Wearing/Buying
So, here are the Andy Trousers in silk crepe. (see my cotton canvas version here) I did not wear this outfit for very long yesterday, only to work in the office a little bit and test out the shoes around the house and make sure they’ll work for me (they do). Anyway, it’s WAY TOO HOT for real shoes.
I had the trousers hemmed about an inch and am much happier with the length. I have to be honest though, I wonder if these are the right size. I do feel a little like the rise could be longer, when I have the waist pulled up to my natural waist. This, I understand, is why some ladies are buying tall inseams, for a slightly longer rise (it’s an inch longer). I also wonder if they’re a bit big on me in the leg, but that’s an easy fix by getting them tapered in a bit. They’re certainly not big at the waist – I would be afraid that in a small, tall, the waistband would be to small. I just need to live with them a bit I think – I’m overthinking everything lately, and when I initially tried them on after receiving them, I loved them, so I just need to let this moment of dissatisfaction pass…
Randomly, I bought this Matcha from Nordstrom, of all places, because it’s 40% off as part of their Casper pop-in. I’d been wanting to try it, but not at the original price…I also had a $20 note so BONUS 🙂
And OMG THIS Ace & Jig X Schoolhouse lamp is JUST WHAT I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR FOR MY OFFICE!!!!!! But why can’t I spend $300 on a lamp? And no problem on a dress??
Reading/Watching
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed Rules of Civility, which I finished this week. It was so well-written and fun to get lost in; I highly recommend it. I moved on to something completely different – the latest Brandon Sanderson book, Oathbringer (I am first and foremost a fantasy/sci-fi fan!), but it’s been so long since I read the previous books I’m a little lost.
I am also anxiously awaiting the arrival of An Everlasting Meal I ordered used from Half Price Books. I saw it mentioned on Literless and can’t wait to read it. I’ve been trying to sit down and read non-fiction for an hour or so when I’m finished working every day so I’m getting quite a pile of books built up on my table. I really enjoy doing this when I do make time for it; it’s very satisfying and much more rewarding than just turning on Netflix.
Which I definitely still watch, haha, just not until at least 8 PM. This week I started watching Marcella. And whoa. It’s all over the place, and quite disturbing, but well-done, generally. It’s a good diversion for when I need it though. That’s all I want from TV sometimes, distraction from literally EVERYTHING else.
Doing
Nothing special planned for the weekend. I will probably work quite a bit after receiving a HUGE box full of consignment items I’d like to get up next week 🙂
What are you buying, reading, watching and doing lately? Any fun plans for the weekend??
I think the Andy pants look great on you. And, I know it’s too hot right now for those shoes, but they go so well with the rest of your outfit! I’m waiting for a pair of the navy linen version to arrive, along with the new linen Harlow dress in navy (counting down the days, lol).
hi Grechen, when I saw your Oxfords just now I thought they were the Eileen Fisher Eddy ones that she has on her site. I purchased those a few days ago and should be arriving soon. I’ve been thinking of what to wear mine with (they seem pretty versatile). EF has them in the black patent and in a smooth leather, which I got. Other than that, I haven’t really been buying anything clothes-wise. I’ve been buying a lot of linen-y household items and some skin care things. I’m trying the Drunk Elephant baby facial and I think I like it 🙂
i was looking at those EF oxfords but instead wanted to try and buy secondhand 🙂
i’d love to know your thoughts on the EF ones when you get them though – i may want to get the smooth leather version. i’ve just not had good luck with finding EF shoes that fit me very well in the past though; i always end up having to return them…
I love everything about this look on you! And I love the lamp!
Buying nothing, reading Rules of Civility from the library (thank you!), probably watching baseball and/or football.
Oh, I read that! I liked it a lot. I skipped the chapters that weren’t that vegan-friendly, obviously, but I still got a lot out of it. I did a blog post on it here – https://thingsireadorheardbyjesse.blogspot.com/2018/03/an-everlasting-meal-non-fiction.html
Love the platform oxfords! I particularly love them with those pants. I bought these oxfords (https://www.shopittome.com/sale/stuart-weitzman-stuart-weitzman-mrgill-lace-up-oxfords/abvdad8d0ba) last year at Nordstrom Rack and am looking forward to wearing them this fall.
Love the pants on you – the lamp is great and way too expensive for what it is. You could easily make this by buying some great (maybe mudcloth) fabric on Etsy and then purchasing the drum shade and cord – easy peasy!
I really like the pants – they’re flattering – and tbh, I’m not sure a higher rise would do anything other than shorten the torso. Elizabeth Suzann must be doing something right with the tremendous success of her line! So, maybe this design fits the way it’s suppised to? ( aka: “There’s no such thing as perfect!” AND “Don’t over-think it!”) And you got a steal on the oxfords! Love ‘em!
I loved “Marcella” – she’s a wreck, however. But it makes me feel like I’ve got my sh*t together! Lots of twists and turns in this show. Hubby and I decided to tackle “The Americans,” so, goodbye social life! Haha. 😉
I think you have the right size but the issue may be with the inseam. Because of your height, the medium-short may have worked better for you. The medium-regular has a longer rise which I think is what you wanted, but the proportions of the rest of the pant may be off a bit. I have the same problem since I’m 5’8 and my height is at the cusp of the regular and tall. I have the Andy and Clyde Trousers in a small/size 4-regular but the rise is a bit short in me. I also have the Clyde jumpsuit in size 4 but in tall and the rise is fine but “longish” everywhere else, if that makes sense. Like you said, you can always get the hem tapered to make it look less wide and more like true Andys.
I think you’ve put together a great look here!!
You might be happier with your silk Andy’s if you put the taper back at the bottom…other than that, the fit looks spot on to my eye. I should be getting my canvas version in 3 weeks and am hoping I love them as much as my linen ones.
I hope the book inspires you as much as it has inspired me!
I got the EF Eddy Oxfords yesterday and I love ’em! super comfy, no break in period needed, and TTS (I’m a pretty solid size 8 regular in shoes). Plus, surprisingly, they’re very light. I like the platform, lots of cushion and support there. Wearing now with a dress 🙂
