I love Austin. Really, really love it. I have met the MOST wonderful people and am constantly amazed at how truly “interested” everyone is. I wanted to say “nice,” but that’s sort of cliche; people here are nice, but they are also genuinely interested and engaged. I love the sense of entrepreneurship, ownership and creativity here – it’s almost like a feeling that anyone can do anything….
So, I loved my new stylist so much that I went back!! LOL, when I got my haircut last, we decided to do “long” bangs, and I really loved how they looked the first couple of days, but after that, I didn’t quite know what to do with them. And I REALLY don’t like to spend a lot of time styling my hair. So, yesterday I went back to Carissa at Milk and Honey and got bangs (which I’ve had before, you know) and am so happy they’re back! I think the bangs give my face better definition, and create an actual hairstyle.
While I was out on 2nd street, I stopped in to Eliza Page because I had purchased a groupon (ADDICTED!!!) recently, which allowed me to get the AMAZING necklace I’m wearing by a local designer, and Austin Shines winner, Ax + Apple – Jamie Dorfman (more of her stuff on etsy), for nearly 50% off!!! I was so tempted by so many things in the store, but the moment I put this on my neck, I knew it was meant to be. I love the draping, and I think she makes everything with vintage chains and pieces. Anyway, I’m so proud to have been able to purchase one of these pieces, and look forward to continuing to support local design at Eliza Page (so sorry for those of you who don’t live in Austin…the store is amazing, but they do have a nice selection online as well).
I love Austin, too! I live in San Antonio, and visit Austin nearly every weekend. Eliza Page is great! My favorite stores are Kick Pleat and By George on Lamar, but the one on South Congress is cool, too.
I love Austin!! Though I dont live there, we’ve done many week-end retreats at the Barton Creek resort and it’s so relaxing! My last trip there, I hit the spa and couldnt resist picking up a pair of flip flops with a giant cubic zarconia stone onthem (really, they are not as tacky as they sound) that said “If you have to ask, you can’t afford me!” Love it !
thanks for sharing your hot spots! I’ll have to check them out next time!!
Grechen, your hair looks amazing and I absolutely LOVE the bangs on you!!! They totally accentuate your gorgeous eyes.
I’d love to visit Austin sometime. I’ve heard so much about the music scene there, and the free-spirited nature of the city. Someday….
I can’t say anything about Austin as I’ve never been there (sad, I know!) but I must tell you…
LOOOVE the new bangs!! You look great, very modern. I think it makes your face look even slimmer and highlights your eyes. Fantastic change! 🙂
thanks Susan! you know, i’m not sure austin would be a great place to just randomly come and visit – not unless you had friends here (which you do, BTW 😉 – or if you kind of knew where to go…it’s an awesome place to live though, that’s for sure.
thank you!! come and visit anytime, we could do some damage shopping 😉
i was just in san antonio yesterday!! we just went to the alamo and surrounding area – loved the alamo, but would really appreciate some recs. for shopping/eating next time i’m in town!!! and i haven’t made it to kickpleat or the by george on lamar yet. i’ve been to by george on s. congress, and loved it!
You look absolutely AWESOME! and I’m so glad that you are truly happy in Austin!!
🙂
I moved to Austin just over a year ago and it’s such a wonderful city! There are so many things I like about it I wouldn’t even know where to begin making a list. It’s taken me a bit of time to find stores I like (Barney’s Co-Op, Kick Pleat, and Bows+Arrows are my current favorites). I’ve tried a few different salons but I haven’t found one that I love yet. Maybe I will try Milk and Honey!
I love to eat out so I can definitely help with restaurant picks! Just let me know what cuisine you are in the mood for. Dough is my favorite for pizza. Pam’s Patio Cafe is my favorite for lunch & dinner, and Piatti’s, Tre Trattoria, and Il Sogno for good Italian food. Bin 555 is awesome for tapas. Green is the only vegetarian/kosher restaurant in town. I love their veggie burgers. You’ll find great Mexican food everywhere, but I especially like Rosario’s. I could go on forever with Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, etc… picks. Shopping in San Antonio is not so great. I like Penny Lane & Lee Lee Loves Shoes on Broadway, and La Cantera is the nicest mall here. I mostly shop online, which is why I love your blogs.
carissa at milk & honey is fabulous! she is so sweet, and i have been really happy with my cut/color. a friend of mine went over there last week to get a color correction & cut, and she was happy as well. definitely give her a try if you can 🙂
