Wearing/Shopping
Since we were discussing clyde pockets yesterday I was inspired to wear my beloved clyde pants today. This is the first time I’ve worn these since their last wash, so I have the hem unrolled and you can see they’re “fitted,” but in a couple of hours they will have stretched out and I’ll have to roll up the hems a couple times. I prefer them stretched out to this way, thank goodness it doesn’t take very long to get there! I love these pants, and am definitely considering a pair in black also. I know she’s not doing the cotton twill in these anymore, but for what it’s worth, I haven’t noticed any pilling or problems with the fabric at all.
This top…ugh. I bought it a long time ago from La Garconne with a sale on sale coupon code and it was final sale so I couldn’t return it. It might be a bit more “bold” than I’m going for? LOL Today is the first time I’ve actually worn it, so we’ll see how it goes – it might end up at slowre soon.
I ordered the oversized wool blazer from Everlane (size 6 – gray) the moment it launched this week. As with Everlane lately, I don’t have super-high hopes for it fitting like I want it to, but if it’s close and/or can be tailored to fit right, it’ll probably be worth adding it to my wardrobe, just so I can cross that item off my list…
Some codes/sales of note:
Free shipping on orders over $300 at James Perse with code GRECHENNOV17 through 11/30
Mill Mercantile – 20% off with code FINALLYFALL through 11/5 – exclusions apply
Reading/Watching
I finished season 2 of Stranger Things and honestly, I liked season 1 better. Still worth watching, but not nearly as good as the first. I just remember thinking WTF? most of the way through season 1, being on the edge of my seat, and this time, eh…not so much. It just wasn’t as exciting…
I’m reading both Why Buddhism is True (highly recommend!!) and News of the World right now; I usually read both fiction and non-fiction switching between what I’m interested in ATM.
News of the World has been on my list for a while, and it went on sale for $2.99 so I bought it and really enjoy it. It centers around an older male main character who’s transporting a young girl who had been “kidnapped” by Native Americans (takes place right after the civil war in Texas) back to her “family” in San Antonio. The writing is just beautiful, and the content sort of reminds me of Lonesome Dove, which is one of my favorite books of all time. It’s really wonderful, and an engaging read if you’re looking for something to read right now.
Doing
I’m totally feeling a carb/sugar hangover after my birthday yesterday. Or maybe it was the wine? Drink with lunch? I’m a terrible day-drinker LOL, but I had a wonderful 45th birthday 🙂 Today I am feeling sort of “now what?” Or maybe just the calm before the storm. Next weekend I have a pop-up shop for slowre, and then the week after we’re in Denver. The saturday after we get home, my step-son arrives for his Thanksgiving break, and on Monday, my dad and step-mom come to town! I couldn’t be more excited…Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday because it is ONLY about family.
How was your week? Anything good you’ve read/watched/bought/done lately?
oooooooh, lonesome dove ??. how i loved that one – i am always on a quest for something similarly epic, and usually try man booker winners or finalists, although i certainly don’t love very many of them.
i recently ordered an everlane cropped cashmere v-neck sweater. i am trying it out at home today and i love it except the neck is very wide, and unless you are quite broad it will constantly slip off a shoulder. that might just be a deal breaker for me, unfortunately.
also got a pair of imogene and willy denim used on instagram and i really love them! 100% cotton is not my jam, so these are 98/2, but for those who like a wee bit of stretch i highly recommend.
I’m with you on Stranger Things. The narrative pacing wasn’t as gripping and there were a couple episodes where I was just like, what the heck are you doing? I liked Steve’s character development, though.
Me, three. I am accidentally annoying my husband with my complaints as we watch it because it’s so SLOW and nothing is happening. I realized that the title of each episode sums it up perfectly, ha ha. News of the World sounds really interesting, and San Antonio is my hometown. I will recommend that book to my dad because he adores the Lonesome Dove series. Oh, belated happy birthday!
p.s: Watch the Joan Didion documentary. It’s so beautiful!
That’s next!! I keep meaning to reply to your last comment that reminded me about it. I’m excited to watch it.
Yay! It’s really good and her nephew (Griffin Dunne from I Love Dick) interviews her.
Really great week! My daughter is home from college with a friend for fall break and it’s just fun having a lot of life in the house again. I struggle with empty-nesting. 🙁
I am a huge “Stranger Things” fan, plus we just got a Roku streaming stick and I was looking forward to catching up with Season 2, but the girls started binge-watching it ahead of me….all I could hear downstairs were shouts and “OMG! OMG! OMG!” (Not that 19-yr olds are dramatic or anything…)
I had a fun experience: I got to be an extra in a movie that was shooting out here and it was a blast seeing the actors and just being on-set (There is a lot of hurry up and wait, but who cares?!? I got paid for it!). The “bad boy” from Ozark is in it, along with a slew of other actors, well-known and not so much. Follow on Instagram @KingfishMovie.
I actually really love this combo of the striped shirt and clyde pants on you. It looks pretty fresh and modern but then again I’m super partial to stripes.
I just finished Alias Grace and It’s not yet dark on netflix. Both are so good!
