It’s Monday…Monday is usually my favorite day, but today I’m having a hard time getting “into” it. I think I’m thrown off by being in Austin over the weekend; I didn’t get my usual “down” time at home. And I miss my friends there SO much. It was also so hot Saturday I think it just drained me. And we had Chinese food for dinner last night. Whoa.
Anyway, I usually wear this Beyond Yoga top for Pure Barre, but sometimes I wear it with my long Splendid dress, and today I just felt like wearing jeans. I’ve had the jeans for quite some time, and while they’re very comfortable and fit nicely, they’ve always been too long, so instead of getting them hemmed, I cut them. Mostly because I keep meaning to take them to the tailor and haven’t, but also because I sort of like the look of a frayed hem.
To go with today’s random-ness, Net-a-Porter is offering free next day shipping on all orders for a limited time…I have a little extra money this month that I’ve allocated to spend on skincare/beauty, so I think I’ll replenish my Amore Pacific CC cream at Net-a-Porter (since it’s tax free and free/fast shipping!) and get this La Roche posay rosaliac moisturizer from Skinstore (they’re offering 20% off with code FALL20). My face seems redder and “bumpier” lately…maybe it’s the new Acure argan oil? Although is there a difference between argan oils?? That never happened with Josie Maran.
Now. Back to Monday š
Hope you’re having a good one!
I just picked up two Acure lip glosses at Whole Foods and I really like them!
Ok, so, first of all, I think you’re the only person I know who ever said that MONDAY is their favorite day. (“Things We Never Knew About Grechen”) and second, I LOVE the way you layered the pieces. That’s one of my “live in everyday” kind of outfits. It’s the sheerness of the top that makes it look so good.
Still trying to figure out what the Chinese food has to do with Monday…oh well…
I had a good Monday, relatively speaking, since the last week has been non-stop pain. I was doing well enough to sit outside in my lounge chair in the sun for an hour, with a beer (critical to my relaxation…and “Dr No”, as I’m calling Bill, my hubby, won’t let me have one with pain meds!). But it’s sunny, mild, and gorgeous outside, so I’m happy!
yeah, i know loving mondays is weird…but i take all weekend off from shopping/talking about shopping/writing about shopping, so i’m ready to get back into it first thing monday morning š
chinese food for dinner usually means overindulgence. and then waking up not feeling totally myself the next day!
so glad you’re pain-free so far!! and yay for a beer – my friend and i had a great bottle of proseco this weekend. it was heavenly. and just what i needed.
i haven’t seen those! i like the acure oil, generally, although it smells rather bad at first. i just wonder if it’s making my face break out just a bit, i haven’t changed anything else…
Ah, that explains it all! I can understand the desire to take a break over the weekend and then feel all refreshed and ready to dig back into what you love. You’re lucky to feel that way about your career!
And even tho I never have issues with Chinese food (I think it’s because I always get the steamed chicken and vegetables over brown rice and use my own low-sodium soy sauce for flavor), my husband always says he doesn’t feel quite right after indulging!
I’ve been pondering this issue and the new blocked pores you’ve been having. I suspect if you’re putting coconut oil on your face, that could be the culprit, since it’s quite occlusive. And, as long as the Argan oil is 100% pure, I wouldn’t think that’s the issue. (But remember, when it comes to “cost per use,” a bottle of Josie Maran Argan oil lasts a LONG time.) As for the exfoliator I mentioned, I thought you already had a Clarisonic, so if you don’t, don’t run out and buy one. The problem is, women run out to get the latest thing, and then we figure more is better! Not so! Basically, any gentle exfoliator, done twice a week on your dry skin, would be enough. Rice powder exfoliator a are really great, gentle, and popular, so I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of those at lower price points. And your Konjac sponge could be good, as long as it’s drying out between uses ( you don’t want it to harbor bacteria).
I definitely think there is a difference in quality in argan oil. I started using Josie Maran’s and switched to a pure one from WF for less $. It was not great for my skin and I went back to JM. A little goes a long way so it lasts even though it’s more expensive. I really love her products – the SPF and new eyeshadows are awesome!
Thank you for your posts on minimalism and quality vs quantity. I have been struggling with spending and shopping issues for a long time and am now on a no buy. I am editing my closet and find that I do not NEED anything. I tend to purchase more than one of something because more is always better…then only really wear the one I wanted in the first place. Ugh…anyway, thank you again and good luck with your journey as well.
Ok, so I wanted to give you several rice powder exfoliator options. ( I think about skincare a LOT! š )
So, Tatcha is the gold standard, but it costs about the same as a BAR of gold. But it does last forever and my skin has never been better. I think I bought my jar 6 months ago! http://www.tatcha.com/shop/gentle-rice-enzyme-powder
Bare Escentuals is not my favorite brand (other than their glosses), but I LOVE their exfoliating cleanser for it’s gentle, pore-cleansing properties: http://www.sephora.com/exfoliating-treatment-cleanser-P202655?skuId=1318575
There’s one by Sephora, and it gets 5 stars, but I have no personal knowledge of it: http://www.sephora.com/metamorphosis-exfoliating-powder-P387505
thanks for your recommendations š
i’m not using coconut oil on my face – only to remove eye makeup when i wear it.
i stopped using the acure oil and i’ve noticed that the “bumps” on my face have gone away. now i wonder what to do with it…hair i guess? i’m using leftover JM argan oil right now. i agree with you on the cost per use, it’s just a “big” investment up front!!
i do use an exfoliating cleanser by caudalie a couple mornings a week in the shower. and i use wipes to clean my face when i don’t wear makeup, on days when i do wear makeup, i use either my fresh cleanser with my konjac sponge, or caudalie cleanser that i apply with a cotton pad. so am i getting enough exfoliation? do i need more? i have samples of exfolikate, but i can never really tell a difference.
thanks for your comment gloria!
buying multiples of things i love is a lesson i’ve learned the hard way, for sure – i’m like you, i usually only wear the original thing, never the “other” one i bought in a different color. i don’t know why that is? i guess i don’t necessarily like the same style in a different color?
in cleaning out my closet, i have identified that i do need only a few things, and i’m actively seeking those out now – i’d like to be done with “buying” for a while. never shopping…but i tend to fixated on buying the things i need and can’t concentrate until i do!
Oh, sorry, I think I misunderstood you about the coconut oil. It sounds like you found the culprit, being the Acure Argan oil. Yes, hair would be a GREAT use for it!
You sound like you are getting plenty of exfoliation. I pronounce it “all good”!
i think i was going to use coconut oil on my face, but didn’t.
and phew…glad you’re giving me a pass on exfoliation š
