Here’s another way I’ve worn Everlane’s cropped cashmere sweater (size small). I like it a little bit less this way than just with my charcoal Kit & Ace pants, but it still works. As I mentioned in my original post, because I chose to get this sweater in the size small, it’s a bit more of a challenge to layer. It fits very well on it’s own, and even layered over a light shirt, but because it FITS, it doesn’t drape as loosely as I prefer – it sort of causes the layer underneath to bunch up.
Not a problem, really, and maybe that wouldn’t bother you, but it does make the sweater just a little less versatile for me; it’s not something I can travel with, for example, because it’s not a style I would just throw on with everything, you know?
Anyway, I’m still very pleased with Everlane’s cashmere this season – it’s one of the things I think they do very well…
It doesn’t look bunchy at all in the photos! I am still waiting on my medium in bergundy and hoping I don’t regret exchanging the small, which fit really nicely, but I wanted something a tad more flowy, i think. I will let you know. I really must say that shipping at everlane has become SO slow – it’s pretty frustrating that things take almost a full week after the label is created to arrive on the east coast.
I love the new proportion on you. I think for layering a slightly shorter and darker top under might work better than the white.
Have you tried the sweater over one of your long dresses?? That might work well!
it’s harder to see in the photos. probably very hard to notice anyway, but not to me. you know how that is 😉
i agree completely on the new shipping – given their super-fast shipping back in the early days, it’s glacial! but i guess i’ve been ordering more from places that take longer to ship lately (a few of the garmentory shops i’ve ordered from are in canada, and it takes a week), so i’m getting a little more patient !!
thanks mimi! i always like the contrast of the white as a layer, but charcoal gray would be nice.
i have tried it over my long dresses and it’s just okay for me. again, this is where the fact that the sweater FITS is a “problem” – i guess over a fitted dress, i’d prefer that the sweater be more boxy and slightly more drapey (while still being cropped), and this one definitely is not…
Very cute and no bunching apparent in the photos – love this sweater on you! And want the burgundy for me!
Did they switch to SmartPost all over the country? I’m in Chicago, Everlane’s packages origin 30 miles outside of Chicago, and it takes four days from order to delivery. In Seattle, most things arrived from Colorado – within two days! But that was Priority.
I received the cropped cashmeres in burgundy today. I ordered two sizes: the smaller one being shorter in the front, the bigger one has a bit more drape. They are fine and all, but they just don’t excite me. I don’t know, I’m being really picky lately.
I’ll give this one a try. I like the color: http://www.stories.com/us/Ready-to-wear/Knitwear/Cashmere_Sweater/582940-100516473.1
I think it’s great to be picky about your clothing! Everlane isn’t cheap (no cashmere is, except maybe Uniqlo on sale) and while I don’t subscribe to the theory that everything has to give me “joy” or whatever it was (yes, I’m the single person on the planet who does not like Marie Kondo and her book or her theories 😉 But I work hard for my money and I don’t want to waste it – I want to spend it on the *right* things. I hope you find the sweaters you really love!
Thanks! And I’ll let you know the moment I do! 🙂
I think the whole idea of a cropped sweater is so that you can layer it, unless you’re 18 and want to show some skin. With that said, it should have enough room for the shirt underneath to lay just so and not bunch up. For your sweater to “fit” just means its probably not the right size for you. It should hang away somewhat from your body and it doesn’t look that way from your photos (it just looks like it shrank lengthwise). You should exchange the small for a medium (which is really only an inch difference around the chest but will give you a better fit, i think). I’m probably about your size on top (36A/34.5″ around chest, size 6 top and bottom) and still default to a size medium unless the top is really oversized. The only drawback for you may be the sleeve length (I’m 5’8″ so I don’t have that problem). This might be your chance to get it in the burgundy!

yes, i think they did. everlane used USPS priority mail in the beginning, but switched some time ago. now it takes a week to get anything…
i LOVE that & other stories sweater – it looks like it has great drape, and the color is amazing. let us know what you think of it!
(agree that you shouldn’t settle – it’s good to be picky about your clothes. i’m trying to be even MORE picky too, but it’s hard sometimes!)
haha! yes, it’s “sparking joy” – my problem is sometimes how do you tell what the “right” thing is? or why you love something? is it simply because it fits? (like with me lately, since I lost weight, i seem to fall in love with anything that FITS) or is it because it looks amazing on you? or is it because it just feels “right”? i still struggle with all of this. and unfortunately, something i might think i love at first, i don’t after a while.
so, i’m still trying to find that sweet spot, and be more picky about my clothes. for some reason it seems harder and harder instead of easier lately…ugh.
I like this look with the jeans the best, although maybe the jeans and a different pair of shoes. 🙂 That way it would have a polished but casual vibe.
Funny you should say that, because my first thought was, “Oh, this is the most ‘Grechen’ looking!” And I really love it this way, I guess because I’m such a fan of layering something longer under something shortish. Cute! Did you order burgundy?!?
Cute sweater, Alex!
i didn’t order the burgundy, i don’t think i will either. i’m going on a clothes-shopping hiatus for a while. but more on that later 😉
