So, I’m trying my hand at man-repelling* today, on purpose. If you listen to my fiance, (almost) all my outfits are man-repelling LOL – but today, I’m conscious of it. The moment I put this skirt on at MOSS the other day, I proclaimed “this is SO man-repelling!” – ask Sari, she was there 🙂 But I love it. It’s so fun – and “interesting.” And I think I can pull it off. It feels good, and fun, and care-free, and easy (=Grechen), so I used up my credit at the consignment store and went for it. And since I never actually had a pair of Girbaud jeans in the 90’s, I felt like it was time I owned something from the iconic brand.
Obviously, it’s voluminous and has a bubble hem, so I’ll always balance it out with something fitted on top, and it looks best with HIGH heels, but I tried it on with flat sandals, and it wasn’t awful. I’d like to add a belt, but I don’t have one that’s quite appropriate for this at the moment.
What do you think? Man-repelling? or not?
*I give TOTAL and complete credit to Leandra for coining the term “man repeller” – she is genius & hilarious.
How could a man be repelled by this outfit? You look gorgeous!! That being said, Man Repeller is total genius- one of my favorites 🙂
I like how you paired a fitted top with it! I’m not so sure you need a belt–it looks great!

Definitely not “man repellant.” I love the shape of the skirt. It’s unique and sophisticated. It reminds me of an afternoon in Paris…
I think you look adorable and the length of the skirt is SO flattering on you! (How funny….I remember having a pair of “paperbag waist” acid wash Girbaud jeans!!! Talk about “man repellant”!! lol…)
I love that skirt and if it repels men I kind of consider that a positive thing in the summer time (catcalling’s prime season). You look fantastic though. I can’t fathom anyone seeing this ensemble and thinking anything but tres chic!

Men….schmen!!!!
you know i have nothing against man-repelling!! i mean man-repelling in the sense that it is different – it’s an interesting shape (not a mini-skirt) that men would just think is “weird.” even some women would be “repelled” by it – or at least would never wear it.
I am teasing…I’m married to one of them!! I just think that too many women dress only to please their man and not for themselves. Of course, I want my husband to find me attractive, but that doesn’t mean that he dictates what I wear or do with my hair! I get it, that man-repelling is kind of fun!!! (like me in my pj’s unti 2pm).
my fiance had no words for my outfit yesterday! but of course, he really doesn’t like much of what i wear, which is kind of frustrating, but i understand that he has a different aesthetic than i do. but when we go out, i try to compromise and wear something we’ll both like, and i don’t wear my hole-y joe’s jeans with him
My guy is the same way about my jeans. His standard comeback: “Did you pay extra for the holes?” He hates it when I wear knee length skirts. He loves long skirts ( I think it reminds him of our younger “hippie days”!!), but then he’d have me in long hair (and I kind of look like Billy Ray Cyrus with long hair!!).
Heck yes, it’s man-repelling. It says, “Hey boys, look at me, the hemline on my skirt gets shorter… But you STILL can’t see my knees! Psych! Mwahahaha!” I freakin’ love it.
