Eileen Fisher organic cotton tee (gift from my father for my birthday!)
Ganni Bluebell overalls
Elizabeth Suzann Clyde trench (small)
Dansko clogs
Nothing is as it seems.
Photographs of outfits look different than the way they look in real life. Angles, lighting, where you put your arms, how your head tilts to the side, or looks straight ahead…
Sometimes when I look in the mirror at an outfit I love it, then I take a photo or two, or three, or four, and I start to think. Is what I see in the mirror “true”? or what I see in photographs?
Does it matter??
No. Of course not. Not in this context anyway. Those perceptions of “reality” matter more in interpersonal relationships – when we interact with each other superficially, through a screen. What is real? What is augmented? What is completely false? I just try now to be cautious with all my interpretations, both of myself, and of others.
Anyway, I am wearing the same Eileen Fisher tee I wore yesterday, and finding that I want to wear the Clyde trench more and more; it’s surprisingly versatile. I’m so glad I decided to get it.
Okay! Sold on the Clyde trench for Christmas! Now…Navy or Clay? ARGH. Thank you for the great comments!
I’m considering the EF long sleeve tee. Did you take your usual EF size? Online reviews say it runs small.
I feel you with the comparisons of photos and real-life! I love the look of oversized pieces in person – you can better appreciate the movement and drape of the garment – but after looking at some candids it really makes me think twice about wearing oversized garments while traveling!
I also think a lot of that has to do with where the camera is positioned (often lower or higher) vs. where our heads are positioned (on top of our body!) when we look in the mirror. I’m just really glad no one else sees me at the angle I appear when I accidentally open the front-facing camera on my phone!
I’m wearing the small. I have the elbow length version in an xs and i think xs is my “true” Ef size. Maybe. Ha.
I think the tee is bigger on me than I’d like though. But my experience with the xs is that it’s too small on me at the upper arms/shoulders which is why I took the small.
I wouldn’t say that this tee runs small though …that’s interesting they say so.
That’s easy for me. Clay!! Only because I really would never choose navy for myself…. the clay really goes with everything.
Thanks!! My EF size is small but in most other brands I wear a M or 8.
Maybe I’ll try a small first?
i would try a small first, yes.
i’ve also found that it stretched a little with wear FYI
I love posts like these.
This is why I will always read your blog.
Gah! The clay color looks so good here! Is this photo of the color the most accurate representation? The color on the ES website and in a lot of insta photos can look so washed out and dull looking even when new. I know the color will eventually fade with washing but if it starts out looking as saturated as it does in your photo, I might have to give it a go! ?
I think this is pretty accurate…it’s definitely not dull or washed out irl. Of course I haven’t washed it yet. I love this color. It’s pretty vibrant for being basically brown lol
