I knew the minute I took my Everlane linen tee out of the wash to hang it up and dry it had shrunk. Not a lot, but still noticeably. And now I like it BETTER. The sleeves are a bit shorter, the body is shorter, and it’s not quite so big all around. I should have thought to measure it first, before I washed it, but I didn’t, so I can only estimate that it shrunk about an inch all around. Sounds right to me…
I’ll try to make it a point to measure my other two pieces before I wash them, but I won’t be sorry if those shrink either. I might have been if they were size small to begin with though. Incidentally, I did order a few other linen tees/tanks in size small to try, so we’ll see how those turn out after washing also.
This is what I wore to get my temporary crown fitted yesterday after my root canal on Monday; it was basically like I was wearing pajamas. Just the way I like to feel at the dentist with all sorts of fingers and utensils poking around in my mouth. Ugh.
Have you washed your new Everlane linen yet? how did it turn out?
Oh, and speaking of Everlane, there are a few new Everlane consignment pieces up at slowre this week 🙂
Happy Friday!!!!
Hi Grechen,
I have yet to order anything from Everlane but I’m getting closer and closer. I love how you describe the fit. I’m still conflicted. I’m not as tall or thin as the models on Everlane’s site, but I am 5’8″ and tend to wear a 28 in pants and a small/medium on top. I’m unsure whether to go for the small or medium in their sizing. Do you have a suggestion?
Sorry about the root canal! At least you look styling and comfortable…
Dawn
hi dawn! i’m torn too! whether to tell you to get a small or medium 😉 do you have a shirt you really love that fits you where you’d want it to hit? maybe the best thing to do is measure that one, and compare it with everlane’s sizing – not forgetting to account for shrinkage. (ugh, can’t help but think of that seinfeld episode every time i say that!!)
since you’re taller, you might like the medium better, since it’s longer, but you’re also smaller around than i am, and mediums are always too big on me lately.
maybe someone else around your size/height will have some input for you!!
I just scrolled over to your resale shop and am heartbroken that the Dannijo necklace sold! I loved that necklace when you wore it. I remember it from years past on some of your outfits. I guess I will need to pay more attention to the site from now on!
Dawn,
I’m 5’8″ and wear a 28 in jeans too–on top I’m small, a 32c. I always order a small in Everlane tops and sweaters. Sometimes even an xs (anything rayon or super loose looking on the model). The linen tops though with the side slit I’ve ordered in a small as my torso is long. Incidentally my new linen tanks shrank too just in the washer but the sizing is still fine on me.
OK, OK. On the to do list – try out Everlane.
Always need new t-shirts in summer anyway. Or that’s what I will tell myself. Maybe I will finally get to Dress Like Grechen;).
I just sent back my medium linen tee (gray, scoop neck) for a small, and now I’m wondering if I should’ve kept it. I definitely want it to be a little looser, and love the medium tucked into jeans, but if I lean over you can see everything and I hate wearing camis in the summer. Sigh. I’ll wait and see what the small is like this week! I will definitely wash it before I commit to other colors (I really want the striped one too). I will say that I love the feel of the material and the way it lays, I feel fabulous in it! Also, I finally broke down and got Birks based on your advice and LOVE them so much! 🙂
Thanks everybody for your suggestions. Grechen, measuring something I already own is the most practical solution. I’ll keep you posted on my quest….
Hey! I’m shorter than you by an inch, but around the same measurements. If you have broad shoulders, then maybe I’d go with the mediums, but honestly, most of their stuff runs a bit bigger than I prefer, so I waffle between small (in v-necks and blouses) and extra small (in u-necks and anything labeled “oversized” – they give very precise garment measurements, too, so you should be able to refer to that before purchasing). Most of the tops are cut long (the u-neck is the only one cut a little short in front), so I would bet the small would fit you best in most things. So far, I have only sized up in their new crew neck cut, because it’s cut very close to the body.
I washed my Linen Scoop-Neck by hand* and it only shrunk a tiny bit. More importantly, it didn’t loose its shape (I’m talking to you, Madewell). Hence I ordered three more.
*I washed it like I do with all my silk stuff: wringing some of the water out (with the silk more carefully, with the linen less so), then placing in on big towel, rolling up the towel and walking around on it, unrolling the towel and putting the nearly-dry tee on a hanger. Done.
um, i love your detailed washing instructions 🙂
what detergent do you use though?
i just got my linen scoop neck in small, black, and i’m not crazy about it – i think i prefer the v-neck. the scoop is REALLY wide!
i also got the tank top, which i like a lot, but it’s more fitted at the hips in the size small. ugh. need some consistency
Hi,
Did small fit you,too?
Could you take a picture,plz?
This is my first time to buy everlane,
and i am so confused of the sizechart!
Thanks a lot!
i liked the fit of the small muscle tank a lot – it fits though, but not FITTED. not loose either, just right.
i did not like the fit of the scoop neck linen tee – the scoop is too wide and open and the fit was still very oversized.
i will try to get a picture up, but honestly with these pieces, i think it’s very much trial and error, and being aware that the size changes a little bit with washing….
