Ah…harem pants & clogs, two of my favorite things! At this point, I probably have enough harem/slouchy pants to last a lifetime; clearly have more than any person needs, but I am DRAWN to them like a moth to a flame. As I am also drawn to clogs. Which, if you’re a regular reader, you know. I’m so excited for cooler weather so I can wear all of my harem pants & clogs more often – bring it on!!
I know harem pants are a touchy subject, sadly they get more hate than love around the blogosphere (honestly, I may have been one of the haters before!), but I’m so glad I tried them. As I’ve said before, fashion & style are about having fun with your look – and since I don’t “do” color, my way of playing around with my style is with different silhouettes like slouchy or wide-leg pants. I love to experiment with shapes and sizes; the results may not always work or look great on my body, but now that I’m almost 41 (gasp!) I’m more about having fun with my look and being happy with the way I feel, than being so concerned with it being “flattering” on my body type. Life it too short, right? And what REALLY makes me happy is that my trying harem pants influenced some of you to try them too, which is ultimately WHY I do what I do.
On another note, I’m so excited to finally be able to share with you my collections on eBay. As I’m sure you recognize, I LOVE to shop, but I almost love getting a great deal more, so scouring eBay to find my favorite harem pants, clogs, cashmere, structured satchels, biker jackets & more was a lot more fun than should be allowed 🙂 I’d love it if you’d follow me there, and please let me know what you think!

(what do you think of the new look of eBay? have you explored it much? I love it – having been overwhelmed by eBay in the past, I love that it’s now easy to follow people whose taste I appreciate and go straight to the good stuff!)
I love that outfit, and agree, that clogs are comfy. You might’ve discussed this in previous posts, but I was wondering about your “not doing color.” I’m similar, and wear mostly muted earth tones. I like pops of color, though, in my accessories. If you wouldn’t mind repeating, what’s your take on color? (You already know that I like eBay, and also appreciate the “new look.”)
I think that what really makes a look modern or dated is the proportion / silhouette. If you are willing to try new shapes, you will always look current, particularly if you stick to neutrals. It IS just about having fun, and people need to be more brave! (Said the two ladies with their crotches around their knees 🙂 )
lol. touchè…
i do like color on others, sometimes, but on me, i just prefer a very neutral palette: gray, black & white. if i do wear colors it’s usually very muted, like the inhabit top i’m wearing here. and even so, i never feel like “me” when i’m wearing anything black, white or gray; i feel like i’m trying too hard to be someone else in color. i can carry bags in color though – i like that (i have yellow and burgundy) because they add a little interest without actually being on my body! honestly, i’m just drawn to black & gray mostly, white for layering – and i find it so much easier to create a cohesive wardrobe if it’s filled with things that will always all go with each other…
Consider me another harem convert thanks to you. I’ve learned, from your outfit posts and my trial and error, that the trick to styling them is to keep things streamlined on top: nothing too slouchy or flowy or pouffy, or you’ll look like you’re waiting on the sultan. So your outfit above is perfect.
lol laurel! i do agree, although it’s fun sometimes to play around with slouchy on top. they do look much better with something quite fitted on top though…
You look amazingly fit, what an inspiring transformation!
