I ordered this James Perse dress a week or so ago from Tobi (they take FOREVER to ship) with the 30% off TOBICANDY coupon code, and finally got it yesterday. Now I think I might want to order another in the Dahlia color (which looks like a very nice burgundy/brownish color). At first, I was a little disappointed in how snug it is, but quickly started liking it, especially after my fiance noticed it and actually LIKED it – that never happens, he wishes I dressed “up” more, and in not so much jersey…
It’s very fitted at my hips, but I love the draping and wrap from the waist down (THIS is why the dress is $175, and worth it IMO), and the length is actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be on me; because of the asymmetric hem, I think the longer length works. It’s super-soft, and the skirt is made of a couple very thin layers so you might not need to wear a slip with it, but I would – anyway, I always wear body shapers with dresses/skirts – first for the coverage, and second for their smoothing affect.
Finally…a hit from James Perse Fall…after the failures of my last two dresses, I’m glad to have found one that works. I’m also now looking at this dress at Shopbop – I love the cowl neck and waistband – do I have a problem??
I’m also wearing a skin & threads cardigan from Beklina, Robert Clergerie shoes (6 years old) and the lovely Fullum & Holt bag I can’t stop carrying…
I love that bag! It looks like I can fit everything i need to carry.
kalli – this bag is amazing…i’m FINALLY going to post the review tomorrow, but i’ve been using it to tote my laptop around – in addition to all my other crap. it’s perfect for that, and still lightweight.
Great outfit! You look really nice, the black shoes matches with the dress and the vivid color of the cardigan adds enough sharp contrast to make it crisp. we can never have enough james perses can we?
i love the color story going on here – so very fall! and the RC platforms complete the look. now you’ve got me thinking about stopping by the JP boutique in the west village later today…:P
.-= miss sophie´s last blog ..happiness is a perfect striped shirt =-.
You look incredible in that JP dress! It really highlights your tiny waist with the wrap. Also, I’m lovin’ the length on you–I agree that it’s the asymmetry. Platforms are super-cool (6 yrs. old??? You must be easier on your shoes than me. lol) As for, “Do I have a problem?” with JP–only YOU can answer that one…LOL!
P.S. I’ve been thinking about you with all of the news stories about the flooding. I hope you and your loved ones are OK!
Gretchen, this is a very sexy-yet-casual look, and all of it works for this really odd summer-fall transition period. I love it on you! The length is perfect, and I’m glad you wore a platform shoe. Are those espadrilles? I’m sure your fiance will want to take you out, and then very quickly back home, in this outfit. π
I know, I’m going to shock you here with our shared loved of huge bags, but I’m not getting your adoration for this one. Apparently I need to see it in person?
thanks val – we’re okay, it was just a very crazy day here Monday – i’m glad the rain is over!!
thanks π
i wore the heck out of those shoes in the beginning, but really haven’t worn them much the last three years…that’s why they’ve held up so well!!!
the shoes’ aren’t espadrilles – they’re a rubber platform i think – very sturdy and comfortable.
i can understand your hesitance with regard to the bag – i didn’t love it in pictures either, but it’s insane how comfortable it is to carry (how lightweight it is) and how soft the leather is. i wish the pockets inside were larger and there were more of them, but i am so in love with this bag π it grew on me LOL
thanks sophie π i don’t usually like to wear black and orange together (too halloween-y) but with a neutral bag, i think it works. i’m glad i tried it
no, we can never have enough james perse. that seems to be literally true in my case LOL – i cannot stop buying his dresses lately…
That dress is gorgeous in the dahlia, now I want it! so deadly this blog, srsly, all you make me want to do is buy things!! My friend tells me that I would look hoochie in it tho, which gives me pause, cos I am also leery about that sort of attention. I love that red, I have a tank from James Perse from like 4-5 years ago and I love the color, gorgeous.
