Yes, I bared my legs yesterday. I normally don’t do that in February, but I wanted to wear this dress, and it was the perfect weather for it (mid-60’s), so I shaved my legs and went for it.
On Friday, I spent some time at James Perse trying on a few new things I’ve had my eye on. I didn’t leave with anything, but added a few things to my wish list for Spring:
I tried these on in size 2, they’re not very drapey on me, with my thicker legs, but man….they were sooo soft and comfortable.
This isn’t a true wrap dress, but it was so beautiful, and flattering. It was sort of hard for me to determine where the waist should be on me, and I cinched it up a bit so it didn’t hit me at mid-thigh, but the top is INSANELY flattering. I tried on the size 2, but might want to size up.
James Perse long sleeve sweatshirt
So good. So soft, and I love the longer sleeves. I tried on the size 3, which fit me like the model, slightly slouchy, but not too oversized. Just right.
James Perse shell vintage fleece dress
SO GOOD!!!! The curved hem is really flattering, if just a teeny bit short on me in the size 2. The sleeves are really great, and the fleece is incredibly soft. Different than the heavier 3/4 sleeve sweatshirt dress, at least my older version, though. Better, I think.
James Perse striped terry cardigan
I might break my “no stripes” rule for this, because after trying it on, I’m obsessed with it. It comes to my knees in the size 2, but the cut is slim enough that it doesn’t overwhelm me, even being so long. I can see myself wearing this with everything – even dresses – in the Spring and Fall. And the stripes are subtle…
Anyway, like I said, I didn’t leave with anything, and I don’t have plans to buy anything anytime soon, but I do know I’d like a “nicer” dress (like the wrap one above) and a long cardigan for Spring, so those two things might be my first purchases. To be honest, I’m sort of itching to buy something new, anything!, since it’s been a while (for me), but it’s also not that hard to resist, given that I’m happy with my wardrobe right now. For this weather, anyway. The warm weekend got me thinking about new stuff though…doesn’t it always??
See anything you love at James Perse for spring??
Wow. That wrap dress looks wonderful for spring. And we’ve got a store in SF, so I could even try it on!
it’s really beautiful, lisa! fits wonderfully…
i love the JP store in san francisco – of course i went when i was there 🙂
How do you think that long cardigan would work when paired with a JP body con dress? I have a black and grey one, both with ruching beginning at the waist. I have had them for a while but usually wore them only to certain events, as they are pretty fitted and sexy {also, I have a big bust so that defaults everything to sexy unfortunately}. I have been trying to integrate them into everyday life, i.e. lunch and shopping on Saturday, etc. What do you think?
i think it would look great! i honestly think the only way i’d be able to carry that off would be if i was wearing shoes with mid-to-high heels though, since i have short, thick legs. but in general, i think it would be wonderful over one of the body-con dresses; i’d wear it with my t-shirt dress and no6 clogs i think…
good choices…I love the faux wrap dress and long sweater you picked. I’m going to go to the JP store this month and try these on!
oh! if you wait until i get back, i’ll go with you 🙂
i’d love to see them on you. that dress would be AMAZING for you…
I think we know YOU wear JP the best! Yes, it’s a date. I will wait.
Yay!
Love the wrap dress in gray .. not sure I could do the rather straight skirt bottom though .. hippy gal that I am.
Monica.
I really wish we had a James Perse store here. I love all these looks.
oooh I think the wrap dress is the winner for you. I was visiting the Eileen Fisher Factory store and still cannot go for long cardigans, tunic etc: I do not see it on me running around with longs things flapping around my body 😉
haha! i love a long drapey cardigan – problem is that they sometimes don’t work on me, they have to be slim cut and NOT oversized to really work…
if i can, you can !! 🙂
I’m obsessed with the striped terry cardigan, too! As you said, it’s slim cut, and that will work well. I might order it as a birthday present to myself. I have a “no stripes” rule, too, but these stripes look quite subtle.
BTW, I received my two JP gauze dresses (in white and quarry) and I love them! I kind of regret ordering duplicates since I’m trying to break the habit, but the colors are different enough that I think I’ll wear both. Wish we had a JP store nearby!
I love that wrap dress look. But that long cardigan is my favorite!
they are subtle – the cardigan mostly looks grey IMO. anyway, it’s a very nice stripe for spring/summer – bright 🙂
i bet you’ll wear both dresses a ton – i thought a lot about getting the quarry one too; it’s such a nice color…
Hi Grechen, I stumbled upon your blog while searching for fashion bloggers over 30. I am so thrilled to discover this place. I quite liked your style which is simple and classy. Love your sweater dress, the silhouette really suits you.
thank you!!
I bought those Vince shoes from Azalea. I already have them in black so I was really looking forward to my purchase. I have to say I am really disappointed with the Azalea boutique. When my shoes arrived in the mail, they sent me a display model (I’m a size 6) and the bottom of the shoe was filthy. I called the customer service line about 2 weeks ago, left a message, and no one has called me back. On top of that, I just checked my bank statement and they charged me twice for the shoes. I just had to file a dispute with my bank.
Overall, I doubt I’ll order anything from them again.
