So. I spent the entire weekend either in my closet or shopping for the ONE THING I identified as missing from my wardrobe (more on that later). Also, I cleaned out my beauty product stash and completely re-thought my makeup/skincare routine. But more on that later too. Back to my closet…
I learned a few things.
First, do not try to clean out your closet when you’re hungry.
Second, do not try to clean out your closet when you’ve eaten too much ravioli.
Third, I have a lot of things that I don’t REALLY love.
Fourth, I have a lot of things that I really love, but that aren’t that flattering on me.
Fifth, I have a LOT OF JAMES PERSE.
By now, I’ve pretty much taken everything out of my closet and either put it in bags for Goodwill, boxes for my sister, or in the closet in the spare bedroom to “think about.” Honestly, the most important thing I discovered while doing this is that I have a pretty good grasp on my aesthetic, and it is James Perse. I make jokes about this all the time, and yet whenever JP launches a new collection, I want everything, and I know that the looks they put together are EXACTLY what I want to live in.
I think I try to suppress that to a certain extent, because maybe I don’t want to be in that box. But I AM IN THAT BOX. And there’s nothing wrong with being in that box, especially when it’s filled with James Perse. I mean, really. There are worse boxes to be in.
I’ve always thought I had a bit more edge than James Perse, or I was more New York than California, but I’m not. So what?
Going forward, I’m taking all of this James Perse and putting it back in to my closet with a few other things, like my Frame jeans, my Eileen Fisher harem pants, and a few Splendid dresses & cardigans, denim jackets, and that’s it. I can live in this wardrobe and be very happy.
Now. The giveaway. I made an inventory of all the things going back into my closet, and a list of all my James Perse pieces. Instead of publishing it now, I thought I’d make a game out of it and see if you guys can guess how many individual James Perse items I have in my closet. Whoever gets closest to that number without going over wins my FAVORITE JAMES PERSE PIECE EVER – the casual tee in white. (new, and in your size, of course!).
Leave a comment with your number, and I’ll publish my list and announce the winner on Friday (US readers only please, sorry!). If there are multiple “closest” guesses I’ll use random.org to select the winner. Oh, and the picture may or may not reflect all or some of my James Perse. I’m not going to make it that easy on you 😉
Go!!
(yes, that’s my new travel bag at the end of the rack – more on that later too!)
52!!!
yes – i have seen quite a bit there, but i prefer to buy at last call or saks off fifth when they have coupons – the prices seem to be better…
oh! i would love to know your number!!
yeah, i was pretty nervous to actually put a number to it all, but it was no big deal. i do wonder how it compares to other JP fanatics numbers though (are there any other?? 😉 ) – guess we’ll find out on Friday!!
I’m guessing 67 pieces:)
I’m going to go with 38.
Might be high….77?
I’ll guess maybe 20 perhaps.
Hmmmmm . . .48.

I need a new white tee so I’m going to take a gamble. Considering the fact that you said you have A LOT of James Perse and I know you have a mound of white tees, I’m going to guesstimate that you have:
56
53 items
54 I think
I know you don’t own EVERYTHING that JP ever made, & you’ve had a few closet clean outs, but you can’t have gotten rid of many of your JP items. 😉 So I’m guessing…..
43 !
