Remember when you were little, how much you wanted your shoes to make noise, just like your mom’s? I always did anyway. But now, as an adult, I don’t own many pairs of shoes that you can hear coming – until now. I mentioned these Madewell boots in yesterday’s post – that I wasn’t sure I’d keep them, but yeah, I’m keeping them. They make me feel all grown up. Not just because they make noise, but because they’re a nice, “fancier” alternative to my clogs and sneakers I’ve had in heavy rotation lately. I think they bring my outfit up a notch or two.
I’m not sure these boots are “me” exactly, but what fun is fashion if we can’t pretend every once in a while? They’re a slightly sassy version of me – a more “Dallas” version of me – a more “polished” version of me. But still kind of me. And they’re ridiculously comfortable. I’m going to make them work, although I haven’t found much I really like to wear them with besides leggings and my James Perse crepe surplus pants. I wanted them to work with knee-length dresses & skirts, but I’m not feeling that right now. Any other suggestions?
*speaking of My Habit, I see that R&R Surplus is on there today – THERMALS!!!
Gorgeous. More drama, but still you.
I love the brown on you. I’ve recently added a couple of items in that color and love how it warms up black pieces but still stays “neutral.”
I’m going to have to check out those booties.
Love the boots! Glad your keeping them. I saw the R&R sale! WOOHOO. I’ll probably order something. I also revieved via email, that the have a very tiny resort collectuon that they said they might not put up on their site. But, they have a thermal, high/lo dress that I am really wanting. Made me think of you when I saw it!
Love that outfit! I like how the caramel in the top mirrors the boots. And the print in the scarf adds interest. (I had completely forgotten about Virginia Johnson, even though I met her in her Toronto studio some years back and bought a dress from her.) I’m often at a loss as to how to style browns, but mixing them with blacks in a small way like this is a great idea.
You mean that your boots make noise in a good way, right? Because I hate it when my footwear squeaks and it’s not supposed to. I’m afraid I don’t have any styling suggestions for yours because my booties all go above my ankles, being a cold Canadian and all. 🙂
haha! yes, i mean in a “good” way not in a squeaky way LOL
i really thought a long time about getting that R&R skirt on my habit today (it’s very similar to the james perse one i love), but decided to pass. i’m a little scared that it wouldn’t fit my hips very well – and anyway, i need to curb my buying…a LOT.
thanks lisa!!
jen, the booties are great. so comfortable. i’m going to wear them on my flight next week, they’re that good….
and i’m absolutely going to get the other color when they go on sale or have a code.
And double word score for having two Canadian pieces (lululemon and Virginia Johnson) in one outfit. We are quietly trying to take over the world…. 😉
haha! i’m not sure i realized she was canadian…
See, that’s how we do it. We’re sneaky. We walk among you… 🙂
oh…i get it 😉
pretty soon we’re all going to be wearing flannel and denim tuxedos, eh?
Well, you know that the synonym for the Canadian Tuxedo is the Texas Tuxedo, eh? 🙂
That’s OK, I can take good-natured ribbing. I’ll see you at the Winter Olympics where our hockey team will mop up yours. 🙂
damn…you got me there!
(on both counts…)
You look great, as always! I also really like the “pop” of brown- warms you and the neutrals up!
Stay away from the R&R Surplus dresses and skirts. They are really not cut well for anyone with any curves whatsoever. I am tall and slim and feel like the shape of their dresses and skirts is just incredibly unflattering. It’s really too bad as they are cute, and the fabrics are soft and lovely. I’d stick to James Perse for those kind of pieces…much more flattering!
thanks lala – i think you mentioned that before about R&R surplus. i’ll stay away from the bottoms unless i can try them on in person…
I agree on the R&R Surplus skirts and dresses for the most part. But…this new dress from their resort line looks loose…A line, so maybe they are going to come out with more figure flattering shapes now. You can see it on their homepage. It looks like a skirt in the photo, mbevause they have a sweatshirt over it. But, I emailed them, and it us a dress. 🙂
You look freakin’ fantastic in that outfit!! You not only look comfortable, but incredibly chic. Kind of like a young, stylish version of “a lady who lunches”! ;-). And this is a perfect hair day, so don’t do the “Zosia bob” quite yet.
Plus, I always shy away from brown leather with black clothes and you’ve just given me the impetus to pull it off. Love it!
Those are beautiful boots. I love me some noisy boots! I contra dance, so I enjoy making lots of noise with my boots. You’re allowed to stomp your feet, and it’s great fun.
