In honor of the new Everlane cashmere tunic (I WANT), I thought I’d pull out my Everlane cashmere cardigan for a run around – and I wanted to do black & blue today, I also wanted to do oversized and so-comfortable-it-hardly-feels-like-I’m-wearing-anything. Done! π
I may have given Everlane a bad rap recently when I mentioned my disappointment in the Ryan tee I have. I’m still not a huge fan of the tee (it slides off my shoulders, and is a weird length on me), but I do love the Ryan tanks. I have a white one and a black one, and they’re really great for layering. I wish they were longer so I could wear them comfortably with leggings, but even the size large isn’t long enough for that. I do LOVE the drape and the feel of the material though, and appreciate that the straps are wide enough to cover my bra straps AND that they stay on my shoulders.
I haven’t worn the cashmere pieces I have much (this cardigan and a basic crew neck) since I got them late in the season earlier this year, and it was much too warm for them at that point. They’re very basic, and I do wish the cardigan was a bit longer – again, to wear with leggings – but I did get a size medium, so perhaps a large would work better. I do like that it’s slouchy without being too oversized though; you can’t have everything!! Anyway, since I haven’t worn the cashmere a lot, I can’t really speak to the longevity or quality over time, but I quite appreciate the price…so I do recommend them. They’re not Inhabit NY, but for 1/3 the price, I’ll take it for basics.
Overall, I still have high regard for Everlane; I appreciate their stand on transparency, and that most items are made in the US, or at least in factories they visit and inspect for working standards. The prices are fair, you can’t beat their basic tees for $15 (I have lots of those), and I’ve found their customer service to be very good. Not everything is perfect, but they generally acknowledge when an item needs improvement, and try and fix it. I look forward to continuing to watch their evolution.
I know a lot of you guys have Everlane pieces, do you still like them? What have you tried?
Hi Grechen, I’m glad you posted about a cardigan today. I’ve been trying to find a long black, warm cardigan (roughly up to the knees) and I’m having trouble finding one that isn’t the shawl-type cardi. Uniqlo had one for a great price too but I’m unsure of their quality as this is an item that would get a lot of wear, do you have any suggestions?
I don’t own any Everlane pieces yet. (Gasp!) I just don’t know what to buy, but the cashmere tunic is tempting.
do you have a price range? i can try to put together some recommendations for you in a post!
I have an Everlane basic T, which is very good, and a terry sweatshirt, which is also very good. I see they don’t sell the sweatshirts anymore, which is too bad because I was hoping they’d come out with a V-neck instead of the crew I have.
I am absolutely drooling over the Scottish cashmere stole. I think it would be perfect for winter at home and for winter travel. And just today I was drooling over the new slouchy cashmere cardis so your endorsement of their cashmere is timely. I still have $90 in credit at Everlane (and free shipping for life) so I should get something!
Many thanks Grechen! Anywhere under $150 would be good.
I love this casual, yet very put together outfit on you! That’s my uniform, in a nutshell (but usually jeans) Pants are a sore point for me right now. I can’t seem to find a fit I like, the EXACT right length, or price. Picky, picky!!
And I haven’t purchased from Everlane. It might sound silly, but in spite of what you all say about their tops being oversized, I still feel left-out by their sizing chart. So I won’t buy!
I really love the new tunic style but dang it all Everlane, how about a crewneck?
I feel the same way you do about Everlane – they have made a couple mistakes with my orders and one of my tees was a disappointment, BUT, they are always very willing to admit and correct errors, so I definitely still have trust in them as a company.
Mamavalveeta, You’re not being picky, you’re being a consumer. It comes back to my thoughts on seeking clothing perfection. I don’t think it’s too much to ask designers to make the “perfect” pants in terms of fit, length, and price. The problem is not us, it’s the fashion industry that doesn’t try to meet our needs. I really don’t think I’m being unreasonable in seeking, say, a winter blazer that actually has full-length (not 3/4) sleeves and pockets that open and aren’t just decorative.
Coming back to Everlane, they have some awesome accessories (many made in the USA) at excellent prices. (I have one of their tote bags.) Have you considered giving those a try, even though their clothes aren’t for you?
Laurel, I completely forgot about the “Weekender” duffel that I bought from Everlane! I do love that, although, it could only be better with a shoulder strap (as I found when I was lugging it through O’Hare!!). I love the quality of it and the look!
That’s great to know. I may have a bit of a luggage habit, so I’m trying not to buy any more bags. But if I’m in the market for one, I will definitely consider the Weekender!
I love the quality of uniqlo, specially for the price. I have many heattech items, a pair of jeans, chinos, and a shirtdress. I’ve tried a knit too and while I liked it alot, I sent it back since I didn’t need it (though while inexpensive, I still have to count my pennies). If you can find a style and fit that works for you, I don’t think you’d be disapointed.
Hello! I just wanted to ask if you were wearing anything underneath your white Ryan tank. I just received mine today and the sheerness shocked me – I had used your post originally as reference for its opacity π Thanks!
Hi Jane. No, I never wear anything under my Ryan tanks. Other than a bra that is π
But generally I don’t mind sheerness – although I don’t find them to be very sheer in comparison with other tops…
Thank you so much for your reply! It’s odd because my skin tone is roughly similar to yours, and my white Ryan tank is sheer enough for me to sort of “see” the skin underneath, which doesn’t appear to be the case at all with yours … Thanks again!!
