Isn’t this nice. I did wonder why there weren’t more “in-season” items on sale at James Perse this time, and now there are; they seem to have added quite a few pieces over night.
James Perse hooded fleece blazer | $149
James Perse fleece bomber jacket | $179 (seen here on me, also here, size 2)
James Perse stretch twill field pants | $99 (outfit/review here, size 2)
James Perse dolman sleeve raglan dress | $129
Thoughts on each piece:
I bought the hooded fleece blazer, in black, size 3, early on, thinking it would be my blazer/jacket for the season. I had it for about a week, and every time I put it on to wear it, I took it off again, so I ended up taking it back. I loved it, in theory, but on me, with my wider hips, and having to size up to a 3, it didn’t work like I wanted it to. The sleeves were too long, and although I loved the neckline the hood created, it was just a bit too big on me up top. But even the size 3 was snug at my hips. If you’re not hippy, and have more of a straight body type, I HIGHLY recommend this jacket, especially at this price. It’s long enough to wear with leggings if you’re so inclined, and nice and thick, so it’s a great mid-weight jacket for moderate temperatures. I really wish it had worked for me…
I’ve had the stretch twill pants for a while, also, and really love them. I do wish they were shorter on me, but that’s pretty impossible with my inseam (26.5 inches). They do also stretch out with wear, although not as much as some of my other JP pants. Definitely take your true size, and if you’re more of a straight body type, or don’t have thick legs, like I do, it might even be worth sizing down. Although unless you already have experience with JP pants, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend buying these since they’re final sale. They fit sort of like a slim, but slightly slouchy pant, depending on the size you get. I wanted them to be more slim than slouchy.
I tried on the raglan sleeve dress recently in the store, and I wanted to like it, I really did, but it fit very strangely on me. Just too big up top – everywhere really – (I can’t remember what size I tried on!!) and the dolman/raglan sleeves aren’t the most flattering on my pear-shape.
The bomber jacket was a gift from my dad and step-mom for my birthday in November, and I cannot recommend it enough. It’s a great weight – not too warm, but warm enough – and really comfortable to wear. If you love a cropped, bomber-type jacket, get this one, you won’t be sorry. I took my true size, which is perfect, I think. If I tried to wear it zipped up, it wouldn’t fit me like it does the model, since I have hips, but I never zip it up…
I’m going to refrain from mentioning that the cashmere leggings are on sale, to save you (Christina) from temptation. Oh…see what I did there?? I did try them on, but I can’t remember what size, because I tried to block them from my mind immediately. They’re good.
Don’t forget to use code GRCHNNEWYR15 for free shipping – and I would be remiss if I didn’t remind you to check the men’s sale for your significant other, brother, or father; my dad LOVES his JP corduroy pants (which are on sale now). Also, since free shipping doesn’t come around EVER, check out the new arrivals – there are some great things. Ahem, knit twill parka? Best ever…
Any questions? comments? Have you received your sale orders yet?
I BOUGHT THE LEGGINGS.
ack!!!!!
SO JEALOUS.

Now if everyone would please buy all the things I have to list on eBay to compensate, I would greatly appreciate it. LOL.
haha!! here’s hoping…
i would totally get those if i could.
I have always loved those twill pants and finally I can afford them on sale. Could you advise me the size? Usually I am a 28/29 in jeans (5’7″, 136lb) Should I go for a 2 or 3? Thank you so much!
i am about 150 pounds and almost 5’4″ (on a good day!) – size 29 in jeans and have a 2 in the pants. i think you could absolutely do a size 2 –
Thank you so much G!
Hi Grechen, I have both the military fleece coat and hooded blazer (both black size 1) in my cart. What do you think about the sizing on those? I’m 5’7″ size 4/6, 28″ jeans. I think you mentioned the fleece coat once on your blog, I’ll have to go search for it. Cute in person? I live in LA so I don’t need any heavy duty winter gear. Thanks in advance!
a friend of mine tried on the military fleece coat when we were in san francisco and i think she’s about your size…i don’t know what size she tried on though – i would imagine a 1 would fit you nicely. if i were going to get it, i’d go with a 2, and you’re smaller than i am. so…
the hooded blazer i mentioned i sized up because of my hips, but wasn’t happy overall with the look of it because of that. if you’re not hippy at all, and you have more of a “straight” or at least “uniform” body type (not a big difference between top & bottom), i’d go with a 1, if not, size up one size i think.
hope that helps š
Ok after virtuously not ordering anything yesterday I broke down and ordered the Yosemite trench in Deep. I had the hooded blazer in my cart but it sold out in size 3 while I debated. I could have gotten the 2 bc I’m 5’7 130 but I like JP on the top part a little oversized.
In reality since I just bought that duplicate black fleece blazer I had no business buying the hooded one:) I could throw a black hoodie underneath it and that would work just as well. So yay for me, I said NO!
I was a little concerned anyway about the hips on that one after you mentioned it and I looked closer at the pic. On seam pockets aren’t the greatest IMO. I use pockets and don’t like them bagging out so the regular fleece blazer patch pockets work better for me. The jacket lays flat that way. I am slim hipped but I still don’t like anything that adds width. The open hoodie jacket from last season comes to mind. Horrendous fit. Ended right at hips and was so wide. They hid it pretty well in the pics:( That was a Nordstrom return thankfully. Thanks for the heads up and the free shipping code!!!!
yes!! the pockets on the hooded blazer…i forgot about those, which is strange, because i think they were what made the hips not fit “right” on me. if i put my hands in the pockets and kind of pulled them down a little bit, i loved the look. but yeah, not practical…
you have the military fleece jacket, right? D had a question about it above, she seems about your height/size and i recommended a 1, now i’m not so sure, since you mentioned that you’d take a 2 in the blazer…what do you think?
Gretchen, you’re the best. My sweatshirt dress arrived today and it’s just perfect. Shorter than I expected but that is fine, I like wearing dresses over skinny jeans anyway. I know I’m going to wear it forever. And the fit is also perfect–a bit snug around the hips especially with pants but it’s still good. A 2 would have been okay as well but I’m happy with the 1 because it fits so well on top.
And I just placed an order for the hooded jacket! This one I got in a 2 because I want a bit more room for layers.
Thank you!
yay!! so glad š
the sweatshirt dress does give a little bit too, so it won’t be so snug after wearing it for a while…that’s what i love about it though, it doesn’t stretch out too much that it becomes completely shapeless.
i’m totally eyeing the hooded blazer, but am struggling with what size to get. i’m 5’5″, about 105lbs, usually i wear xs, but with jackets, i feel like i want it to be not SO fitted, especially the sleeves. so maybe the size one? i know you’ve tried this on, and from your description, seems like you also had to size up from your regular size?
such a good price!
i would go with a size 1 if i were you – especially if you want to layer it, and not be really snug in the arms.
No I don’t have the military fleece although I was sorely tempted. I’m trying to stick to no more than 5 items in each category and already have enough of that type jacket. I always order a 3 in tops bc I prefer a looser fit. Weirdly I wear a 1 in pant bottoms and a 2 in the skirts or dresses. . I promise I’m not a top heavy person but that’s the way JP fits me. I feel like Jp is very forgiving that way.
The Deep navy Yosemite trench just arrived (next day service wow!) I’m sort of shocked that it’s original price was $350! It’s a very lightweight windbreaker trench coat with nothing to specify it as performance material. The cut is awesome I will say but it’s very wrinkled so need to figure out how to deal with those. I’ll probably do a chat with the JP people. I think I can make it work….it’s pretty cool in an understated way.
I’m not sure this was a wise purchase bc of the lightweight nature of it but I am determined to make it work since it is final sale. I’m still sitting on the size 2 black fleece maxi skirt from last time as will as two pairs of the clean chinos. Multiples haha.
