WEARING
H&M dress | size 10, online shopping coming in August
Robert Clergerie Pepo sandals | size 38.5, I’m normally a size 38. The more I wear these, the more comfortable they get
Lizzie Fortunato jewels necklace | n/a
Admonish custom leather tote
Everlane belt
I have been wearing this dress without a belt because it’s SO COMFORTABLE, but I wanted to show you that yes, I do own a belt, and have the capacity to wear it sometimes. Although generally, I’ll put it on and then take it off again because it seems too much. Especially with a necklace. You know I have an accessory problem π And the belt makes the dress MUCH shorter. You know I also have a knee problem…
Anyway, I love this dress, and have worn it a lot since I got it. I know I’ve been hard on H&M (and Zara, frankly) in the past for being fast fashion, and I definitely don’t recommend purchasing your whole wardrobe there, but I’m finding a lot of great basics lately, and if I take care of them (don’t dry them!), I know they’ll last me for several years.
As an aside, all of you YSL Touche Eclat fans, you’re DOING IT WRONG! LOL, not really, but I loved this video/tutorial on Into the Gloss about some good ways to use it. I’ve always used it some of those ways (I am today, including around my lips, which I’ve never done before. I like it!), not as concealer, but I love the video anyway, he’s so cute! (now I also know how to pronounce it.) I posted it on Facebook, do you LIKE Grechen’s Closet there? you should π
Back to the dress though. To belt? Or not to Belt? Do you usually belt? or not?
I would say with that dress, the no-belt look is more flattering. It makes a nice, long, lean line. It also looks more modern (I hate the word “trendy”). It’s probably also cooler this time of year without having the fabric gather at your waist, no?
PS So glad you got your Robert Clergerie sandals and that they’re breaking in!
I think it looks fine both ways. I tend to like without the belt better, but that’s only because that’s how I’d wear it. π
i always default to no belt, but then consequently get chastised here for not showing my shape π
i agree with you – i like it much better without the belt, it also feels much less “fussy” – i don’t like fussy!
thanks π the sandals are great, they just needed wearing!
I’m going with no belt. I like the easy breazy style it has without the belt.
In this case, I vote for no belt. Because of the high / low hem and the shorter length, the proportions look better without a belt. If it was a longer dress, then the belt might work.
Also, this dress is not super-oversized–it’s more body-skimming, so works well on it’s own and doesn’t require more shape definition from a belt.
No belt. It flows and drapes beautifully without it. I bet it moves well, too.
With the belt, it like you’re trying too hard.
I’d go for no belt too. Then the dress stays like it is. For me, belts bunch stuff up and just get in the way. Glad the sandals are working out!
I’m like you– sometimes I belt, sometimes I don’t. I usually make a decision based on the dress but occasionally I base it on how I feel.
Grechen, you knees are fine! I will keep telling you this over and over. I love that you’ve been trying “different” things like varying hemlines and rompers this summer. I think you look fantastic!
thanks linda – i’m so much better about my knees now, it’s just when i look at the picture, they’re staring me right in the face π
OK, I always have to be different, but I say “BELT” because it shows off that spectacular teensy waist of yours!
