Shopping
I didn’t do any shopping this week, except to replace my birthday present from Leo (these Bose headphones) with the in-ear noise cancelling version. I desperately want to be able to wear over the ear headphones again, but now that I wear glasses, I can’t find a pair that doesn’t push the arms into my temple and give me an intense headache. The new ones are wonderful though.
I am going to REI today to use my 20% off member coupon, and to Sephora for a few things using my VIB 20% off discount (VIB20). I honestly don’t buy much at Sephora anymore, preferring Integrity Botanicals, Whole Foods, or The Detox Market for natural/organic beauty brands, but they do have a few things I’m stocking up on:
Koh Gen Do cleansing wipes – I bought these recently because I prefer to take wipes for traveling and they are THE BEST makeup removing wipes I’ve ever tried. Not entirely natural or organic, but they’re good enough for me, especially because they work and feel so luxurious.
Kari Gran lip whips – I use Hurraw lip balms most of the time now, but at home, I like to have these around too; my favorite is the cinnamon “flavor.”
Sephora brand Nail polish remover – Probably so bad, but so good…I just can’t quit this, and appreciate how quickly it removes dark polish.
Deborah Lippmann cuticle remover – I’ve tried all the “knock-offs” of this, but still find this one to be the best cuticle remover out there. I’ve re-purchased several times.
What are you ordering from Sephora? Any good natural recommendations for us?
Oh, and in case you missed it, there are some wonderful new arrivals at SLOWRE: Miranda Bennett!!
Maybe you noticed the foldover leather clutch from Everlane in the photo above? I received it (as a complete surprise) earlier this week in advance of their new Made in Spain leather goods launch and carried it to dinner Tuesday night with my husband. It’s very good, and holds everything I usually carry with me in a larger bag comfortably. It does bulge out a bit when full though. I appreciate that the zipper is more subdued than Cuyana’s and doesn’t have that obnoxious gold zipper pull though.
BUT, I don’t need another leather clutch, so I’d like to pass it on to one of you. I don’t know how yet, actually, I’ll think of a fun giveaway for next week though 🙂
Reading
THIS. over and over again. And just trying to listen, understand and love; judgement serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever…NONE. And I should know – I’m a really prolific judge and also on the receiving end. I want it to end.
I also ordered a few of the books on Goop’s “hard-hitting” non-fiction reading list and added the rest to my wish list. I had already finished Hillbilly Elegy last week and found it very enlightening. Incidentally, J.D. Vance was on NPR Wednesday with his thoughts. I’ll review more as I read them.
And earlier this week I published a follow-up with more of my thoughts on Everlane – please read and add your own if you’re interested, or commented on last week’s Friday post.
I hope you have a great weekend! On Monday we’re flying out to Salt Lake City for my husband’s work trip (I’m tagging along) and I’m ridiculously excited, although I see there is SNOW in the forecast for our last day there…hmm…
Just had to add this too, in case you don’t follow me on Instagram:
I’m not sure she’s actually cold, but when I have the heater on in my office, she loves to lay by it. Maybe not the best idea?? But it always makes me laugh. So yes, it’s finally cooler here, and we don’t have the heat on yet, so my office is chilly. And in the winter months we don’t get ANY SUN on the house at all, so it stays cold inside…
We have a wall heater and any time we turn it on, both the dog and cat immediately make their way over and lay in front of it. There’s something so cute about it!
I’ve heard a lot about Hillbilly Elegy, I’ll try to check out a copy soon.
Grechen, have you looked at these Bowers & Wilkins headphones?

I decided on them after getting fed up with in-ear headphones, which never worked for my small, shallow ear canals. I wear reading glasses, and the B&W P3s work fine with them. The sound is awesome and as a bonus, they’re lightweight and fold to fit into a half-moon-shaped case that’s not too onerous to carry around. Apple stores may have them to check out – that’s where I first saw them, but it was before Apple bought Beats and it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s all they carried now.
Ah, Sephora. There’s one a half-block from my office but I buy so little there these days that i’m no longer a VIB 🙁 But if I were shopping with the discount, I’d stock up on Klorane dry shampoo and maybe pick up a new winter scent. Midnight Oud by Juliette Has a Gun is No. 1 on my wish list.
And now I have a lot more books on my list after clicking that link! But they’ll have to wait. As a journalist, hard-hitting non-fiction is my life, and normally also what I’d choose to read in my spare time, so I’m kind of looking to escape that for a while. I have a cat who’s very ill with congestive heart failure and we can get him to relax by reading to him. We’re enjoying “The Hobbit” right now, which is pure silly escapism. 🙂
Actually the headphones I have are the original P3, not the P3 Series 2. The ones I have are mesh rather than leather. The new ones are probably even more comfortable but also more $$.

An Everlane comment- does any else have the Brixton boots? I bought a pair and love them, but the pull tabs on both boots broke immediately the first time I put them on. I wrote to Everlane and they sent me a new pair (asked me to send the originals back so they could take a look.) First time I put the new pair on the same thing happened. Can’t find any reviews online so I don’t know if this is just me…
A very chic, go anywhere outfit!
Due to extreme life circumstances I haven’t been posting comments to all your great blogs, but I’ve read and appreciated everything you wrote. Thanks much!
Aaaah the Everlane clutch is gorgeous…
Girl! This look is so chic, head to toe!
Enjoy your time in SLC.
thanks andrea!!
Has anyone tried on the Everlane Brixton oxfords? I’m eager to hear a review!
Wow!!! Do you look chic as heck in that outfit or what? (Rhetorical question…YES!!!)
As to the article on “WANT”…a good idea, and one that I am trying my hardest to put into practice after this election…but in the end, one cannot always remain silent and not respond. Don’t we just become a part of the problem then?
