My attempt at styling a dress over pants. Or jeans, actually, because I don’t have any cropped ankle length pants, that are still moderately fitted. Both my Hope trousers and Black Crane pants are much too wide/slouchy to pull this look off. (I think only totokaelo models can pull off the oversized-with-oversized look).
I have decided that I will probably relegate dresses over pants to a look I appreciate more on other women, and not one that I will do very often. It’s tough to get the proportions right given my stature, and thicker legs. On me, this dress is just a bit too long to wear with jeans/pants, or even leggings. I do well with tunic length tops with jeans/leggings though – that is a look I will wear forever.
I might reserve dresses with pants/jeans for a traveling outfit idea though, as another way to get an additional wear out of either the jeans or the dress. And yes, it’s in the 90’s now here in Texas, so the fewer layers, the better, or linen. All linen.
I like the outfit (and would get the dress if not old). I definitely do the (short) dress over (skinny) jeans.
Grechen, you look lovely! I like the proportions, too.
thanks marie – the dress may show up again during their online sample sale – or at the outlet. of course i will post if it does!!
thank you rjs 🙂
I absolutely LOVE dresses over jeans, I wear this constantly! I usually only wear silk slip dresses over cuffed jeans with sandals, so only a warm weather thing, but I love it! It keeps me warm enough (always cold) and I can jump on my bike if need be and still look cute.
You look adorable! I like the idea of dresses over skirts, but can never seem to pull it off (not that I’ve tried that hard, lol). I love tunics, as I am tall with a long torso so the extra length works. Somehow dresses are trickier. I recently purchased a lovely linen tunic/mini dress and wore it over skinny jeans…which did work. I guess it’s trial and error…not the easiest look to pull off, but when it works, it can be great. 🙂
oooh this seems like a challenge to me! i saw quite a bit of dress over jeans during fashion week, but haven’t seen it done in an ‘accessible’ way. will have to give this a try!
love how you played with the silhouettes and those clogs are amazing!

This outfit is great! (And that necklace is super-great!)
I always think I’ll remember to try this, but then I never do (Time to complete that closet-cleanse!), really, because I forget to be creative since I’ve got TOO MANY clothes!
And I think it would look good since I’m carrying extra weight right now. Plus, with my height, most of my regular length dresses end up looking like tunics on me anyway.
Oh!! I’d love to see how you’d style a dress over jeans! You must do it!!!
I adore this look, and am way jealous of that bag!
