!iT Collective Taylor jeans (gift for review) | black version on sale at 6pm (sizes 31 & 32)
Everlane U neck tee | medium
Everlane Cashmere cardigan (gift) | large (new cashmere launching tomorrow if you’re on the waitlist!!)
Everlane Loafers (gift) | size 8, sold out
I promise I’ll stop talking about Everlane for a while, well, at least after all these “coming soon” items launch! I’m waiting patiently for the new cashmere, and the wool sweaters, and did you see the new Petra bag colors? I love them, and am trying desperately to convince myself I don’t need one. Anyway, that sweater the model is wearing on the homepage for the Petra new colors is from their wool collection, and I LOVE it.
And yesterday it was actually cool enough to wear cashmere and closed-toed shoes, yay! Actually, if it’s below 70 degrees and cloudy, it’s cool enough for me to wear cashmere and a scarf; I get very cold! I had to drop Leo off at the airport, then go exchange something at James Perse, and browse around Northpark mall (will do a shopping report tomorrow, specifically on lots of new James Perse stuff I tried on!), so yesterday was the first time I REALLY wore the Everlane loafers out for hours of walking.
I’m not going to lie, I was really happy to take them off once I got home, but as breaking in new shoes go, the whole experience wasn’t that bad. They’re narrower than I’m used to, so most of my issue was with my pinky toes getting squeezed a little. But they’ve also stretched out more, so they’ll be better next time I wear them. I didn’t get any blisters or have any issues with them slipping off my feet. I’m still very pleased with them. If you don’t have your pair already, you’ll have to get on the waitlist for the next go round since they’ve all sold out…
And although this is the first time you’ve seen me wear the u-neck tee, I’ve had it for a little more than a week, and have worn it quite a few times, washed it once. I really really love it (not as much as my James Perse casual tee), but it is big and drapey, so I could have taken a small and been fine, but this will be good for layering under crew neck or v-neck sweaters as it gets cooler. For wearing with an open cardigan, I really prefer a shorter length tee so my legs don’t look even shorter than they really are, but I was kind of going for a theme yesterday, so I went for Everlane everything!
See more Everlane reviews – and how do you like YOUR loafers? Are you as anxiously awaiting the new cashmere launch??
Happy Monday!!
Sadly, I have come to the conclusion that my size 8s are really a half size too small. I don’t think we should hav to break in a loafer like this — or, really, I guess I have given up on that. I am going to try some shoe stretch spray or maybe take them to the cobbler. I love them, just wish I had ordered a half size up.
I got them in a 10.5 so I didn’t have the option of sizing up, and they were just too narrow. I resolved myself to the fact that they probably weren’t going to stretch as much as I needed them to, so they’re on their way back :(. I did a review of them on my blog before they left me: http://madisonbowman.com/?p=91.
Every picture you post of them is killing me, though. I’m so sad they didn’t fit me; I think they’re gorgeous! I’ve loved all your Everlane reviews, but I do wish I could find a super tall Everlane reviewer! I’m 6 feet and I never have any idea how they’re stuff is going to fit me. My blog is very new, but I’m going to try to start posting tall-person reviews in case anybody out there has a similar problem!

I am kind of dying over the white Petra tote. But then I remind myself that it is white and will look terrible in a week, right?
It’s funny, I was an “early adopter” of Everlane when they just had tees, but haven’t kept much else I’ve ordered from them since. The seed stitch sweaters and short-sleeve sweatshirts looked terrible on me, the poplin shirt didn’t work, and I keep finding Equipment silk shirts on sale for less than their silk shirts and buy them instead. I love the company’s business plan and their styling, but a lot of their cuts just don’t seem to flatter me. ๐
I am extremely picky about my toes feeling pinched in the toebox, and for me, that’s something that doesn’t “break in.” As RCB said, it’s possible that you may need a half-size bigger since they are pointy.
i’m sorry…are they too short? see, my length is perfectly fine, they’re just more narrow than i’m used to, and i would consider stretching them to resolve that instead of sizing up – if I sized up, they’d be much too big.
honestly, i’d try stretching them first, but then, if they don’t work, send them back! assuming you haven’t worn them yet. or sell them on ebay if you have ๐
I typed “they’re” instead of “their”. I’m really embarrassed now.
I never tire of your Everlane reviews b/c I’m a huge fan of the company myself. Last week I ordered the backpack (a Christmas present for my friend), another v-neck tee in gray, and the Ryan tank after reading about that one here. I love all the pieces I’ve bought so far and get tons of wear from them.
i LOVE that white one. it’s sort of gray-ish though, isn’t it? does that make it better?? i don’t know, i was really drawn to it for some reason. the cypress color is also nice…
i’m with you on some of their stuff, i really love the ryan tanks and wear them constantly, but everything else is kind of ‘meh’ on me. i do like the cashmere sweater i have and this cardigan, but they’re sort of too basic for me sometimes. more classic than i want most of the time. generally for me, the sweaters/sweatshirts bunch up around the waist too much, but i still wear them ๐
thanks for your input about the toes pinching. i’m going to try and stretch them a bit and see if that helps first. it’s been a long time since i had a pointy shoe!!!
don’t be embarrassed! i can edit it if you want me to, just let me know. and i just peeked at your blog, but i can’t wait to go back and spend more time. you’re so cute ๐
I’ve had a hit and some misses at Everlane. I like their business model and love the classic styles they offer. I jumped on the chance to get a seed stitch sweater in taupe but it hasn’t lived up to the hype. The color is great and the texture divine–but the seaming isn’t straight! It puckers. OTOH, I’m pleased with the silk blouse I bought–it’s a lovely basic and the rounded collar makes it a little different.
Anyone else had problems with seams in Everlane sweaters?
I sooo wish the loafers had a bit more of an almond toe because this type of shoe is my kinda shoe ๐

Please don’t stop talking about Everlane! I like their cloths (at least online ๐ ) but I am hesitant to order because I am 5.8 with long arms and I think many tees will be too short on me, but I appreciate all reviews– I may go ahead and get Ryan tank that seems to be popular.
amy i have a seed stitch sweater from their first go round and i haven’t noticed the seams puckering. i did notice the bottom hems aren’t as ‘flat’ as before i washed it though, they do what all sweaters seem to do after washing in cold water, they become “wavy” for lack of a better term. i don’t know how else to describe it!
if you feel like it’s a quality issue, i would definitely contact them. i did that in the very beginning with the first ryan tee they produced that got a hole after wearing only once, and they recognized the defect, giving me credit for it.
oh, i’m not going to stop talking about everlane…clearly, i’m obsessed. but maybe i won’t talk about them so often as i have been lately, i just get really excited about the new arrivals ๐
i would recommend you try the u-neck shirt i’m wearing – i’m 5’3″ and it’s quite long on me – on you, it might be the perfect length! the ryan tank is a good place to start though, they’re longer, just DO NOT ACCIDENTALLY dry them. they shrink quite a bit!!!
Okay, thanks for recommendation. I will try u-neck and ryan tank. Do you have any of their long sleeve tees? I am curious about general length. Clearly, the Everlane conversation goes on ๐
good start ๐
i have the ryan long sleeve tee, and it’s sort of weird. i have substantial (but short) arms, and the tee is quite tight on my arms, and it’s drapey, so it’s long. it might work for you, actually, if you don’t have flabby arms ๐
It’s OK; I just used to teach college freshman English and I was always harping about “they’re” and “their”, so I always feel guilty when I use them wrong :). And thank you for looking at my blog, and for saying nice things! I’m new at this, and your Minimal Closet series has been revelatory (that sounds like overstatement, but really, I feel like you’re unpacking all my wardrobe-related psychological baggage.) So thank you for that :).

Sonds like it worth a try, and no flabby arms ๐ I am just trying to find good tees under $50 that will hold shape.
they’ve held up well for me, just don’t dry them!! have i mentioned that enough?? ๐
If it helps, I’m 6 feet and have monkey arms and have tried a bunch of things. I always get everything in a large for the length and the room in the shoulders, even though that often makes them too big in the body (particularly with the sweaters). The U-neck tees are not very long on me in the front but the hem is longer in the back and gives nice coverage. The length on the V-necks is actually pretty decent. They hit a little below my hips. As far as sleeve length on their long-sleeved items goes, I’ve yet to try anything that was really long enough. The seed stitch raglan seems particularly short in the arms, so I just wear mine pushed up. The arms on the boyfriend sweatshirt hit me at the wrist and I’m OK with that, as I love everything else about that shirt. The swing trench hits at my wrists, too, but that’s a pretty normal situation with me and jackets. I haven’t tried anything in the Ryan style because the neckline is a little too wide for me (what with my flatchested-ness and all), but my 5’8″ sister-in-law likes the length in both the body and the sleeves.
Anyway, sometime I’m going to blog pictures of me in these things for a length reference for tall people!

I bought the Everlane loafers in my usual size and found they squeezed my pinky toes a little, too. It wasn’t uncomfortable for wearing at my desk, so I decided to keep them and see if they stretched out enough to become walking shoes as well.
I wore them for the third time yesterday and ended up walking about 3 miles in them with no discomfort at all (I wore little hidden loafer socks) so I think they have stretched a little. I am really happy with how they look with jeans and figure 3 wears to break them in is not too bad!
My daughter is 6’1″ tall, so I understand how difficult it can be to find clothes that fit, without spending a small fortune, anyway. (I just remembered buying a prom dress for her Junior year that ended up costing more than my wedding dress!)
Your hair is gorgeous! I’ll check into your blog periodically.
Sounds like the loafers won’t work for me, as much as I wish they would. I’m a size 10.5 and wide…so, no way! But the sleekness is pretty great (that’s my “Perfect” substitute. ๐ ).
I love the cashmere cardi on you, but it surprises me that they sent you a L. Was that by request? I’m still wondering about the sizing issue…was this the post you had mentioned about tackling Everlane’s sizing issues?
No loafers, but I am liking the Vince slipons:). And BTW, I thought upon seeing this photo that that t-shirt really, really suits you. The U-neck is a great line on you.

thanks lisa! so glad you love your vince slip-ons ๐ they’re my favorite!!
i love a great u-neck tee, that’s why the james perse casual tee is my go-to – i think it’s my most flattering neckline. hard to find though!
i asked for a large – i didn’t feel like the medium was slouchy enough (i bought a black one in medium and never loved it). i stand FIRM on my opinion that everything everlane seems to run a size large. but then again, i am not tall, nor do i have a chest at all. i honestly think they’re larges are more like extra large, or at least a 12.
Therein lies the problem, I’m borderline with their large since I wear a 14. And the cardigan looks really great on you and you’re a 6-8, right? I still think they need to add a size XL….IMO.
i guess i’m a 6-8, i have no idea anymore. my size really varies across brands anymore…
it’s funny, because i turned one of the (male) SAs at james perse on to everlane and he said the men’s stuff seems to run small.
i was going to suggest you try one of the men’s cashmere sweaters (i REALLY love the hoodie!) –
I’ve been thinking about doing that! Good idea. ๐
I’ve noticed the arm-thing w/the LS Ryan shirts too. In fact, was wearing my gray one yesterday and noticed that the arms felt tighter and were shorter than when i originally purchased them. I wash this in cold delicate cycle and always hang dry, so i’m wondering if even washing in delicate cycle will cause some shrinkage?? I have a black LS Ryan one as well and took it out for comparison and it still fits loosely the same as when i first got it. I have not yet washed the black one. So yea, be careful for shrinkage on the Ryan line.
