Admnoish leather bag | coming soon
Fridays are for random-ness around here lately, so here goes…
The pants: I know, I said I was going to wait until fall to get these, but I couldn’t. True to form, I wanted to just get them and be “done” thinking about getting them, you know? And I thought they would be a great travel pant for next month’s trip to FL. AND, I can even see myself wearing them to one of the millions of Bar Mitzvah events that weekend. So, I did it. Truthfully, I haven’t worn them out yet, because I just can’t in this heat, but I have spent many an hour (yes, really) trying them on at home with EVERY single thing I own, and I can’t wait until I CAN wear them more often. They are phenomenal. (I’m not actually wearing the shoes either, because whoa, 102 degrees!! but I wanted to show them on because they’re still on sale in a few sizes for under $200 at http://totokaelo.com/robert-clergerie/naloh/black/L10CD9. I’m wearing my normal RC size – 38.5/8 – and think they run a teeny bit big, but not enough to change sizes)
But you know how you’ll get one thing and then have to get another thing to go with that one thing you just got? Yeah. As soon as I got the pants, I wanted to get a nice silk tunic top to go with them, to layer with sweaters for fall, or just wear alone right now. Of course, it didn’t help that one of the sales associates at Eileen Fisher was wearing her pants with this new silk tunic and looked SO freaking cute.
I spent some time shopping around online for a silk top when I got home, because that’s what I do, and found some good options, even trying the Nordstrom anniversary sale again, but left my cart stranded…

I even tried so hard to buy something during the sale (which ends this weekend), because you know, can’t leave a “deal” behind, but I couldn’t. There’s just nothing exciting or interesting enough for me to spend money on right now. Not even a bra and panties. Hmmm..maybe I’m becoming immune to the call of the sale?? I hope! Have you made several anniversary sale purchases? Any? How did they turn out?
Anyway, beside the fact that I’m out of spending money for the time-being (I sold A LOT of things to be able to purchase what I have recently…) I’d rather work with what I already have in my closet, so I am going to wear this old Madewell top – which used to be a dress until I dried it – for now. It’s not really ideal, but it’s good enough for now. Actually…I wonder if I can dye it black?? Then it would be MUCH better LOL.
Speaking of working with what you have, Sally from Already Pretty wrote to me recently after seeing The True Cost and asked me what to do with some pieces she owns and loves but wasn’t so excited about wearing after learning more about the working conditions in factories where they might have been made. I dedicated a post over at GrechenReiter.com to my answer, but I’ll just tell you that it does not involve throwing everything out and starting over…
Finally, I told my friend at Admonish I wasn’t going to post any pictures with my new bag until he had them up on the site to sell, but I couldn’t resist. I’m obsessed. It’s so simple, but miraculous. I’ve never carried a bag I literally don’t feel like I’m carrying. But I’ll talk more about that later when you can see more details and actually BUY the bag. Sorry!!
Happy Friday everyone!! Who’s ready for August??
So glad you were able to get the pants!
I love that “tunic” on you! And good job for trying to make what you have work. 😉
thanks dacy! i need to do better at that, definitely – but i think with tailoring, maybe some dying, etc., i should be able to make a lot more things work than i think…
That bag is so lovely. I really like the grey leather pieces they have listed. Can’t wait to see it on the Admonish site.
Remarkably, I haven’t bought anything at the Nordstrom sale yet. My skin has made me feel old lately and I thought about revisiting the Clarisonic which I had sworn off before. Nordstrom has it on sale. I thought I could sell some items on eBay to cover the cost but am having absolutely NO luck. I can’t get rid of my new James Perse stuff for $30. I had had a bunch of Inhabit sweaters listed for $8.99 for several runs with no interest. I used to use the possibility of reselling as an excuse for buying risky things. This seems to have backfired. I may have to hold out on the Clarisonic unless someone convincingly raves about it.
But doesn’t it sort of fit into the “Grechen color scheme”?!? 😉
Totes…they get me every time! And so did the slouchy pants. I found them on-sale at Macy’s and decided that I’ve spent too much time and energy trying to find a “Val Version” of the black track pant. This is it! Wearing them tomorrow to church with my Vince Orson sandals and a white tee, plus my etsy necklace that always gets comments. Thx for the tip!
which slouchy pants did you get?? yay!! want to see pictures 🙂
haha! yes, but…i always wish it were black, or white, or REAL gray when i wear it…you know? it just sort of throws me off, that’s all 🙂
i’ll write more about the bag this week, but it is AMAZING. mine is a nice gray/black actually, although it’s very hard to see the nuance in photos.
ebay is crappy right now i think. i didn’t get much for my rachel comey wedges, although even brand new , they’re on sale so low that i didn’t expect much for them…i would hang on to things maybe? which JP stuff were you trying to sell? and what inhabit? i don’t mind if you want to post your ebay user name this one time – if you still have things for sale that readers might be interested in…
(don’t anybody get any ideas though LOL and start posting eBay usernames willy nilly)
I got these: http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/eileen-fisher-slouchy-pull-on-pants
I’m a bit surprised that they aren’t “slouchier” (That isn’t a word!) especially for Eileen Fisher garment sizing. But I felt good in them today…not too heavy weight….not too baggy…and they didn’t bag-out or stretch while I was wearing them. I’m pleased with the quality, overall.
Sorry! No pics today…it was too hot and humid, and the migraine did me in!
