Wearing/Buying
Kara sent me this bag from their new collection last week and I was so disappointed in myself that I didn’t bring it with me to Florida; if would have been the perfect thing to use while I was there for shopping, going to dinner, etc. (and it takes up NO room at all in a suitcase because it will basically lay flat) You may remember I had several Kara bags when they first launched several years ago, and really enjoyed them, but they never worked out for me long term. This one is a great clutch alternative IMO (I can NEVER manage to use a clutch) for evenings out, or to just throw things into and go. It’s not a very practical bag for me to use everyday since it doesn’t have a closure or shoulder straps, but I’ve been using it frequently to go to Pure Barre, and to dinner with Leo.
I’m taking back the two pairs of pants (boyfriend jeans + raw silk plaid pants) I bought from Eileen Fisher recently. The jeans are just too “meh” for me to keep and as I mentioned yesterday, I really don’t like how jeans with stretch in them wear over time. And the plaid raw silk pants are beautiful, and they fit me well in the size small, but as I tried to work them into my wardrobe, there is very little I already own that work well with them.
Reading/Watching
I read Devotion by Dani Shapiro pretty quickly last week, and really enjoyed it. I’m going to do a “books I’ve read” post next week with some more information/opinions on recent books I’ve read. Now, I’m reading random bits and pieces of books I have on my kindle. Nothing is really drawing me in too much.
I watched Forever on Amazon. It was good, and an interesting story line, but it could have been a whole lot funnier – I wanted it to be funnier. The most entertaining part of the show was Maya Rudolph’s wardrobe; she wore No6 Clogs constantly, and an Ace & Jig dress. She is so cute, and also was recently featured in the article I posted about Rachel Comey.
Doing
Next Friday I’m flying to Atlanta and then driving with my mom to Kentucky for my aunt’s 80’th birthday party. It’s a family reunion of sorts and I’m excited to see family that I don’t get to see very often.
What’s going on with you? Catch me up!! 🙂
Some photos from my weekend in Florida:
One of the pair of Sandhill Cranes that hang out at my dad’s
My step-mom volunteers at Leu Gardens and I love to go walk around and look at plants; it’s one of my very favorite things to do, and it’s always so lush and green in Florida. I also get a nice inside-view of the plants and flowers in the garden from my step-mom. I don’t remember what all of these were, the last one is shampoo ginger I think? There were so many gingers blooming while we were there.
We also went to the Polasek sculpture museum (where my step-mom also volunteers) which is beautiful and 100% worth visiting if you’re in the Orlando area (there’s WAAAAAY more to Orlando than Disney World!). The current exhibit surprised me by how fascinating and beautiful it was.
Happy Friday!!
I’m literally IN LOVE with those trousers – they look SO great on you! I’ve got a pair of “paper bag” trousers in a similar colour which I struggled to make work during the summer, but you’ve inspired me to take them out again and give them a go with darker, heavier weight tops.
Hi Grechen. I had two pairs of the Eileen Fisher boyfriend jeans that I wore all last year, but yes, they “grew” on me throughout the day and I would have to put them in the dryer at night to shrink them back to their normal size. It was really annoying, so I finally donated them. I do love the look of boyfriend jeans, especially when paired with a more structured top.
The Florida pictures are gorgeous and that’s so cool that your dad has cranes hanging out in his yard. 🙂 We have a couple (or some kind of similar bird) in the creek behind our house.
I just watched 93Queen on PBS this week. It’s a documentary about a group of Hasidic women in NYC who form their own emergency medical response service. It’s really inspiring and the main woman is a badass! I’ve watched it several times this week while my husband is traveling because I enjoy seeing how other people live, especially in apartments in NYC.
Have a great weekend!
Have you read this? I found it interesting as it seems so often people just assume “made in Italy” somehow means made more ethically than China etc. Moreover, it just makes me sad….the human need to consume at the expense of others.

That show about the Hasidic women’s EMT Crew looks so interesting! We’ve been watching g Hinterland again, but it’s so damned depressing.
I’d really like to find a TV series that I can get my teeth into but nothing appeals. I’ll often watch the first episode of something that my friends rave about only to feel completely meh about it.
Friends and I were talking about this yesterday. Ten years ago, I would NEVER miss an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. It was on at 8.30pm on a Tuesday, and if on the rare occasion I had another commitment, I’d record it and watch it the next evening. I feel like Netflix etc has taken the excitement of waiting for the next episode away and so TV watching just doesn’t hold the appeal that it used to.
Ugh, the words I’ve typed aren’t living up to the ones inside my head but I’m sure you get the gist 🙂
It was the last day of the season at our skifield yesterday. I’m a bit scared to look at the bottom of my board this morning (there were a lot of rocks poking through!).
Florida has never been on my list of must-visit states but your pics are helping change my mind!
Hope you’ve had a great weekend
93Queen is just one documentary, but it’s really inspiring. We watched Dicte at your recommendation and loved it.
