablets I’ve been taking. Also, I’m loading up on fruits and vegetables to be sure I’m getting all the vitamins I need.
How was your fourth?
We….pressure washed our patio yesterday morning, so, Happy 242nd birthday, America 😉 Had a lovely potluck picnic with neighbors on one’s buffalo farm; they do it most years on the 4th. So we were social, had good food & drink, still made it home & to bed by 10pm because we’re at work today 🙂 Glad you’re feeling better, and so is your sister – have a great time on vacation!!
Grechen – you look great in the jacket and the pants. I say keep them both – not sure why you don’t like the neckline – and if it’s going to bother you, then maybe look for another jacket?
And ps – I loved this article, published for the 4th and a good read anytime https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/02/arts/music/irving-berlin-god-bless-america.html
Pants that manage to actually keep ankles warm are amazing! I really like the green of these.
Good to hear your sister is doing well.
Glad to hear your sister and you are on the mend.
That jacket! I think it looks great and I like the no collar and faded look. The front details are amazing on it and I love how you styled it with the top button done. The pants look great as well. If I didn’t already have so many pants already I’d be tempted to get those. You can’t really see the ribbed knit in the photos, but when I read that I was surprised. That’ll be great for winter time.
thanks jen 🙂
you do have the best pants….
i thought of you immediately when i put these pants on; they’re so you!
yeah, i don’t really zoom in on product photos so i wasn’t aware of the ribbing either, and honestly, i don’t normally like that, but i think i’ll be really happy for it when it’s cold 🙂
The pants look great on you–also the jacket. I like a little ease in clothes so to my eye the jacket fits perfectly. The lack of collar looks fine but would probably bother me too. So glad your sister is doing better.
Those pants! = amazing.
The whole outfit is amazing! However, I’m not wearing it and I often find that even when things loook good, if they don’t feel good I’m just not happy about it then.
i am the same way…
i feel great in the outfit so far, but i haven’t worn it out yet. we’ll see 🙂
