wearing: Vintage polka-dot skirt | James Perse tee | Vintage belt | No6 Clogs
Hello!! I missed you guys last week, did you even know I was gone? ๐
I was in NYC for the Independent Fashion Bloggers conference (moderating a panel – with Coco Rocha, no less!!), and even though I came back on Friday, and did absolutely NOTHING over the weekend, I’m still worn out. Or maybe I’m just overwhelmed with trying to follow-up with everyone I met and recap the amazing messages I heard at the conference. And even though I was surrounded by fashion bloggers with fancy cameras, I didn’t get an outfit picture ONE day I was there, so I was going to recreate them for you this week. Not including this one today. I’m too tired for that today!
The skirt I’m wearing, I’m actually “borrowing” from the hunt.gather.style pop-up shop. I thought I’d wear it with a silk blouse for the conference, but decided not to, so I think I’ll put it back in the shop (in case anyone’s interested!). I love the subtle pleats and the polka-dots of course. It’s a little longer than I think is very flattering on me, but I don’t mind it; if you’re taller, it will fall right at your knees.
I also decided while at the conference/in NYC, I’d like to wear “brighter” lip color sometimes. I saw so many ladies looking amazing in their bright lips; I think it would be fun to try. Any MUAs out there (Val?) who can suggest a good color for me based on my skin tone? I have no idea…
Here’s to an amazing week ahead!! Glad to be back (although not really, it’s 105 again today)
You look so much better with shorter skirts! This one it really looks good on you, you maybe think that is an awkward length but I believe that makes your legs longer.. : )
This skirt looks fab on you! Glad to have you back in Austin, and I can’t wait to hear all the stories!
While I wouldn’t say “better” (what fun would it be if we didn’t have choices in life as well as skirt lengths?!?), I think this is adorable on you. I HAVE to start thrifting!! (unfortunately, a lot of Hamptons ladies are teensy weensy, so there aren’t a lot of larger sizes in the thrift stores, according to a friend of mine).
I LOVE the look of bright lips (I just bought the new Poppy King for J. Crew lipcolor, and adore it!). I believe that we’re often attracted to colors that naturally look good on us (however, there are always exceptions to that rule! lol…), so don’t be afraid to trust your own judgement! For you, with your medium brown/auburn hair, chocolate brown eyes, and lt./med. skintone, I’d choose Bobbi Brown’s new Rich Lip Color in “Rose Blossom” to wear with cooler tones (you can make it look matte or blot and wear gloss over it), and “Guava” for warm toned outfits; for a sheer lipcolor, Bobbi Brown Lip Tint in “Berry” or the new Kate Spade/Poppy King collaboration, “Supercalifragilipstick”(don’t you just love that name!?!) in “Pop Art Pink” might work for you. I find that it sometimes helps to ease into bright colors by wearing one that is more sheer in texture. Another tip: Surf through a makeup artist website (such as BB, NARS, Laura Mericer) and find one of their models with your coloring, then check out what colors they are wearing. It’s pretty much foolproof! Try them out, and remember, when you go bright on your lips, go easy on the eyes (i.e. Lots of black mascara is fine, and a black eyeliner), and add a bit of blush so you don’t look washed out. Let me know what you choose! <3
thanks val, i knew you would come through ๐ so first, i will try bobbi brown, i do love her lipsticks. but the kate spade/poppy king collab sounds amazing!!
i’ll report back and let you know what i settle on!!
I can’t wait to hear how it goes–that’s a look you can TOTALLY pull off!!
I really love the skirt, it’s great with the belt!
PS- I did miss you!
joyce!!! thank you ๐
i miss you…
This skirt is so cute with the belt and t! So on trend with the midi length and I’m not sure how tall you are, but it makes me feel like my little 5’3″ self might be able to pull it off too!
Thanks for the continued inspiration Ms. Grechen! xoxo!
Nicole, I’m only about 5’4″!! I feel like this skirt isn’t quite midi because it doesn’t hit mid-calf but it is still a longer length. Try it!!
you’re totally right-not quite midi. maybe because it makes your legs look longer! I love the lengths of your skirts and dresses that you play with. Bra-vo!
You look so beautiful in that skirt!
