I’ve been thinking about love. And then today, on Brain Pickings, was a beautiful article on “…Love and what it means to live in the present:”
Love is the quality of attention we pay to things
attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity
the real, filled present, exists only in so far as actual presentness, meeting, and relation exist.
Feelings accompany the metaphysical and metaphysical fact of love, but they do not constitute it… Feelings are “entertained”: love comes to pass. Feelings dwell in man; but man dwells in his love.
As I get older, I feel a stronger need for connection and deeper relationships. I’m finding it more compelling to have healthier/happier relationships now than anything else; I just want to be present with the people I love.
When I started practicing lovingkindness meditation, the first time I did it, I cried. I felt it – what it feels like to feel love and be present for every single living thing everywhere. I didn’t keep that up, but I’d like to get back to it. I don’t know what’s more important than feeling love for yourself and others.
Ha. I didn’t used to be so sappy LOL.
That’s reality though. As a 45-year old, married with no children, I know that my relationships with my family and friends will be what sustain me going forward, and I know I need to work harder to make them more meaningful. It’s complicated, and I know that just because you have children absolutely doesn’t mean that they will be available to you as you get older, but I don’t think I’m alone in my anxiety about old-age as it relates to not having children of my own. I have a wonderful step-son and I hope he will remain a big part of my life going forward, but it is not something that I “count” on.
Not that I count on anything, really – nothing is guaranteed. Which is why now is important. For me, the idea that by being present in whatever it is I’m doing and attentive to whoever I’m with is a manifestation of love resonates deeply. And gives me hope.
Uh…that has nothing to do with the outfit photo, that just happens to be what I’m wearing today. It does have to do with this Stella McCartney bag I’ve had my eye on for some time though 🙂
Happy Wednesday!!
Oh, also if you’re a size 4 in Rachel Comey or 37 in shoes, so great stuff launched today at Slowre 🙂
This buxton jumpsuit fits me, but is just a teeny bit small, which I can only really tell when I sit. I love it, and wanted to buy it for myself, but I would do better with the size 6. (the photo is via instagram yesterday. I also posted quite a few modeling videos on Slowre’s instagram stories if you’re interested!)
Hi Grechen! How do the white slides fit? I wear 7.5-8, do you think they’ll be too small for me?
i am a size 8 and they “fit” me, but are a teeny bit snug. I think if you lean more towards a 7.5 they would fit?
Thanks! Is the heel heavy or light and easy to walk in?
super-light. i found them very comfortable – i started seeking out a pair to buy in my size 😉
Love this outfit! Curious how you find destroyed jeans to sit in… I found in the past my thigh fat was pushing at the holes, ugh!
What is your secret? They look amazing on you!
get the sizing right 🙂
which is tricky for me since my legs are quite thick…
sometimes a little fat peeks through the holes when I’m sitting, but I just ignore it LOL
thank you zanna!
