Buying/Wearing
I’m so happy to be wearing all natural fabrics today. Yesterday I wore my Storq leggings and tank with Elizabeth Suzann clyde vest on top, and yes, I was comfortable (no elastic waistband), but there is really nothing better than the flow and feel of linen and cotton when it’s hot. We have been having a bit of a cold snap here in Texas though; it hasn’t been much above 90 degrees for several days. And it’s quite nice in the mornings to sit outside and have my coffee.
Besides my Nordstrom Anniversary sale purchases/returns, and my nursing bra fail from Shopbop, I haven’t bought much (for myself) in a while. (oops, I did buy that Raquel Allegra dress and The Great striped dress a few weeks ago, but honestly, I don’t love either one of them and am thinking of selling them ASAP – I should have just returned them). In my current state of antsy-ness, I have definitely been “shopping” for things, and WANT to buy things, but I’m doing a good job resisting so far. Mostly because I need to consider breast-feeding friendliness for anything I want to wear for the next 6 months to a year (depending on how things go), and I have no idea what my body is going to look like.
Did I mention how antsy I am? Mostly because all I’m doing now is waiting. But also, literally ANYTHING could happen.
I will probably still be able to fit into a lot of the clothes I could wear in my second trimester, like jumpsuits, etc., but not jeans for a while, so I do have plenty of things for afterwards, but you know me, I love clothes, and trying new things, and it’s been really hard not buying for end of summer/fall. And I don’t mind saying I feel a little left out with all the baby gifts, etc., lately. What about meeeee?? (lol, I’m kidding, mostly)
Reading/Watching
I feel so acutely the loss of Poldark haha. I am trying to watch things people have recommended, but not much is very appealing and I haven’t found anything to stick with yet. I watched Big Little Lies, and am watching the Handmaid’s Tale, but mostly now Leo and I just sit and binge Modern Family together because it’s ridiculous and makes us laugh. I just need to be watching tv sometimes to make my mind quiet. Like REALLY QUIET.
I’m going today to get a paper crossword book and maybe another puzzle book of some sort – I don’t like doing those things on my phone I’ve discovered, and I feel like I want to do more with my hands now. I do still have my quilt to quilt/finish, but that is such a daunting task for some reason, I can’t manage to pick it up and start.
Ugh.
Also, via Ecocult and Sportswear International:
But how sustainable are sustainable sneakers really? In the case of Everlane, who advertise with the slogan “Make the world’s most sustainable sneakers,” this seems questionable. The brand itself puts the total emissions per pair at 51.5 kg CO2. A study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) found that an average pair of standard sneakers is responsible for 14.0 kg of CO2 equivalent emissions over its lifetime. Despite less plastic consumption and support for projects that actively seek to reduce the impact of greenhouse gases, Everlane’s Tread Sneaker is still 367.9% worse for the environment than a standard sneaker. Greenwashing sends its greetings.
Not saying I/we told you so or anything…
Doing
We’re going to see the new Quentin Tarantino movie this weekend, and other than that, still just waiting. Turns out I’m not getting the freezer stocked as much as I’d hoped, so if I feel up to it I’ll work on that this weekend. I just have to tackle things first thing in the mornings or they’ll never get done. I get so tired in the afternoons and my sciatica has been acting up, which makes it hard to stand or walk around for very long.
LOL – life is entertaining and surprising, isn’t it??
Have a great weekend!!
Grechen, have you watched Home Fires on PBS? It’s one of my favorite series and there are two seasons. I think it’s on Amazon, or if you have the PBS Passport as a member, it’s there. Amazon cut some scenes for time. Anyway, you might enjoy it. I put it on when I can’t find anything to watch and I want something familiar and relaxing at night.
I hope you have a relaxing and restful time during these next few days/weeks. The waiting is so hard, but I promise it won’t last forever. 🙂
When my husband and I were going through IVF, we binged watched How I Met Your Mother. It was mindless and made us laugh. It’s okay to just laugh at something silly.
Bonus Family. On Netflix.
Waiting is the worst, so you have my sympathy! I am waiting for surgery on my ankle, which is far less dramatic than your wait, and even that is making my antsy.
If you enjoy Poldark then I wonder if you would like Outlander? It’s also based on a series of novels that make for easy but entertaining reading. TV-wise, I also really like Killing Eve.
