I started writing this post yesterday, and thank goodness because I don’t know what I have in me right now. Hawk is down for his nap, but before he went down, he pitched a fit on the changing table about getting his diaper changed. He does this now EVERY TIME, and it wears me out. I let him thrash and wear himself out as much as I can, but he’s up on the changing table and can easily fall off. I’ve tried changing him on the floor/standing up, and that doesn’t work either. Anyway, I’m tired already and it’s 1 PM.
Also, before I let myself sit down to write, I prepped some food: baked apples, made Hawk’s blueberry chickpea bites for snacks this week, and made hummus. I do a TON of prep work/cooking every couple of days just to feed Hawk and myself the way I want to. I’m probably a little too obsessed, but I try so hard to pack as much nutritional value into everything I feed my family; it’s one of the most important ways I express my love for them. Leo makes dinner every night and he’s always coming up with interesting, flavorful vegan dishes for us – it’s the way he keeps himself vegan haha (it’s much harder for him than it is for me). And for Leo, food is very much an expression of love.
Moving on though, this is what I wore yesterday, and wow…I felt great in this outfit – I really felt like myself. You guys know how much I love a drop crotch LOL. I’m not sure these pants photograph well (it was tough to find a picture I liked, even though I like the pants) but I have really grown to love them since I bought them a few months ago. I had a hard time at first, and this is only the third time I’ve worn them, but they are comfortable, have large pockets, scratch that denim itch, and are VERY unique. I also happen to think they look very cool. Most people probably don’t but that’s okay, I don’t need anyone to have an opinion one way or another on what I wear.
Clothing is so emotional though. I know that part of why I felt so great yesterday is that I just…felt great. It’s a different level though, when you feel great and you’re wearing something that really syncs with your vibe; it’s just RIGHT. That’s how I felt all day yesterday. Today, I’m warm and comfortable, but I feel like a bit of a slob and sort of bleh. I don’t feel as great today, no, but also, my outfit is nothing special (JP pants, long tee and old, sloppy looking, too small cashmere turtleneck…) so it doesn’t bolster me. Even when no one else sees what you wear, I know it’s still worthwhile to wear things that lift you up – make you feel powerful – special, whatever. I plan on doing that more often.
Finally, after buying nothing in January, I did buy a new pair of Dansko clogs (I KNOW. this is a slightly different style than what I’ve had before and supposed to have a more “generous” fit) this week and another item from Girlfriend Collective. Everything from their new For Everyone collection looks so cozy and good, but all I really need rn is a BIG f’ing hoodie, and so I ordered the hoodie in chai, size 5. For some reason I had a $25 credit and $10 worth of reward points, so I got the price down to $47. SCORE. If you’re in need of a fleece hoodie/jacket, I wear the cropped hoodie (large) I got from them all the time outside (it’s my “coat”) but the new all gender one looks awesome also, I like that it’s longer…
How are you? What did you wear this week that made you feel really good/like yourself?
Happy Friday!!
I’m wearing a red sweater today for heart dx awareness 😉 Even though the only person to see me today is my husband. I didn’t even have any zoom meetings. I got 2 new caftans this week so I’m ready for summer WFH. A friend recommended a woman in India. Apparently they’re COVID-famous now. Perfect fabric – gorgeous colors, light cotton – I know I’ll enjoy wearing them when it’s warm and I hate having fabric on my skin….
I’m a little worried about shoes. I haven’t worn them often in so long – my birkenstocks might be the only thing I have left to wear. Even my standby Ecco slip on sneakers gave me blisters when I wore them last week to grocery shop. Oh well – cross that bridge when I have to, right? (and we’ve all agreed we’re not going to discuss bras, right??!!)
It’s funny to me how people respond to denim. Some love it, and some hate it – and I’m falling into the “hate it” camp! Not how it looks, but how it feels. I wore jeans maybe twice last year (both times in early 2020 before we were sent to WFH permanently), and I had a really hard time finding denim that fit me, and felt good, even before that. So I haven’t worn denim in a loooong time, and then I put on a pair of jeans last weekend for an outing…..and hated them the entire time. I felt awful, I hated how I looked, and it just did not work. But I love how denim looks on other people and how they can style it! For me….I feel slobby in it, which is kind of odd, because other people feel more put together in a good pair of jeans.
I did wear an outfit this week that really vibed with me, though! To see a dermatologist. lol It was an athlesiure outfit….some cargo leggings from Target (which I never thought would be a thing), and a loose, long-sleeve top from Athleta, and the prettiest Adidas trainers I think I’ve ever seen (they were my Christmas treat). That made me feel good, and feel like “me”. I felt sharp and put together in a way that I haven’t felt in a looooong time. 🙂
I am also really feeling the large, flowy pant leg thing lately, and am also not sure why, but there it is. 😉 They make me very very happy! I recently bought a soft denim-ish pair from the sustainable producers formerly known as Tribe Alive and I can hardly take them off my body!
I figured it out. It’s now Laude the Label. My pants no longer available and they have nothing similar currently.
Those are great pants!! Love the detail of the tiny cuff you rolled, and the subtle shape that gives. The Elizabeth Suzann Florence pants in linen are my “I feel like me” pants for warmer weather. I have a pair in flax and black, and wear them non-stop. Don’t know what I’m going to do when they wear out (well, it seems like several ethical brands make something similar, Only Child/Linen Fox/etc. I’m sure I’ll find something…).
I’m with you! I’ve never been a huge fan of jeans – not allowed to wear for most of high school (dress codes), didn’t wear much in college, have worn rarely in the decades since then. I find a pair of narrow black ankle (usually) pants are more my style. Can be casual, but can be a little dressier (fine for work, for going out to dinner when traveling, etc) I no longer feel bad about not searching forever and/or spending a lot of money on clothing (jeans) that other women love but I don’t.
Snap! I’m wearing exactly the same clogs. Only had them a week, but I love them. They are surprisingly warm.
I am also stoked about the Girlfriend Collective’s new For Everyone collection! I haven’t purchased anything yet, but I’m definitely eyeing it.
Our one year anniversary was yesterday, so I actually pulled out the big guns and got DRESSED UP…… and it felt soooooooo good!! I forgot how much I love the act of putting myself together and feeling fancy and powerful. I even decided to forgo the typical dress for being dressed up and wore pants and a blazer with sneakers and I loved it! I should post a pic of it this week!
