I wasn’t sure if I’d done an outfit post with this dress since I got it hemmed (last seen here, NOT cut) – no, sorry, CUT – and there are several versions of it now on sale at Anthropologie that I wanted to show it again. I’m glad I cut it a bit shorter, I think it’s more flattering, especially with flats – not that I’ll generally wear this dress with flats, but I wanted to try it out and see if it worked. And I think it does, with THESE flats, but not with ballet flats…
I really really love this dress, especially when I can layer it and be not quite so exposed, but I feel like I should tell you what to expect after you’ve worn it a few times. Actually in the very beginning the stitching at one of the seams on the side of the dress started to come out, and now more and more are starting to come out. This is not a big deal for me because I just sew them back up, but for a dress that costs $178, it shouldn’t happen. It does also pill a bit, and some of the unfinished hems are fraying. These are all the same things you can read in the reviews at Anthropologie, so read those too if you’re thinking about getting this dress. I would STILL highly recommend it – BUT only on sale; it’s worth $89, not $178 in my opinion.
This is the kind of dress that makes you feel amazing the second you put it on – look amazing too. Maybe it’s that affect that makes the dress “worth” $178 to many of us (my husband bought this for me at full price), but since so many of them have turned up on sale recently, I do think it’s worth waiting a bit.
Do you have this dress? Have you tried it?
I have a fear that this dress would not look good on busty women, which I am. I’ve looked at it on-line but I’m worried that if you have a bigger chest it would look funny.
since i have no chest, i’m not sure i can speak to that. maybe one of the versions without such a high neck would be more flattering?
I’ve noticed it on several women this summer, I think because it’s such an eye-catching, flattering style. But I just checked out the green lace version you posted and I LOVE that for me. (with cardi, of course!). It’s in the “maybe” column right now.
I’ve been on the fence about this dress because I love the design, but read all of those bad reviews Hmm now I’m thinking of getting it again! I would just hope the pilling is easily fixed!

the pilling isn’t really that bad, i only noticed a few little “pills” in the side seams…
