A photo from vacation at Lake Burton near Clayton, Georgia
Wow, I did it… I went totally dark last week. Except for Monday. It was relatively easy though, on Tuesday the whole family went up to a house we rented on Lake Burton and the connection/access was pretty spotty and frustrating. Anyway, I wasn’t interested in spending much time working or on my phone, I spent most of my time outside and in a kayak in the cove or in the lake. It was heavenly.
When we got back to the Atlanta area on Friday late afternoon, I checked in and browsed the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. In years past, you may remember, I will sometimes buy one or two things and then return them. If I end up with anything, it’s usually a bra, or a few pairs of Hanky Panky thongs.
This year, I started with the Patagonia nano-puff hoodie for my mom. If I was in the market for a nano-puff jacket, I’d definitely get the hoodie instead of the regular one I have, but I’m not. There are times when I think I’d appreciate a hood, so I absolutely recommend this one – and the price is amazing, better than you can get it during REI’s coupon code in the fall. Just FYI, I took a large in this jacket, so I do think it runs rather small if you have any hips at all.
For myself, I ordered these Eileen Fisher wide leg pants, Beyond Yoga leggings & Spanx Lounge-hooray shorts. For the price, I thought I’d try the Eileen Fisher pants and return them if they’re not perfect. Eileen Fisher is hit-or-miss for me if I don’t try it on in person; the sizing is so random. I ordered the small.
There are also some other good Eileen Fisher pieces on sale, like this dress and this organic cotton jacket. And James Perse, of course. I bought and returned a dress in this color last year, not because of the color so much, but because the style wasn’t right on me, but this tank dress, and this price ($129) is a no-brainer if you’re in the market for another JP tank dress…
Of course, I’m tempted by a pair of satin Vince sneakers, and I definitely recommend this Beyond Yoga camisole with built in bra (I have two similar camis that are many years old, still going strong). OH yeah, and my FAVORITE SOCKS!!!
So…did you order/buy anything? Have your eye on anything? Or are you more like me, and don’t really shop this sale so much??

Often I’ve been tempted by the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but not so much this year. I think a lot of it is due to the fact that I now live in a climate with actual SEASONS–in Northern California I could wear 90% of my wardrobe year-round, but in Colorado I definitely dress differently in winter and summer 😉 Also, since I basically work from home (I do go into the office, but it’s even more casual than my Silicon Valley office), I’m not “dressing up” as much for work as I did in the past. So the dressy work stuff at the sale isn’t as appealing.
PLUS, like you, I think I am now in the shop-in-the-season mindset. I know what I like wearing RIGHT NOW and what I need more of–like summer dresses! Even with my casual office, I only have three that I can really wear to work, and I need a couple more options. (I have to say–the organic hemp / cotton Eileen Fisher shift dress I bought last year has held up SO WELL–I wore it every other day on my trip to Europe and at least twice a week now. Cost per wear is definitely very low!) So instead of the Nordstrom sale I bought this dress from Beklina that I’ve been coveting but wasn’t going to pay $340 for(https://www.beklina.com/products/correll-correll-coco-two-dress-bronze) plus a few things from Curator SF on sale since I liked the other dress I bought there so much.
So until we get into real fall, I can’t really assess what I need for the next season. And I don’t want to buy anything that I don’t know if I will want in 3 months. So skipping the Nordstrom sale this year!
ah!!!!! i love that dress at beklina!!! have been looking at it too, but didn’t think it would look great on me (not the color, the layers)
that’s what i hate about buying out of season too – i want different things when i’m IN IT, you know? and then, i can assess better what i need, instead of what seems to be trending for the next season
I’m so glad you took a week to yourself! It sounds like you had a beautiful trip 🙂
I am totally eyeing the Vince slip ons. I kind of want the aubergine ones, but then the part of my brain that only likes neutrals is like WHY NOT GRAY??? I’m also super into this Eileen Fisher jersey knit dress. Her dresses fit me really well, and it has a similar shape to a Lovesick dress I have that has long sleeves…… which is not summer friendly. Then again, I already bought two tunic dresses this month. Not sure if I need another. Stupid Anniversary Sale always gets me!!
I’m was considering the EF dress and the JP long jacket. The jacket is currently sold out in black in size 2 but if it comes back into stock I might try it. Not sure that I need another black dress. There is an EF tunic that I like — also the Louise et Cie Fenn lace-up oxfords (metallic). I haven’t shopped the sale in the past and at this point there’s nothing that I feel like I absolutely need. Might be better off filling holes in my wardrobe as I see them later on. In the meantime I have a cart going, but sometimes I think making up a cart is the part I like the most, without actually buying the items!
I don’t have early access because I don’t have (nor do I need, so nor will I get…) a Nordstrom card. I have a few things saved to my wish list but home or beauty. Maybe a scarf or shawl – I did last Friday and have forgotten already 😉 I do need a brown bag so I might look to see if there’s anything I like (even though I mostly wear black, for some reason, I like a dark brown purse in the winter…and my last one died this past winter). I don’t think I need shoes (I KNOW I don’t need any boots, esp ankle boots which seem to be filling the shoe pages of this sale) So, I haven’t bought anything and don’t have any big plans but I’m willing to reconsider if I look at my closets and see a hole.
Welcome back! So happy you enjoyed your break. That photo is gorgeous!
Nice to have you back.
So far, I only bought some panties, the Hourglass face palette and the EF Wool jacket in the color Sea Salt.
My wardrobe is definitely in a happy place, and I don’t “need” anything else…except for a couple of bras, but none of the ones included in the sale are not what I like…hate molded cups, and don’t need any extra padding.
I have been looking for some Tap Pants style underwear, but the only ones I’ve found are expensive at $75 and up.
yikes…”none are not what I like” is such bad grammar!! so much for proof reading before hitting enter!!
Hi! Glad you had a fantastic vacation/days off. This is a stock up year so, socks for me and husband, assorted other undergarments. An Eileen Fisher wool tee. I wear linen tees in warmer months, silk tees usually year round and I’m trying wool or cashmere tees in cooler months for work. Pop a jacket on and your covered. Replaced my cognac knee high boots and pair of black flats. Then. Gifts. Silk pillowcases for a few girlfriends, S’well water bottles and the Volupa Spa candles for the gift closet (i.e. I need a gift and hadn’t planned for it). I’m thinking on a few other things that are gifts for people still but haven’t completely decided as of now. I use the NAS for a lot of staple gifts and replacement items in my wardrobe. My cognac knee high boots are maybe 7 years old and have needed replacing for two years but I’ve never found exactly what I’m looking for as I look while I’m wearing them! Preplanning paid off.
there are so many good gift ideas at the NAS (love that you have a “gift closet” LOL) !
and there’s a le labo santal 33 “set” too, but i’m not a fan of paying $$ for shower gel.
i was going to order a new swell bottle, but they all sold out before i could!
love that jacket!! agree on the bras, i wish there were more bralettes in the sale – i would have added a couple.
thank you 🙂
i’ve noticed that things often sell out pretty quickly, then come back in stock. OR, they show up after the sale at full price, and then go on sale later. I always look at those fleece jackets during the sale and never buy one, then sometimes see them later. yet still, i’ve never bought one. i like the cropped one, but probably wouldn’t wear it…
i love making a cart too!! and then, if i leave it for more than 24 hours and haven’t given any of the items a second thought, i give up on them. it’s for the better usually 🙂
love those aubergine ones. i looked at the velvet ones from last year and missed out, always regretting it…
