Elizabeth Suzann Marlena Midi dress in raw silk (gift for review) | size medium
Birkenstock Arizona Sandals | several years old
Don’t get too excited, I’m not starting my “10-item Summer (capsule) wardrobe” experiment yet. I just wanted to FINALLY wear this dress yesterday since it was up in the low 90’s. I know, right? Luckily that was just a spike and temps are back down to the mid-80’s for a while, but man…it was hot. AND, as was out running around yesterday, I contemplated my pretend capsule wardrobe for summer and thought of some amendments.
First, I can’t imagine wearing my Elizabeth Suzann silk pants in 90+ degrees. I will actually try it, just to see, but the thought of it just makes me hot. And I have upper thigh rub, which I can’t imagine will be “pretty” in silk pants. Just saying.
So IF I was going to do this capsule, I’d probably remove the silk pants and replace them with another dress (maybe my Shaina Mote tie dress?) or another top – like my Everlane sleeveless linen top.
Also, I forgot how sweaty and yucky I feel after running around in the heat, which means it’s not possible to wear things as often as I’d like to before washing. I will try and extend things by spraying them with febreeze or something, but laundry is another thing to consider when creating a summer wardrobe.
I’m still having fun thinking about it though, and the idea of challenging myself to do it is sort of thrilling 🙂
Oh, and in case you were under the impression that I’m a “fashion blogger,” I present to you yet another real outfit at the end of a day. I’m in between manicures (I do them myself, but give my fingernails some time to breathe in between), and my hair is rather disheveled after photos, errands, adding new items to SLOWRE, etc. But, this is real life, not just the internet…
Happy Wednesday!!!
Grechen, just wanted to tell you that I bought this dress yesterday (!) and am so excited and can’t wait to get it! Your review on it last month was so inviting and made me put this dress on my list of pieces to buy for summer. I envision getting lots of wear out of it, both in a casual and more dressed up look.
Grechen, can you remind me what size you are wearing?
medium 🙂
i tried the small also, but it was quite tight under the arms/bust
Hmmm … You’re making me question my decision to order the silk Florence pants instead of linen. Well, since I’m often in air-conditioned offices or trains, maybe they’ll work out. I thought they might be a better “year-round” option than the linen, which screams “summer” to me. It’s still chilly here but by the time the pants arrive it’ll probably be very warm – hot, even – so I hope I’ll get some use out of them before September rolls around. I’m a little worried too about tightness in the waist, based on a comment in yesterday’s thread. I’m so impatient …
oh, i think silk is the best option for year-round/travel/etc. – linen is an exclusively summer fabric for me.
honestly, i think they’ll be fine, and i’m going to wear them today to test them out for you 😉 – i think it’s just that i’d rather not wear pants when it’s hot at all, i really tend to stick more with dresses & skirts in summer. i don’t even wear shorts much…
Oh and you look super-pretty in the dress. The lighting in the second photo is dreamy.
I tend to not wear fitted pants or jeans in summer. I’m hoping these can be a happy medium. Looking forward to hear how you feel about them on your test 🙂
I love this dress on you (and on me)!
I have the shorter version of this dress and the previous version (Vera in silk crepe). I anticipate wearing them all summer long and they will definitely be in my bag for my two-week trip to France in July! As I work in an over-air conditioned office I anticipate comfortably wearing the silk Florence pants during the summer but I will report back.
An update to the Clyde pants… I did send back the short length ones and am awaiting the regular. I shouldn’t have second guessed myself since the Florence and Cecilia pants both work for me in the regular length. Oh well!
Okay so you can feel the waistband but I don’t find it tight really. Given that I’m not used to a waistband at all, I notice it, but it doesn’t bother me at all. And honestly depending on the day I don’t notice it at all…
I was thinking how very pretty this dress looks on you, and how you have that “Texas glow” in your cheeks! (If you’re wearing NO makeup, well…that’s just not fair!) I’m thinking I want this shape of dress, but in linen. A linen I can wash, in particular. I’ve been scoping out etsy and think I have it narrowed down. Black, of course!
i didn’t know there was such a thing as texas glow LOL – i am wearing cc cream, some nars orgasm blush (that MUST be it!! ) and mascara…
let us know what you find!
Haha! 🙂
