WEARING:
Textile Elizabeth & James skirt (via LastCall a while ago)
L’Agence top (from Gilt)
Calvin Klein sandals
Jas M.B. bag (link goes to black version)
I got this L’Agence top quite some time ago via Gilt, but really haven’t worn it much. One, because it’s pretty low-cut, and two, because it’s pretty low cut. I hate to constantly mess with my clothing to make sure I’m not showing my bra, too much cleavage (who am I kidding, I don’t have any…), or whatever, so if there’s any chance of that, I just choose something else to wear. But I REALLY love this top (it’s linen, and striped, and has elastic in the back so it looks kind of awesome back there). And if I take care not to bend over too far, I don’t think I’m showing too much, so I’ve started to wear it a bit more.
I also ALWAYS have to think of the right bra to wear. Today, I’m wearing this Cosabella bra, which I really love, and it’s deep enough not to show with this top. But…it’s lacking in coverage (as you can see if you click over to Shopbop, the poor model is covering herself so as not to show too much), so I can’t wear it with white tees or anything fitted at all. It works for this top because it’s loose, but I’m constantly searching for THE PERFECT BRA to go with everything. I’ve yet to find it, but I did get the Eberjey deal (spend $60 get $100) from the new Refinery29 Shops and ordered three of the Pima Goddess bras, so we’ll see how those work.
Do you have a favorite bra that goes with everything? That you don’t have to think about what you’re wearing it with? Please share 🙂
Oh – I’m going to start posting some outfits over at Austin Fashion Seen a couple of times a week. That’s where last Thursday’s outfit is…
Hey Grechen, thanks for all of your posts, I’ve changed my wardrobe drastically (for the better!) thanks to your coupon codes! Also, a tip for your top (you probably already tried it, but in case you didn’t), a light camisole that has a bit of a higher neck than your top may help– its what I do for my tops just to feel comfortable. Also, your haircut suits you very well! Thanks again 🙂
hi samra! i do sometimes wear a camisole, but i hate to do that in the Summer!! but it definitely does solve the problem…
Oh gosh…don’t even get me started about how horrendous bra shopping is for me. I have problems with fit (large band size, small boobs) and I nursed 3 kids…enough said about that. Plus, I am not sure if it’s my eczema flaring up, or if I’ve developed an allergy to the synthetics in the bra, but I ITCH like crazy when I wear anything but a cotton…ALL cotton…bra. Just TRY to find one of those online! (believe it or not, not all shopping is easy when you live in the Hamptons. I don’t want fancy-schmancy La Perla, just cotton. Hanro??) If anyone has a suggestion, I’d love to hear it!
i’ll apologize up front for not feeling sorry for your shopping choices living in the HAMPTONS 😉
the eberjey bras i just ordered are mostly cotton, 92%. i know that’s not 100%, but it’s the most cotton i’ve ever seen in a bra – more than some of the hanros. incidentally, there are quite a few 100% cotton styles on sale at hanro. it’s worth a look. i’ve never tried the brand, but i’d like to…
OK, lol…you got me there! That sounds so snobby of me, too, doesn’t it? SO not me. Believe me!! I walked into a salon today to make an appt. and I got “the look” (as in: “She doesn’t belong here. Doesn’t she know who WE are?” 😉 I might have to try eberjay. I love their pj sets and camis. I’ll check out Hanro. Thx Grechen!!! (the hair is looking so cute–which product did you end up with?)
haha! you didn’t sound snobby. i’m sure you’re suffering there. in the HAMPTONS 😉
i haven’t tried any other product on my hair yet, but i’m thinking i’ll pick up some sumowax from B&B. somehow i want my hair to always look like i just got out of bed. this morning, it was perfect – i hadn’t washed in in days and it had tons of product in it LOL
what about one of those croptop/bralette type thingies? Depending on how much support you need, of course.
I found a Fantasie bra style that fits me really well so I got a bunch of neutral ones and a few black ones (it only comes in 2 colors) and wear it pretty much all the time. I tried other styles from the same brand and they don’t fit me at all! Go figure. I’m happy to have found this one, because it’s plain, it’s low-cut and the straps are not built-up or bulky. It’s also quite comfy.
i have a few hanky panky bralettes that i wear with black tops/tanks/dresses, but would never wear with white – there’s just not enough coverage if you know what i mean…
i don’t need a lot of support, which is why i love bralettes, but i wish they had just a bit more coverage, either a bit of padding or at least an opaque material.
