Acne sweatshirt & Eileen Fisher pants
I haven’t done this before, but thought it might be interesting to go back through 2016’s outfits and see which ones I liked the most. Of course, I’m trying to draw conclusions from these: what do they have in common? why did I choose these outfits? what is it about these individual pieces that made them my “favorites?”
Ultimately, each of these outfits has simplicity at the core, and are pretty representative of how I like to play with silhouettes; moving from oversized on top, slim on the bottom, to all oversized, and back and forth. There’s really no cohesion. In that way, I don’t have a defined “uniform,” which is something I’ve discovered about my style in the last year or so. I used to think I did have a specific uniform (i.e. slim skirt, tee, cardigan), but now, my focus is on keeping a strict color palette and making sure that nearly everything I own goes with everything else in some way.
Otherwise, I’m going to just enjoy these outfits, and not try to draw too many conclusions from them. Out of all, I think the last is my favorite – just the simplest James Perse dress & sneakers. Done, and done.
What were your favorite outfits of the year (your own, and/or mine)?
Happy New Year!!!!! See you on the flip side .
Elizabeth Suzann harper linen tunic + 6397 Shorty Jeans + Beek sandals
Elizabeth Suzann Clyde pants + James Perse tee
James Perse ruched skirt + Everlane linen shirt
Eileen Fisher organic linen pants + Eileen Fisher organic linen top
Elizabeth Suzann Marlena midi dress
Oh, fun! The Eileen Fisher outfit is my favorite. Possibly because it is a silhouette I also wear often. On second place I would put the Elizabeth Suzann outfits, because I think you styled both the tunic and the dress beautifully.
Love the Elizabeth Suzann Marlena dress + birkenstocks on you! My kind of summer outfit. My aesthetic tastes are similar to yours, with the exception that I don’t like anything structured or fitted. The only close to the skin items I own are a couple of pairs of jeggings and leggings to wear under dresses and with long oversized sweaters. 95% of my wardrobe whether it be winter or summer clothing is all oversized and loose. I have no body issues so it’s not about hiding anything but all about comfort and the love of how oversized clothing looks on me. I can’t imagine going back to wearing anything even slightly fitted unless there’s a major lifestyle change where more fitted clothes are required. For 2016, my favorite outfits are my 2 ace&jig harper dresses, Ilana Kohn Nico pants with simple t-shirts for the summer, oversized sweaters and low crotch pants for the winter. Have a great new years!
Agree – EF outfit is a standout but all of them are really well up together and look great on you! Can’t wait until we hear your responses to our questions . Happy 2017!
My favs on YOU (they would be on me too) are the JP tucked dress and the Eileen Fisher. I also like the ES clyde pants for the pop of colour. I have three pants of various fabrics (seasons) in that colour, along with two jackets and a cardigan (mixed with black.) They go with everything and I always get compliments on the tops (the bottoms are very plain, but serviceable. ) I have been using it as an accent colour since highschool, to tone down brights and brighten up neutrals.
I knew your fave had to be the James Peres dress! I love that one on you, and for something different, the Eileen Fisher linen outfit. But I’ve also loved your denim and leather jacket looks.
My most frequently worn outfit this year was probably my Paige Jimmy Jimmy Skinny Boyfriend jeans with a striped St. James tee, a cardigan, and my black Nike sneakers or my new faves, the AG “Beau” jeans with my favorite Frank & Eileen white button-up shirt and Sam Edelman black “Petty” ankle booties. Comfort and simplicity are the name of the game.
Hi Grechen-
It’s no accident my comment is after MamaV! Happy New Year all G closet devotees. Since finding this closet I must say that all the positive feedback, humor and really stylish ideas have opened my mind and closet to possibilities and fun and acceptance. Thank you! MOst helpful was Marie Kondo’s Spark Joy book.
One of my faves on you Grechen was the EF linen black/white top and pants. Anything you pair w/ your shorty jeans especially the ES tunic or sweater is ‘so you’. That’s why I picked these because your comfort and confidence shines through.
My most frequently worn for me has been JBrand split hem jeans, my Camper booties, or high-tops, any silk T,or button down; nili lotan, everlane, or EF w jacket or sweater. Since doing the audit Ive been shopping my own closet. Not planning on buying anything else for winter.
Enjoy the warm weather by you, it’s rainy and chilly in NY.
Love, love, the all-EF outfit. Second fave is the ES dress.
