First, a few of my favorite things at slowre right now. I particularly love the Ursa Minor jacket; look at the shape! It’s a heavier denim, so pretty structured, but a great warm layer for spring/summer in the office A/C. The Kordal skirt is coming soon, but you know I can’t resist that Ochre/gold color lately.
The Power of my People shirt is wonderful if you have shorter arms (like me!!) because they actually FIT. It’s beautifully made (in Canada), and really comfortable. I love the color, and it’s super-cozy in brushed cotton. Side note: I received a black linen philosopher shirt from the brand to review for you a couple weeks ago. I’ve not been able to wear it much since receiving it, but will now that it’s warmer, so I’ll hopefully have something up next week! Spoiler – it’s excellent 🙂
Finally, Eenvoud is a sustainable work-wear brand I featured a couple years ago here, and I was pleased to get this piece in recently. This is a lovely shirt (the color isn’t quite as bright as it appears on screen) with a lot of character, and excellent fit.
Wearing/Buying
At the moment I’m wearing what I wore to Pure Barre, but today is warm, and rainy, so I’ll probably wear the aforementioned linen shirt, Rachel Comey jeans, and my Melissa X Baja East beach slides (I always wear my plastic shoes in the rain).
OH, look 🙂
I did place an order from Shopbop yesterday with the code: these linen James Perse pants, this JP cardigan, a white tee (sorry, I can never have enough white tees…), and bra. I’m really fixated on black linen pants, so I hope these work, but the size 2 might be too big. I’m going to be selling the Black Crane linen carpenter pants, BTW, I don’t have time to deal with tight elastic honestly. I wore them only around the house for a while a couple of days, and when I took them off and put something without a constricting waistband on, I knew I had to let them go.
And anyway, the more I thought about it, the more I really do want the black linen florence pants from Elizabeth Suzann. I just want a simple, wider leg, easy linen pant. Something not too fussy. Kind of like I planned in the beginning, huh? That was in my 2018 wardrobe plan wasn’t it LOL. As usual, I take a lot of twists and turns, and make a ton of mistakes before ending up in the right place. At least I usually end up there 🙂
Oh, and also, I ordered THE Ann Demeulemeester platform sandals from The Real Real which arrived yesterday. I may have mentioned that these are pretty much my holy grail “flatform” sandals, and a reader notified me they were there in my size + 20% off, so I just ordered without thinking much about it (they were returnable). I will always advocate trying to suck it up and just buy holy grail items if you can, because if you don’t (if I don’t…), I end up trying to find cheaper substitutes, and they never, ever, absolutely NEVER work out. So at the end of the day I usually end up wasting more money on trying to copy the HG item than I would have spent on the actual HG item.
Anyway, the shoes arrived, and seriously, they looked like they’d never been worn. And they were way less than 50% off retail. They’re beautiful, and everything I wanted in a sandal. But. They were like walking with bricks attached to my feet. The platform is hard and stiff, with absolutely no movement at all, so they were truly difficult to walk in. Now, I’m not new to the platform rodeo, but my platforms are generally made with crepe rubber, or have narrow scores in them to make them for flexible, so you know, you can WALK in them. This is why I am so devoted to Robert Clergerie.
I sent the shoes back immediately so I wouldn’t be tempted to keep them. That would have been crazy.
Ugh. This happens every spring…weather changes, and frustration with said weather changes leads to too much buying and quite a few mistakes. I’m finished now for a while. When I receive my money back from the sandals I’m going to order the ES florence pants and call it a day. Or maybe my Alabama Chanin collab dress will arrive soon and if I choose to send it back I can use the credit for the Florence pants. So frustrated by the wait time on that!! Has anyone received a shipping notification or an item yet?
Reading/Watching
Still nothing very exciting or worth talking about. That makes me sad 🙁
Doing
I’ve been suffering all week from allergies, so I’m really happy to be able to breathe through my nose today. My sister is here this week for work, so we’ve been just hanging out at home, but tonight we may go out for ramen, and tomorrow hit up Eileen Fisher on the way to the airport.
And I’m so mad at my hair right now, I hate it. I’m really just trying to keep growing the longer bangs out so they’re long enough so I can get it cut all one length again, into a short bob. I feel like I look like a boy lately. Which is fine if that’s what you want, but I don’t right now. Hopefully I can make an appointment for a cut next week.
How was your week? Any exciting plans this weekend?
That Kordal skirt is FANTASTIC. How heavy is it when worn? I’m really tempted by the Shopbop sale — the Splendid racerback dress in black is my wear-for-any-occasion dress and I’m seriously considering buying it in the sage and the navy colors. Who am I, buying multiples! I think I’m just wanting the act of getting dressed to be easy, and it just gets even more pronounced in the summer. But if I hadn’t have known about the sale then I probably wouldn’t have sought out purchasing the dress in the first place which begs the question… do I really need it?
the kordal is not that heavy, it’s less heavy than my lauren manoogian skirt and even that’s not too heavy…
omg, that splendid dress!! i loved that dress, and finally had to stop wearing it because it was totally worn out. but yeah, i’m not into buying multiples anymore, although that doesn’t mean i’m not tempted by the idea…after so many tries (buying different colors of the same item) i’ve just learned that i NEVER wear the non-black colors as much as i wear the black LOL
then again…navy is CLOSE to black, and it’s 20% off….
Can’t wait for the review on the philosopher shirt…been eyeing that one for a while now. Did you read that hanky panky is now offering lingerie recycling? Hooray for small steps in the right direction. Oh, and an article that is a week old (I’m slow to get through the deluge of info these days!): https://www.gq.com/story/patagonia-versus-donald-trump
…in case your interested. Have a good weekend.
Sigh — I know! I don’t buy multiples because I never wear the subsequent ones as often as I wear the initial piece (which is, usually, black), but I am very seriously tempted…
I’ll stalk Slowre until that skirt posts! Mustard/Ochre is a color I forgot that I can actually pull off and still feels within my earthtone wheelhouse, I’m glad it’s becoming more available.
Love that Eenvoud button back top but too small for me.
I will be at our Eileen Fisher Store this Sunday for a succulant wreath making class. Should be fun and tempting. I am eying these pants: https://www.eileenfisher.com/organic-linen-delave-pinstripe-cropped-wide-leg-pant-s8qjh-p2524/?&color=1964
Enjoy your sister time!
I have the both the Kordal skirt AND the Eenvoud top in the colours pictured and I can testify they are both great. I get a ton of wear out of the top, less so the skirt only because the waist is slightly large on me (easy fix, but I’ve been lazy) and it really is long, so I only wear it in summer when it won’t drag in slush. Note to new Kordal buyers, the brand runs slightly large in its sizing, relative to other indie brands.
oh nice!! i don’t even know for sure what size that kordal skirt is, there’s no tag! i love how it fits on me though…but yes, it’s quite long.
oh fun!!! i want to do something like that…
i was looking at those pants in black…lmk how you like them. i don’t generally like that kind of waistband though, on pants: flat in the front and cinched elastic in the back.
Love the Ursa Minor jacket. Isn’t it funny when something you think is going to be amazing turns out so the opposite???? That’s why I never buy anything that isn’t returnable– just way too risky! I received my Alabama Chanin shirt and it is amazing! Thick, beautiful cotton. Have a wonderful weekend!
The Elizabeth Suzann Florence pant in black linen is the best pant I own right now. I don’t think you’ll be sorry. It’s comfortable and goes with everything. The legs are wide and swish, but in a nice linen way and not loudly. And it’s cool, comfortable, sturdy (yes! but flowy, if that makes sense), and dressy (if you want it to be), or slouchy … I love them! I expect them to hold up throughout the So Cal summer and into our hellish fall season, when it gets even hotter, if you can imagine that!
I love that red top on you! I’m sort of craving a pop of red in my wardrobe but I don’t really think I’d wear it that much. I bought a red bra to see if that satisfies!
I’m a huge fan of the Florence pants. I have the silk (from a sample sale a couple years ago) and I probably wear them at least once a week.
I have never ever been a fan of jumpsuits but suddenly I’m somewhat enamored by the Mara jumpsuit. I think the only thing stopping me is I can’t decide between linen and silk. I’m leaning toward linen. Any thoughts?
When you find pants that you like, why not just have a tailor copy them in different colors and fabrics? Much simpler and then you can have something unique, not mass-produced.
that’s a great idea – i just don’t think like that normally 🙂
also, first i need to find a pair of pants i like!!!
linen. i love the idea of a silk jumpsuit (my ozma jumpsuit is raw silk), for special occasions, but not sure for “everyday” – but then again, after having the silk florence pants, i see silk as a much more practical, liveable fabric than i used to. also, it’s getting hot. and i just want linen when it’s hot…not silk…
