This was not exactly my outfit for the day, but it is now my FAVORITE DRESS EVER. (thanks to my wonderful father who is visiting for the week.) We went over to the Domain again (yes, I was just there on Saturday, but by myself ;)) and walked into Calypso, which I honestly hadn’t even realized was there. I almost didn’t try this dress on because I’ve always been “afraid” of linen, and I wasn’t sure how the dress would look on me, but I did think it would be interesting belted, so I tried it on anyway. I originally was drawn to the gray (which I will get next time Calypso has a coupon code…), but thought the navy was more impactful. I tried on the large, but ended up with the medium, because the large was just too bulky, especially belted. It’s really a “tent” dress, so it’s meant to be shapeless, but the large was just way too large, and didn’t fit right up top.
Anyway, I really love the dress, and in spite of the fact that I usually don’t like showing my upper arms, I’m comfortable with it in this dress. And it was HOT today. I am wearing a half-slip (the dress IS linen after all) and realized after my dad took this picture that I probably need to wear a tank top or cami underneath as well – or at least a more “nude” bra.
The belt is from J Crew, the shoes No.6 and the bag Alexander Wang. I just took the picture with that because it’s what I was carrying today, but I normally wouldn’t carry a black bag with navy. **gasp** call me old fashioned…
(I also went back to Madewell to exchange the striped tank top I got Saturday. A woman was walking out of the store wearing this jacket – but in a light gray – and I knew I needed to have it. I got it. Pictures later ;))
Cute dress! You look great! Ironically I was just looking at this dress on the Calypso website, trying to decide what I think…I’m loving it on you! Sounds like it’s running a little big, so would you recommend sizing down one or two sizes in this one? I’m typically a slim US size 6, so wondering whether small or extra small would be best…Thanks!
it definitely runs big – i guess whether to size down 1 or 2 sizes depends on the fit up top. i’m pretty small up top, but very hippy, so the medium worked well for me. if you’re larger up top, i’d size down 1 size, otherwise, you could probably size down 2 sizes. also, linen stretches a bit with wear…
it’s a GREAT dress!! i definitely want to get it in the gray too. the white would be cute as a belted tunic over jeans or something, but i couldn’t do white as a dress!!
Thanks, Grechen! I’m partial to the gray myself, though the navy is lovely and classic. I love white linen, but it’s the hardest to transition…seems like the season for it is short. Not to mention, white gets very dirty! I agree though, it would look great as a tunic too. You’re rocking this look- love it on you! Thanks again!
Cute dress! And I especially love the jacket you linked to. I’m wishing I had enough $$ to buy it right now!

You look adorable! Love the wide belt too. Your new summer uniform? (It might be mine–looks like a nice way to survive the humidity…)
A million years ago I had a CP Shades long linen skirt that I wore when I traveled through India and it was a workhorse. Unfortunately, it’s long-gone but I’m now inspired to find something similar again.
I’ll echo Rebecca and say, “You look adorable!” (and happy–great hair!) Navy is your color, girl! I didn’t know CP Shades was still around. I used to love their stuff…back in the day. ha ha So, is your dad free for some shopping??? LOL
i think i found one while searching for more CP shades on google…i really want to love linen, and i love this dress, but i’m afraid to have more…
thanks crystal…wait for madewell to have e-commerce, i’ll bet they have a coupon code!
LOL. he’d be a great personal shopper.
this is the go-to summer look i basically want three versions of when i’m too lazy to try things on in the morning and just want to grab-and-go. love the chic simplicity of the airy black dress with your nude no.6 clogs!

Just a “heads up” to anyone who might be interested in the CP Shades linen dress; I found it on a website called C. Orrico (corrico.com) and here’s the link:

At $138 it’s cheaper than the $165 on the Calypso-Celle.com site! Although Calypso offers 20% off to new email subscribers!!!

I’m all about that dress. My new obsession is the Marissa shirt. BTW-Just a heads up that CP Shades just relaunched their website and there is the coolest video when you link.
