Everlane poplin sleeveless shirt | $45 at Everlane, size medium
Frame Le Garcon jeans | size 29
Birkenstock Arizona Sandals
Lizzie Fortunato jewels necklace | old
I got this Everlane poplin sleeveless shirt last week (forgot to include it in the “what I bought” section of my Week in Review, oops!), but haven’t worn it yet. Honestly, I’m trying to decide if it’s too big for me. I ordered a size medium, which is my “normal” Everlane (and everything else) size, but lately, it seems like I should be ordering smalls. Which is weird, and somehow I can’t bring myself to do, because I am not small.
The shirt is supposed to be swing-y, which obviously, it is, but not too much I don’t think. The only place I’m really concerned about it being too big is in the arm holes; they’re big, and at a certain angle, you can catch a glimpse of my bra. If I keep this, I’ll probably wear a “fancier” bra underneath, or one that doesn’t look so much like a bra, to avoid the feeling that I’m flashing my bra. Or something like that.
I don’t know. I’m torn on whether or not I should exchange this for a small or not. If I get a small, it will fit better around the shoulders, arms, and torso, and not be so big around my waist, which I think is a good thing. If I stick with the medium, I’ll have more “room” and it’ll be nice and breezy for summer. As I think more about it, I’m thinking I’ll go with the small. But then again, will it REALLY make that much of a difference?
Ultimately, I will reiterate my opinion that Everlane’s sizing runs slightly big; this top would fit someone who’s a size 10-12 with a chest very well. I guess I’m a 6-8 with a barely-there-chest, for reference. And lately, all the mediums I’ve purchased from Everlane have been running a bit big.
Who else has this top? What did you do about sizing?
Hi! Love this shirt on you. Your post got me interested in the Everlane silk tanks again. I haven’t bought one because it says dry clean only. Do you handwash yours, and if so, are you happy with how they come out?
Thanks!
thanks liz! i actually haven’t washed my silk tank yet, but i was planning on washing it with my light colored items on cold, then hanging to dry. miss sophie posted on this subject recently, with comments specifically on cleaning everlane silk – seems like the consensus is hand washing and line drying works well…(for me, hand washing = machine washing on the delicate cycle)
I’ve been pondering one of these tops to wear under a jacket to the office. Good to know on the sizing; I’ll try the XS.
Thanks for the helpful link!
I think you look fantastic in this top! It’s exactly the kind of top that I’d love for Summer, but I’m so Leary of sleeveless except for wearing around the house. You look tan and adorable. It’s hard to tell from the pics, because I can’t tell if the armholes look too big. I love the “swinginess” of it and I think that’s part of it’s charm. But you’re the best judge of size on you. If it helps at all, it looks good on your shoulders, and you still look slim in it!
Love these photos, like the size it is. Little piece of information – I didn’t Like this on Instagram because I’m in revolt against iliketit or however they spell it, but I TOTALLY liked it:).
I don’t think it’s coming across too big in the photos, it looks like it fits you similarly to the photos on the model. It looks short though. Is it? I’ve found the length to be really inconsistent so far with Everlane. I only have two Ryan tees, so I don’t have a big sampling, but the long sleeve tee is really long and the short sleeve is too short imo.
thanks for your feedback, lisa 🙂
it’s short, but not cropped. i can tuck it in if i want to (but i don’t normally like to tuck). it’s actually a pretty good length for me, where most things are too long – my long sleeve ryan tee is a little longer than my short sleeve tee also, but my short sleeve ryan tee is definitely not too short; it’s a good length 😉
i think i’ll stick with it, but remember to try and go for smalls from now on…
it’s a matter of “would a small look BETTER on me?” and i think that it would, but i don’t think the medium looks BAD by any means..
