I joke with myself all the time about my obsession with Gwyneth Paltrow – maybe obsession is a strong word – and the fact that I drink lemon water every morning because she said I should. No, it’s not because she said I should, but it’s funny to think that it is. And every time a goop newsletter shows up in my email I drop everything and open it immediately; she’s my Martha Stewart.
So when I saw this pin of her pop-up yesterday I re-pinned it to my What to Wear board and thought about trying to recreate it. Without the Goyard, sadly. I forgot that I had these pants (they don’t fit that well), and honestly, I never would have worn this outfit with a gray top (I would have worn white), but I really love the color combination. So, here it is. And I’m pretty sure Gwyneth and I are the same age (41), so I’m allowed to copy her. Now, if I could just get her hair…hmmm…
Oh, and guess what I’m doing the next two weeks? I’m going to try to stick to just 10 items. Yes, I’m going to pick 10 items (not including shoes/accessories or outerwear) and just wear those for two weeks. It’ll be a good exercise, I think. In what, I’m not sure yet 😉
Stay tuned for more details on Monday. Maybe you want to do it with me? I got the idea from Into Mind – not that she outlines any specifics to follow, or anything, just planted the idea in my head. She asks if you can wear the same 10 items in 2 weeks without sacrificing style. Of course I said yes, and I know I could, I just don’t want to. So I’m going to make myself try. Hopefully this will make packing for trips easier!
Could you do it? What do you think?
Have a great weekend!!
I can’t relate to Gwyneth at all, nor any other Hollywood star. (Although the lemon water part sounds good.) I could, however, wear the same 10 items in 2 weeks. Funny, but I do that all the time without trying!
i can’t either – i never look at celebrity fashion or to them for inspiration at all, but GP can do no wrong 😉
i got the lemon water thing from this issue, but i’ve seen it before. i’m not sure if i actually feel different as a result of doing it, but it’s sort of a habit now, and i know it can’t be BAD for me, so i keep doing it !
Now that I’ve thought more about it, I do admire someone like Linda Hunt. But it’s for her acting abilities, not her sense of style;).
Off topic, but you know about the James Perse sale today at Gilt, right?
I could totally do the 10 items only. Really, that’s close to my ideal wardrobe. The only catch is that every item would need to be perfect–perfect fabric and fit perfectly and go with everything else.
I like Gwyneth’s style, too. By the way, have you seen the Dutch brand Humanoid? I’m obsessed with everything they make. So many cool ideas, too.
And speaking of Gwyneth, her special edition clothing for GOOP is capsule-wardrobe perfect. If only I could afford that $1800 Stella McCartney jacket or the Michael Kors peacoat, I’d be all set.
Love that outfit! The olive pants really make it. I think it would work with a white T-shirt as it would mirror the white of your sneaks.
And hells bells, yes, I can wear 10 things for two weeks. I’ll join you. I’m going on a trip next week and will have to, anyway!
And Jen, thanks for the Gilt JP heads up. I hadn’t looked ahead yet but I’ll be ready to pounce!
I had almost forgotten about the JP sale today! I’m on the way home from Pure Barre though… I’ll have to stop in a parking lot and shop LOL
Also, there’s a Gilt promo — code MY20 — for 20% off.
aye, and there’s the rub. that’s what we minimalists are in search of all the time, no? the perfect _________ – and, for me, anyway, why we end up with so many of the same types of pieces (25 white t-shirts)….
LOVE humanoid. a local boutique in austin carried them and i used to drool over them every time i was in the store.
Just for new customers though–which is definitely not me 🙁
i know, right? i loved the stella jumpsuit….
ugh. thanks!! i got free shipping though, i don’t know why. and i only got the slub button-front shirt, so i got a better discount. but maybe now i can shop some more 🙂
Huh, that’s weird. I’m definitely not a new customer, but it’s been a few months since I bought anything. Maybe it’s once of those incentives for lurkers like me to finally go for it?
oh. good. me neither.
did you get anything? i got this – which is the same as my white one – which IS the perfect cotton button-front shirt. speaking of “perfect” tops…there are still some of those left, which is more than i can say about most of the other pieces.
could be! what did you get??
I really wanted the Cotton Jersey Scoopneck Tee, since it looks like it lays perfectly, but I was too late.
I’m now obsessed with the stripe midi skirt, thanks to you! Also, this is my first time commenting, but I’ve been reading your blog every day for about a year. Thanks for keeping it up; I love your taste.
I got this guy: http://www.gilt.com/sale/women/james-perse-6741/product/1043352512-james-perse-cotton-scoopneck-sleeveless-top
I wanted it in black and also wanted a couple other things, but I didn’t click fast enough/kept debating too long.
oh! keep commenting please 🙂 and thanks so much for reading.
and the striped midi skirt is wonderful, i’m going to wear it a TON this spring & summer.
and yeah, you guys are FAST on the james perse stuff when it comes up on sample sale!!
but now that i can post outlet sales too, keep your eye out for those, they usually have similar pieces and prices.
i KNOW you can wear 10 things for 2 weeks!!! if anyone can, you can 🙂
would love to see your outfits too.
I was only going to get something with my credit, but bought 3 things. But I know that everything I buy from JP gets tons of use.

I’ve been stalking the wrap top for a while, but the $200 price was just too much…and hoping that the dress works!
LOVE that sleeveless top. it looks perfect.
i tried on the new wrap top at JP last week and it is SO GOOD. i mean…better than good. but yes, the price was a bit much. i thought about getting this older version too, can’t wait to hear what you think of it.
i was also looking at the dress – you got some good things!!
and i love how so many of my posts get hijacked and turn into a discussion of james perse LOL
I just have to tell you that those sneakers are haunting me. Every time you post an outfit with them it becomes harder and harder for me not to pull the trigger…
that’s just what i was going for… **evil laugh**
just kidding 🙂
my friend tried on a nearly identical pair at steve madden this week – and they looked the same. they weren’t as cushy as mine, but she said they were comfortable… and only $99. might be worth a try? also aldo had a similar pair too…
Hmmm. A good lookalike, but I don’t know if I can bring myself to buy Steve Madden. They’re pretty much all I wore through my teenage years and I haven’t been impressed with their quality in a long time. Might just have to save up my pennies and splurge on Vince 🙂
By the way, have you seen these Ferragamos? I know you don’t really do brights, but they’re insane and I’m obsessed. Not that I’d EVER spend $400+ on something like that, but they’re fun to drool over.

i agree with you on steve madden – and aldo – i spent a lot of money both places on shoes that were pretty uncomfortable…so i don’t buy them anymore. i do think the vince sneakers are worth the splurge – they hold up so well to daily wear, and i don’t se myself EVER not having them on heavy rotation. except in the summer.
the ferragamos are beautiful! i would do that color on my feet. in fact, i’m this close to getting a dress in that color….
You should go for it! It’s such a rich color. I have two dresses in that color that are among my favorites.

There’s also a Sam Edelman version on sale at Nordstrom -$79. Not my style shoe but I love the embossed croc leather (I know I’ll mess up the link so hopefully you can fix it)

The more I look, the more options I see – there’s also a Kurt Geiger in “fuschia” (looks maroon on my screen) and Navy and who knows what else. http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/kg-kurt-geiger-londres-slip-on/3570961?origin=category&BaseUrl=Shoes
Great mix of summer & winter shoes in the Nordstrom sale, but nothing has ended up in my cart yet 😉
i’ve seen the kurt geiger ones in person, they’re nice.
What I’d really like to see is Gwyneth do the 10 item in 2 week challenge. She probably never wears the same item twice. Although, I do love it when you see celebs repeat items of clothing or shoes.
Haha! So true. I can’t tell you how many duplicates I have in my closet…all in search of the “perfect” item. I’ve even accidentally purchased the same item more than once because I forgot that I already owned it! (Well, at least my style is consistent?!?)
And the drape front shirt is perfection!
And take a look at Sam Edelman Circus- an offshoot of the main brand. I bought a pair that are very similar in style to the Vince/Steve Maddens, and wore them for the first time on an all-day shopping trip and my feet were SO comfy!
i bet there are some things she wears often, she’s just not photographed in them. i’m with you though, i love those features where they show them wearing items multiple times….
Bobbi Brown starts her day off the same way ( being a “Bobbi-ette”, I know that little tidbit????),, since it’s supposed to aid in digestion. I don’t known if that’s true or not. I love Gwyneth’s fashion features she posts periodically, but I got tired of what I read as her self-congratulatory attitude, and seeming cluelessness to how most of the world lives.
There’s a store near me that carries humanoid’s pieces, so I’ve been on a hunt ever since. A new brand for us to obsess about. Yay…..
