(lululemon run: pace setter skirt, size 10 tall)
What I Bought
I bought quite a few things this week, and spent most of my “allowance” on my hair! But it needed to be done, and it was worth it. I’m learning that I really don’t need much at all, really. Especially all the food and “little” extra things I was buying at Trader Joe’s, Sephora, Target, Whole Foods…which made my discretionary money disappear…
I ordered the Charlotte Stone sandals from Shopbop with store credit, the James Perse exclusive Birkenstocks from James Perse (I HAD to), replenished my LUSH deodorant, and used the credit back from my SoLow leggings to buy the Lululemon running skirt above.
What I got rid of
Nothing this week. But I am going to go through my closet for an inventory of “what’s left” this weekend, and will probably identify quite a few more things to get rid of. Especially shoes/sandals.
What I did
I’m taking a break from Pure Barre while I’m in transition to a new studio. The studio in Allen is opening up in mid-August, and since it’s 5 minutes from my house instead of 20 (and no tolls to get there!), I can save quite a bit of money every month moving to that studio. And my contract ran out at Plano so it would have cost more to buy a monthly class pass. So, I decided it would be prudent for me to take some time off. And it’s interesting, actually, that now that I’m doing a lot more cardio/high impact exercise, I am losing more fat around my hips and on my legs. I sort of knew I should be doing other exercise besides just Pure Barre, but I didn’t DO it. Now that I am, I’m looking forward to continuing to run 3.5 miles 3-4 times a week in addition to Pure Barre 4-5 times a week.
I have a goal to lose 20 pounds by my 42nd birthday on November 2nd and complete my 500th Pure Barre class by 12/31. No problem 😉
I also started doing this plank workout to make up for not doing Pure Barre. It’s hard. But effective!!
What I read
Yay for art teacher chic!! I have no problem embracing this “trend”…
Loved this throwback post from Courtney on dressing with less – especially this:
3. No one cares what you are wearing.
You think way more about what you wear than anyone else. People may comment on what you wear, but usually those comments are an effort to connect with you in some way.
Whoa. This is powerful, and something I need to remind myself of. I know I sometimes dress much more for where and who I’m going to be around instead of for myself. Which needs to change. Stat.
Haha..I’m not sure I’m ready to embrace MEN wearing leggings as pants. But it looks like it might be a thing.
What I ate
Was so boring and healthy this week! I’m looking forward to a little bit of indulgence this weekend. Perhaps Chuy’s (our guilty pleasure) or a new little German/Austrian place we went last week with friends…
What are your plans this weekend? Hope you had a great week!!! Don’t forget about the James Perse sale. It ends tomorrow!
Yay! I’m all for Art Teacher Chic!
I’m not going to say anything about the Birkies, because, I know I would do the same thing. If you can do it and stick to your budget, I say go for it.
I’ve always read that the plank is one of the best overall workouts a person can do. As for my week, I tried to make up for not doing my P.T. exercises by doing too many in one day, and I overdid it….now I’m hurting again. My 16-yr old daughter said, “Mom! If you missed two weeks worth of medicine, you wouldn’t take it all on one day to catch up, would you?” Damn those mature teenagers!
That skirt is adorable. Looks like something that would be cute and comfortable to work at home in.
Thank you again for letting us peek in on your journey. Sharing your ups and downs is more helpful than you may know. 🙂
haha! she is SO SMART!!!!
The budget. well, that’s turning interesting, isn’t it? 🙂 since i didn’t have the pure barre expense this week, i used that to buy the birkenstocks, but i’m also looking at them as in “investment” in a way. i’ll try to explain that more later, but i am trying to balance my “work” (this blog) with not shopping as much. the way i’m doing that now, is identifying things I want/need that I can also earn a “return” on by featuring them here and writing about them (the JP birks for example). If i determine that i can earn back a certain multiple, then it’s worth making the business investment up front. obviously i will have to work on perfecting it, and not let it get out of control, or making that a justification for buying something i don’t need, but i think this will be a good way for me to feature things of interest to you guys while still sticking to my personal budget…
thank you for your comment amy, and i’m so glad i can help in some way. i know that just sharing my experiences, writing about them, helps me immensely 🙂
Not having a business brain, I’ll just take your word for it! ????
Sounds like a good path you are on…
I love my run skirts….would love to hear a review of your new one, I love the print.
I wear Lole and runningskirts.com and my favourite is icebreaker merino wool…yes merino wool–it is fabulous for summer too because it wicks so well and is so breathable. Love the skapri as well–don’t like the word. LOL
