So, here’s the third way I’ve worn the Everlane cropped cashmere sweater. I think in this example you can see more what I mean about how the sweater doesn’t drape very well in the back, and thus “sticks” more to whatever layer I’m wearing underneath.
Perhaps if I got the medium it would drape better in the back, but then it would probably also be too long in the arms, and droopy at the shoulders and not fit like I want it to – like a TRUE cropped sweater. As it is, I don’t really mind it like this, slightly clingy. I personally like this sweater best with my first outfit, the Kit & Ace pants, and will probably wear it most often with those, or over one of my long fitted JP dresses. With those things, there’s no clingy-ness with the sweater – it fits beautifully as-is.
That said, I do think I’d like to try the medium anyway, just to see how it fits. It may be that it’s just a little more drapey in the back without being much too big at the shoulders or in the arms, or NOT cropped anymore; I won’t know until I try. And it’ll give me a chance to try the burgundy color…
We’ll see.
I think I have these pants. Do they have a semi-wide elastic waistband? I’ve had the worst time with mine. The waistband folded in half and I’ve had a ridiculous amount of piling. Then somehow it looks like the stretchy fabric “broke” in the calf, even though they aren’t fitted there. The elastic has come apart so it has these little threads sticking out. I’ve loved all my other EF pieces, so I was pretty surprised with the quality.
I am totally enjoying your No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 looks for one particular piece. Very helpful! I would love you to do more! I have subscribed to your belief that an item is only purposeful if it can be worn many different ways or for different venues. {Or at least that’s the take home message for me.} How many times have I purchased a shirt, etc. and only figured out how to wear it one way? Very frustrating.
BTW, I think of you when I cruise the Nordstrom Rack website; right now they have harem pants on sale for $55. I love that site for EF but you have to be patient…not my strongest quality!
i wonder if they’re a different pair? how much were they? i tried on a very similar pair that was $118, even bought them, then took them back because i just KNEW they were going to pill horribly. i have not had any problems at all with these pants, but i don’t wash them often either (and never dry them), wearing them a few times before…
the waistband is narrow, but i know what you mean about the waistband folding in half – i’ve had that happen before with things if they’re not sewn down. what i do now if the waistband isn’t secured inside is do it myself. i did that with a JP skirt and it works!
Great outfit – chic and flattering. You look fit!
This is probably how I plan to try mine out first when it arrives (today, allegedly), with a white shirt under. I’m preparing myself to be disappointed because I got the medium and I’m sure the proportions will just be wrong on me. I’m envisioning too short in the body with too-long sleeves. Maybe I’ll be happily surprised, though.
The black-and-white contrast is great. I’ll always love that combo.
Aaargh! No size medium in the EF sale. I’ve been waiting all summer for these to go on sale since you reviewed them a few months ago. Grrrrr.
here julia!! they’re price matching bloomies (click “bloomies”!!) – they’re offering 25% off for f&f. i see a medium there…except it’s “on order”…
I’ve gotta say, I’m LOVING this look on you! You look so freakin’ stylish! I know it’s probably [definitely] not as comfy, but I love the graphic look.
Agreed, Juli!
Thanks! I didn’t see a Bloomies link, so I just followed your link. There IS a M, but it’s $138… not on sale…unless I’m missing something? Thanks for your help. 🙂
they’re doing 25% off with code HOLIDAY…
Done! Sold! I don’t know how you knew that, but that’s why you’re the professional style blogger and I’m not. 🙂
Well the medium fits me ok. I don’t love the shape on me, though. It poofs too much just before the hem. But I’ll sleep on it before deciding whether to return.
I also got a cashmere v neck in gray, which is way too large, so that’s definitely going back. I may exchange for small. Not sure if really like it enough. The quality seems nice but the cut just doesn’t thrill me.
I feel like you are doing that thing I often find myself doing where I’ve been really lusting after something and then bought only to discover it wasn’t really what i was wanting, but also not that bad?and then I convince myself to keep it instead of exchanging it for another size or just admitting that even in another size it wasn’t as good as what I wanted it to be. Just food for thought. Everlanes cashmere does rock but it sounds like what you really wanted was something that draped elegantly and it doesn’t seem like their cropped sweaters are doing that as much as they’ve styled them to appear on their website.
You look great .. really svelte.
I know you like slouchy, but these more fitted black on black outfits look great on you.

yes, i am sort of doing that. but i also know that i won’t be able to find something “perfect” within my price range right now. i will try the medium and see if that works, adds a little more drape, without being too big, but i also don’t think that “good enough” is terrible. it’s complicated though 😉
it’s super-comfortable, just a little more “fussy” because of the layer underneath – always messing with it…
i love the graphic look too. just have to be in the mood LOL
Thanks so much for posting all of these everlane reviews! I thought I would chime in with my experience with the size medium cropped cashmere. I am thinner than you (I’m usually an xxs in elieen fisher, james perse 1, etc.) and 5’4″, but I worry if I had gone smaller it would have been too short to ever wear unlayered. The back drapes nicely, and the arms/shoulders work well being a little oversized because of the way the seams fall. I think the small would have fit me the way it fits the models. Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, I also got the chunky cardigan in an XS, and it is perfectly oversized.
It seems like there might not be a ton of difference between each size in some everlane stuff–which works fine for those of us who can fit within the range, but it means a lot of people must be out of luck at the higher end.
you’re convincing me to order the medium cropped cashmere! i had wanted something lighter in color, and cropped, so i think that would be a good option. the small is just too cropped i think…
