**the giveaway is closed! congratulations to commenter Meagan (as chosen via random.org)**
In case you haven’t heard, Valentine’s day is coming up π and in case you haven’t noticed, I haven’t posted any gift ideas, or gift guides, or talked about it at all. It’s not that I don’t love Valentine’s Day, it’s more a reflection of my distaste for made-up “Hallmark” holidays and the expectations that come with them. But I love love, and I love you, dear reader! So as a simple gesture of my appreciation, London Calling Boutique has offered up this Alex & Chloe “love is bleeding” necklace + a $25 gc to the boutique to one lucky reader. And the contest will run through Monday, February 8 so the winner will have the necklace just in time for Valentine’s Day!
All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below telling me something you love, why you love/don’t love Valentine’s day, what you love most about yourself…basically anything having to do with love will do π
For a bonus entry, post this on twitter: RT @greedygrechen: enter to win an alex & chloe love necklace at Grechen’s Closet, just share your love! http://ow.ly/14lJ0
Incidentally, I’d like to share with you something I’m taking part in this month, Gala Darling’s Radical Self-Love “program.” I’ve long been a fan of Gala’s writing, and the way she reaches out to everyone with such love and generosity of spirit and wisdom, so I’m really looking forward to learning more from her about how to achieve “Radical self love!”
We already had our first homework assignment already (but it’s not too late to start if you’re interested) and it was to first, find a notebook to write in all month and write your “mission statement” for the month in, and next, to identify or find a totem that reminds you of your commitment to yourself whenever you look at it.
I already had the notebook – my sister gave me this set of Moleskine color-a-month notebooks for my birthday last year, and I’ve been dying to use them!
And here’s what I wrote as my mission for the month:
I promise to LOVE: I will love & appreciate myself, in spite of my faults π and fill my heart with love for all those around me
And I’d love for this to be my totem, if I can manage to save up a bit:
I have a “thing” for stingrays and have had random stingray jewelry before, but it was always cheap and simple. I love this ring because it’s a statement piece, and reflects the love I have for the beauty of the stingray & manta ray; which will also remind me to RADICALLY love myself and those around me. In case you didn’t see this earlier this year, I featured this ring and some pictures of the Manta Rays at the Georgia Aquarium over at Green Grechen:
Anyway, I’m sharing this with you because I want you to know how much I appreciate and LOVE you every day – and I think it would be fun if you guys did this too. If you do decide to participate in “Radical Self Love” leave a comment, and you’ll get an extra entry in the giveaway. Maybe this necklace is the perfect totem for you?
Have a wonderful weekend!!
So cute!
I love my dog, he is my Valentine this year π haha jk, but I like the idea of Valentine’s Day because we all need more love in this world, but I have never really had a Valentine yet so for me personally it is just like any other day. But love is great, and I hope that everyone is loved by someone!

I love your blog and I’m happy I discovered it!
I love the sunshine!
Feb 8 is my wedding anniversary! My husband does not like Valentines Day since it’s a made up holiday so we don’t celebrate it. But it is nice having our wedding anniversary near Valentines Day so we have something real to celebrate. One thing that was not nice about having a wedding in close proximity to V Day…flowers for the big day cost double!
I love the feeling of entering a space and being able to feel people’s energy surging so much about me that I get set into a wonderful delirium. The people I have around me are absolutely stunning, and I love learning even if it is just a reminder from anything and everything I interact with.
I understand your stingray “fetish (dare I put it that way),” I have one myself for dolphins, sea turtles, and hummingbirds. Your post inspired me to go back to my radical self love journal and be more detailed about myself. I always feel odd about someone finding my journal and it getting spread about and “ruining” me.
I love my family, my boyfriend and my dog! I love Valentine’s day, but not for the gift-giving. Just for the spend a nice night out with the one you love kind of thing.
I love my best friend Jennie! She is always there for me no matter what and that is the best part of friendship. I don’t really love Valentine’s Day. I think people get such high expectations for this one day, when really, if you love someone you shouldn’t need a holiday to make you express it.
I love my 3 daughters more than life itself! (corny sounding, I know…but TRUE!)
I love that Moleskine color-a-month planner. It feels like I get a new start every month, so it feels less overwhelming than a one year planner. In past years, I always bought a planner and stopped using it by mid-February, but this time I think I’ll actually use it all year. Making an effort to write down what I did each day reminds me that every day is significant, and encourages me to waste less time.
That is a cool stingray ring. I hope you can get it soon! π
I love my kids, my pets including my 2 chickens, my grandma, and my friends ~ π
I love Valentine’s Day! I know it’s sappy…but my husband and I were married on a Valentine’s Saturday. It was a magical wedding!

I love today. I was late to my first class and on the way I noticed that the air was sparkling in the sunlight. No one was around but a few crows and they were silent too. It was the wind blowing snow from the trees. Later I saw a guy I had a date with on Friday. I said it was fun and he agreed.
Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean anything to me because I’m Chinese and the New Year is usually around the same time. (This year it’s on the 14th, Year of the Tiger, rawr!) Also I’ve always been disappointed by how unromantic/stupid most men [read: boys] are. But then again, I’m young, I can only hope it gets better.
I LOVE my life. Spending time daily with the family really brightens my life. I’d LOVE to give this necklace to my eighteen year old daughter. It would go great with this outfit I just bought her.
I love winning new jewelry (ha!)…and my mini Schnauzer, Rigby.
I’m loving this cold weather in Texas because I know soon we’ll be having that 100 degree hot weather for the rest of the year.
What I love about myself is my intelligence! I’ll never be the hottest girl in the room, or the sexiest, but that’s okay! Over time looks fade, but my intelligence will always remain!
