James Perse Raglan Dolman dress (I’m wearing size 1) | on sale for $99 at JP – Free Shipping w/GRCHNSUMMER16
Since a lot of you were asking about the James Perse raglan dolman dress I snapped some pictures for you last night (I was actually wearing it…). You’ll see the dress is not loose on me at all, especially behind, but I tried on the size 2 before I ordered the size 1 and didn’t like the fit overall on me; it was too big at the waist and neckline. I mostly wear it at home and take it for lounging around when I travel because it’s more than suitable for wearing in public as well. The pockets hit me around the hip area and tend to flare out only a teeny bit, they don’t bother me much.
Size 1 is a size down from my “normal” James Perse size, so if you want it to fit like it fits me, take your size down, but if you want it to be more loose and drapey (similar to the model), then I think taking your “true” size would be better. I preferred the smaller size on me. I also had it hemmed a bit so it would show a bit of my ankle.
Ulla Johnson Nadia overalls (size 6) | original post
Also. I ordered the black Ulla Johnson Nadia overalls from Shopbop last week and have decided to keep those instead of this “cornflower” pair (size 6). I have not worn these, except to try on, and will sell them for exactly $311 (I’ll pay shipping) to anyone who’s interested – no returns though!! They are still available for pre-order at Barney’s, but seem to be sold out in size 6 everywhere else. (oops – here they are in stock at Oroboro!)
A size note: I’m wearing a size 6 and you’ll see they’re not “oversized” on me at all, they just fit. The black pair especially was a little tough to get on at my hips, but as I wear them they’ll stretch (they’re 100% cotton), so I don’t want them too big to begin with. If you have slimmer legs, the leg will be more wide on you than they on me. I have them rolled up quite a bit, but they’re not overly long (I think the inseam is 27-28″). I like them best pulled down and slouchy.
If you’re interested in these, please email me and I’ll add them on SLOWRE and send you a link so you can check out via paypal or credit card. They’re only available today, since I’ll have to send them back tomorrow to get my money back from Ulla Johnson within the returns/exchanges window 🙂
Let me know if you have any questions!!
Very helpful pics regarding the fit of the JP dress. I already ordered mine in a 0, so hopefully it won’t be too tight around my hips/thighs. Does the dress shrink? Those overalls look adorable on you!
no, the dress didn’t shrink at all….
I love the fit of both of these! But man, how have I never heard of Oroboro before?! I just got sucked into their sale section and it’s amazing. So thanks for the link 🙂
I just got my Raglan Dolman dress and it’s beautiful but I think it’s defective. The pocket is a kangaroo style pocket in the BACK, WTF??!! I’m chatting with a stylist now. The site doesn’t mention this and I think it must be a mistake…
Did you put it on correctly? Sounds weird, but it’s not attached so if you step through it and it’s towards the back the pocket will be in the back…
Well, the V was in the front… The stylist told me to send photos. Seems awfully bizarre since they describe the dress as having on-seam pockets not one continuous pocket tube across the rump of the dress! I just emailed them… The dress is AMAZING so I hope it’s just a bizarre mistake and can be resolved.
I meant in my comment when you pull it over your head, make sure that you don’t also put your head through the pocket…that’s the problem. Of course your dress could be defective…but I remember when I tried it on the first time I was a little confused by the pocket.
Oh interesting, I’ll check that out thanks!
You were right! Crisis averted…
Yay!! Do you like the dress??
LOVE this dress!
“Everything I learned about fashion I learned from Grechen”
I received my JP Raglan sleeve dress yesterday, and I love it! I changed into it last night to hang around and watch TV and am wearing it this morning before I dress for the day. The fabric is soft and oh so comfy. Here’s some feedback that may be helpful to anyone considering this dress: After consulting about sizes with you, Grechen, the JP online chat, and my own thoughts, I decided on the size 0. However, i would have preferred the size 1 mostly because of the length. I am regularly a size 4, XS for my 5’5″, 114 lb body. I always buy a size 1 in JP, but this dress looked a bit voluminous so I sized down. The bodice fits me perfectly, but the pockets really do pouf out too much on my saddlebag thighs. (Maybe I’ll take them out.) Luckily, I often wear some kind of sweater or topper due to our fluctuating climate here in the San Francisco Bay area, so my thighs are covered. I have no problem getting a sweater to fit over the raglan sleeve. My biggest issue is with the length…the hem falls about 2-3″ about my ankles. An odd length and I found my ankles get cold. Other than that, it is a great dress and one I will wear constantly. I’ even contemplating getting a second one in size 1.
I decided to go with a size 2 and I like the looser fit. I do think the pocket design is strange but overall love the dress, I wore it to work today!
Grechen, I purchased this based on your recommendation and it arrived today. How amazingly comfortable! I got it in size 1, and it fits me very similarly to you. The sleeves don’t feel all that ‘dolman’ and the pockets are interesting. It manages to be super flattering and even slimming, and the material is incredibly soft. I also took a big risk on the K. Jacques sandals in ink but I’m glad I did. They look great and high-quality, though one foot is quite a bit tighter than the other! I hope the leather relaxes a bit… I keep measuring and I may have discovered that one of my feet is just slightly wider than the other 🙂
