Remember when I mentioned that I’d be cleaning out my closet (again) and selling pieces (again)? Well, the time has come to weed out my collection of black dresses, starting with one of these. The dress on the left is A.L.C. and I got it from MOSS earlier this year. It’s a great mix of casual & a little dressy because of the tank top and the draped bottom. It also has a zipper on the back, which gives it some interest. Generally I like it because it drapes nicely, and is longer in the front so I don’t need to see my knees π I’ve worn it a few times, but only in cooler weather with tights. It really needs a little tweaking, like the shoulder straps shortened, but I’m so tired of doing alterations lately!
The dress on the right is by LnA. I’ve never worn this out, because every time I put it on, I fixate on that ONE knee I can see…and take it back off again. I do love the top of the dress, and that’s it a little slimmer fit (almost too slim, I probably should have taken a large in this one) than the A.L.C. dress, but it bothers me that it’s so short on one side.
I’m also wearing Rachel Comey sandals that I’m toying around with selling. I love them, but they rub my toes a bit too much, so I’ve hardly worn them…I’m going to wear them out today and make a decision as to wether to add them to the marketplace or not. Keep your eyes out if you like them and you’re a size 8 π
Now that I’m looking at the pictures, I think I know which dress I’d like to keep – if I decide to keep either one. But I’d like to know what you think: which dress should I keep? Or should I sell both of them and continue the search for MY perfect knee-length black dress?
(necklace is by Lizzie Fortunato, and I think I’ll keep it!)
Definitely keep the first one! Its more interesting and looks better on you. I mean you look great in both, but better in the first dress.

P.S. I found your blog via article on IFB “Bloggers over 30” (as I’m one of them too), so nice to meet you and your wonderful blog!!!
thank you so much maria! It’s nice to “meet” you too π
(also adding your blog to my reader right now. love it!)
I’d go with the the one on the left. I think you’d get tired of the other one; it is definitely an interesting shape but not as versatile.
And glad to hear your dog is home and doing better π
You should keep whatever you are comfortable in…at the end of the day no matter how many people tells you that you look fabulous in something if you don’t feel great on it…ItΒ΄s your journey.
thank you!
wait, didn’t i say that? π
true…
but i guess i’m not madly in love with either dress, nor do i REALLY dislike one over the other, so i was looking for some outside opinions to push me a little one way or the other.
I think you look like a total “WOW” in the one on the right, but I think if you don’t feel that either one is your perfect LBD, then keep looking and sell these. But, quite frankly, you look amazing in the one on the right. Just a little unbiased opinion… (yeah, sure Val!).
You have to get over the knee thing because you look great in both dresses but especially the one on the right!
Well if you want an opinion…..i think the one on the right has a more classic shape and I can’t see your knee! : )
thanks π
i carefully chose that picture to NOT show my knee. at least it doesn’t show BOTH knees! i’m sure once i wear the dress, i won’t even worry about my knee showing, it’s just getting dressed, looking in the mirror…
maybe i should do that no mirror thing for a while. just put something on and don’t even look at myself in the mirror. wonder how that would work??
Agreed Joyce! I think Grechen looks so sleek and slim in that one. (OK, I’m officially campaigning for that one!)
ALC. Definitely. The shape is so flattering on you, and the cut is more interesting. Heck–if you don’t want it, I’ll take it off your hands.
while you seem to look great in everything, life is too short to wear anything but clothes that you LOVE!! besides, don’t you just LOVE the chase???
I really like the one on the right. I think it has a much sassier look and is very flattering on you.
