It’s time to talk about denim. I had a denim guide on Grechen’s Closet for a couple of years; it’s now very outdated (I did it in 2006) and thanks to a comment from mamavalveeta03 I’m thinking of doing another one. Honestly, I haven’t been very excited about denim for a long time. For years, I hadn’t been able to fit into my favorite jeans, so I settled for Gap denim. Which worked, but after having worn premium denim for years, I found Gap jeans to be sorely lacking (mostly, they stretched out WAY too much and always gaped at my waist).
Now that I can fit into my jeans again, I’m really looking forward to getting a few new pairs. My holy grail brand is Goldsign (I still have my three favorite pairs). Before that, I wore AG, which was started by Adriano Goldschmeid, but he no longer designs for AG, he designs for Goldsign; after the real AG left AG, I didn’t find the fit nearly as nice, so I switched to Goldsign. I started with the Desire flared leg jeans in 2006 and got the ones I’m wearing: the Passion, shortly after.
Goldsign’s passion style is similar to AG’s Angel and I did have a pair of the Angel cords that I wore INTO THE GROUND. They were fantastic. I also tried on a pair of Angels this weekend at Nordstrom, and they fit me better than anything else I tried, but probably tied with the Paige Skyline style. I was very disappointed with all the too-stretchy denim I tried on though – I like a little stretch, but generally feel better with less, so my bumps are all smoothed out. And I’ve decided that I want MORE black denim. And DARK DARK washes. They are simply more flattering, no question.
Anyway, that was a lot of rambling to get to the fact that I do want to do a new denim guide, and am working on it as we speak. As with my previous denim guide, it will be 100% based on YOUR input: what works and doesn’t work for you, what your favorite brands are, etc. Are you game? I promise I’ll make it worth your time.
In the mean time, tell me what your holy grail denim brand/style is. Have you even found one?
Yay!!! Grechen, I am so excited about a new denim guide. My body has changed a lot over the past couple of years (You think you’ll always be 25, and then all of a sudden you wake up and you’re 50!!), and certain places have gained…let’s call it volume. I find that my holy grail brands are still being discovered, but for a premium denim brand, I love Paige Premium Denim, and for a cheaper brand, Calvin Klein skinny jeans fit me very well (larger waist, not huge hips).
And let me say, you look TALL and lean in that picture! Love it. You look so happy (and you’ve truly inspired me. I started my first yoga class today, and man, did I sweat!!).
I’m denim obsessed. I have several brands but James Jeans are my go-to. They are wide legs, a dark wash and they are hemmed to fall right where they should. When nothing else works – they always do so they’re my safety net.
But 7 for all Mankind makes really good bellbottom jeans. I have a pair in a lighter wash. And J Brand is just comfortable. I love how soft their jeans are.
