Have you seen the new Nordstrom?
They made much ado about the site redesign over the weekend, and I’ve just had a chance to look it it. It’s interesting. I think I like it, but I’m a fan of very minimal, easy to use design. It doesn’t seem very conducive to just “browsing” though, do you think? I kind of feel like I have to know already where I want to go when I get there; which I usually do – I go straight to James Perse, or the Savvy Department 😉 – although I do think it takes too many clicks to get to either of those places…
But I do like the simple layout and larger images.
I was particularly interested in the “Conversation” tab – being the twitter addict I am 😉 – and think it has a lot of potential, but I do wish they’d allow you to know a bit more about the posters/contributors in the Fashion Forum by either having a profile, or directly linking the username to their blog. I would participate if I had the incentive that people could click directly back to Grechen’s Closet or at least access my site via a profile on Nordstrom.com.
What do you think? Have you given it a spin yet? Do you think it’s better than the previous version of the site? Or should they have left well enough alone?
I happened to be browsing, leave, and then when i came back they made the switch and i got all confused. I think I like the old one better but I usually feel that way after a redesign. 🙁 oh well.
Yes! @ too many clicks. Getting anywhere takes way too much clicking. They killed some useful categories (e.g. Lingerie Sets). Half the useful features are gone (filtering bras by size, “see more by this brand” links on product pages, seeing the category context of a product so you could see other items in the category) and the other half of the old features are hidden under some menu or the other. Nordstrom used to be favorite shopping site for sheer ease of use. Boooo is all I have to say about the redesign.
